How To Remove PCM ECM ECU SRS Airbag Unit | Powertrain Engine Computer Control Module Honda Accord

In this DIY auto repair video, young mechanic Aiman will demonstrate how to remove PCM (Powertrain Computer Module), also known as ECM (Engine Computer Module) or ECU (Electronic Control Unit) on a 2004 Honda Accord, which is the same for model years 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 DX LX EX 2.4L & 3.0L V6 engine.
At the end of the video, Aiman also show you how to take out the SRS Airbag Unit.
The removal process for both is very simple and only requires minimal tools and wrenches. Installation is the same as removal except for it's in reverse.
The procedures should also be very similar to most late model Honda and Acura such as Civic, Element, CRV, Pilot & Odyssey SUVs and minivans.
We're taking apart this car, and while doing so we would like to show you, and give you ideas on how-to take apart certain parts and components, interior, exterior, underbody and in the engine compartment so it they can assist you in fixing, removing, replacement & installation undertakings.

FYI, if you are replacing the ECM, it needs to be reprogrammed with the vehicle VIN, odometer, and also for the anti-theft feature so that your key works. There is a place online where you can purchase an ECM, send in your ECM and they transfer the data from your unit into the one that you purchased. Since the original data is flashed to the replacement unit, your existing keys will not need to be reprogrammed (either at Dealership or a locksmith.)

SOMETIMES THE RIGHT TOOL IS THE TOOL IN HAND, AT THE SHOP I USE EVERYTHING I HAVE, IN THE BUSH I USE A QUALITY PLIERS AND A TEST LIGHT.

Not sure if the location for 2005 is exactly the same but given that it is Honda it should be within the same proximity, most likely it is in the same place but there is nothing wrong with unscrewing a few screws and taking out a few plastic panels just to be sure.

Honestly I don't know because we don't have a 2010, but logically it would be in the middle of dash, otherwise you might want to check on under the dash on the passenger side. These are the only 2 places the unit would be mounted on. It would not be mounted on the driver side.

I don't think they're the same, PCM is Power Control Module and ECU is Engine Control Unit...I might have used the terms interchangebly

EyeOnAiman they actually are the same just different names the difference is the PCM controls both transnission and engine combined however ECU is the same thing except they put them in cars where the transmission is not controlled by a computer , essentially PCM and ECU serve the same function its either you have a PCM or ECU/ECM you dont have both , www.ecutesting.com/categories/ecu-explained/powertrain-control-module/

Just wondering.....did you disconnect the battery. I'm not a mechanic, but interested....I would assume taking out the computer with the battery still connected could damage the PCM?? Not sure of the answer.....what do you think?

In theory removing the PCM without disconnecting the battery should not cause any harm to the PCM, just like unplugging a TV or othe electronic equipment without turning them off first....
