How to replace 2007 Lexus es350 rear strut
lift and support the rear vehicle with jack stands and remove the tires.
Don't forget to chock the front wheels
I had the customer purchase these complete struts from rock-auto, they're $98 each complete from Monroe. I like them because they provide an additional coil from the stock spring so it gives the Lexus a nicer firm ride in the rear.
This can be done with basic tools, and a breaker bar. it helps to have a second person to help with this job but it can be done alone, it'll just be harder to align everything.

This video saved me the time of removing unnecessary components to get access to the rear strut tower nuts.

I just did mine this weekend on my 2012 (oem Lexus struts plus the Camry Ultra Racing rear sway bar). I mean really, the worst of it was trying to figure out how those rear seat belts are freed by pressing a small screwdriver into the slots on the back sides of those brackets. Everything was generally straight forward nuts and bolts after that. Thanks for the video!

Great video! What led you to believe the rear struts needed to be replaced? Noisy? Leaking? How many miles did you get out of the original set? My 2007 Lexus ES350 started making some noise in the back when I hit the driveway bump. Other than that, I can't feel/hear any problems. But, they could have slowly been wearing out over the years, and I never noticed.

The owner got 100k out of them but they were SUPPPPPPPEEEER BOUNCY and saggy. Other than that no issues. But those are major issues lol. They were like that for a while.

I did my 2004 ES330 exactly the same and I've developed a clunking sound even though it sounded just fine for months. It is as if I needed to also replace the strut mount and forgot to, but the new strut has a new mount already contained in it, so that can't be it. The only other thing it could be if my problem is definitely related to the strut is that the top nuts are coming loose. I can't imagine that happening since I really torqued them down good, but there's no other way to look at them without that pain in the butt rear seat operation. Maybe it's my swaybar bushings coming loose.
@HandsOnDismantler
@HandsOnDismantler Год назад
Possibly the sway bars, doesn’t hurt to check and they’re pretty cheap to replace. If it’s a clunking noise when going over speed bumps at a slow speed then I would also say it’s the strut mounts. That’s another reason I opted for the complete assembly. You just pop it in. But if it was my vehicle I would considered just doing the strut and transferring all els. If that’s what you did, I would try to stand on your door jam of the rear door and try to bounce the car and replicate the issue. Often times clunking sounds are not from the shocks/struts them selves.

Hi, I am new here. I own a 2008 LEXUS ES 350 with 187,000 miles on the clock. I went to the mechanic for an oil change and after checking the car they told me that I my suspension is COMPLETELY worn out, which is true because I can feel it when driving. Now my question is, what parts should I buy? The mechanic mentioned Rock Auto. Should I buy the shocks and the struts? I'm kind of lost. I'm not a car guy. Could you please tell me which suspension kit is good? Where to buy it? Something that's fair when it comes to cost & quality. Thank you
@HandsOnDismantler
@HandsOnDismantler 2 года назад
Wow 187! That’s great! And yes if you have original suspension it should def be changed. Monroe is always a good brand to go to. Inexpensive and good quality. Price check all your local competitors to get a price idea. But honestly if you’re not mechanically inclined you will have trouble with replacing the front struts. It’s a lot more involved and you should expect to have to replace tie rod ends and other suspension parts.

You mention that the suspension new suspension is stiffer and give a better performing ride. Can I ask the brand, I have hate how sloppy the car handles but haven’t been able to find much to her with this car.

Hi James thanks for watching and yes I have worked on a few of these Lexus and I absolutely hate their rear suspension. Its way too soft. These are replacement shocks and springs from Monroe. they're a well known and good brand.

Are these the monroe road matics or the monroe premium quick struts cause monroe makes 2 kinds for this lexus I have same exact lexus a 2008 I did the front monroe roadmatics which are the cheaper monroes I paid 150 bucks each and they both lasted me 2 weeks started makeing noise thr bearing made noise when turning so I warrentied them out and got new ones for free not even 2 weeks later the same exact thing happened again so I ended up geting the kybs the kybs are the oem brand for lexus and toyota these cars come from the factory with kybs so if you want a nice softer ride kyb is the way to go on these they make a quick strut already assembled for the rear but for the fronts they dont you have to buy the strut springs and mounts and you have to assemble the fronts yourself but I will never buy monroe again it was such a rough ride and I had 4 struts in a row go bad on me in the matter of 3 weeks I put kybs on the car they are great never had a problem again with these nice soft ride like the car came brand new from.the factory dont go to the dealership for the kybs tho they will charge you 5 times the amount you can get them.from.rock auto or parts geek for between 110 dollars and 132 dollars if you go to the dealer for the same exact part and brand your guna pay 5 to 700 never go to a dealership to buy parts they are all after market parts in dealership boxes all your paying for is a box with their name on it like bmw uses lemforder and meyle and blistien as oem fcp euro.com has all bmw oem brand parts same as the dealer for 75 percent cheaper the the dealership it's crazy how dealerships over charge so much but anyway I never tried the monroe premium quick strut i only had bad luck with the roadmatics which are the cheaper side of monroe I dont know how the premiums are the premiums may ride better if u went with the good monroes maybe u had better luck I know monroe the oe spectrums I herd alot of good things about but that's just the strut not the springs and mounts the road matics dont use the oe spectrum monroes do u know the difference between the roadmatics and the premium quick strut monroes cause I think the springs and mounts are all the same I think the only difference between them is the actual strut that's used besides that their all the same unless I may be wrong if I am wrong what is the difference between them besides price cause I always wanted to know

@@shyne5637 I need to replace ALL 4 of my shocks and struts and I am leaning towards KYB for my 2008 Lexus ES350, but can't find many out there available for my car, which exact pieces will I need for Front/Rear, etc to have a full assembly and complete for the mechanic to change them? Will really help to get ALL necessary items.

Thank you so much for the video! I ended up buying struts, swaybar links, and brakes for all 4 corners. It's going to be a worth it day job. 186k miles on the original struts, they've been gone for a long time. I imagine the car will feel new! 🙏 By the way, how long did it take you to finish the whole rear setup?

@@HandsOnDismantler I did the front first, ohh my LORD, the swaybar link is a BEAR. I ended up grinding it off because there was no way it was going to come off. I'm thinking the rear will end up being a treat in comparison. Much more working room.

Can u believe Firestone wanted $1100 to replace just my left side strut - said it was a 6 hour job to when I ordered 1 strut from Amazon for $175.00 - took me about 3 hours - and they said the sway bar link MIGHT BREAK when taking it off so might as well replace that too FOR FREAKN $356 .00 --- THOSE PEOPLE ARE INSANE - This is while I’m in Huntsville Alabama at the moment -- Great Video - thanx

Wow that’s pretty steep! Glad you were able to knock this out yourself. Just for future, shocks and struts should always be replaced in pairs. (Ex. Both fronts or both rears) it’s not critical in a dire situation but it should be done that way when you’re able to. 👍🏼

@@HandsOnDismantler haha. I almost didn’t even say anything but I try to make sure they go back and I’m dyslexic. Most auto technicians /mechanics are to tell the truth. So I do this a lot. Just having fun. 😆. Did you even catch it before I mentioned it?? Regardless….. No worries great video. I’m about to do the same vehicle as we speak. Any tips? Also….. I’m doing them because customer had a issue with her one tire running. It’s a 20 inch after market rim. It’s barley rubbing on the strut. I’m guessing this is why because she has no hydraulics in that straight, especially? I was thinking wall bearing or something else could be causing it but I guess I’ll start here with the stress and see what happens. Usually pretty good about figuring out repairs for the most part. I may do a live video when I do it for the fun of it. I’ve got everything prepped ready to go. Just Gotta go start pulling out the seat about how long did it take you to do it all just was wondering? Thanks showing for the video. I gave you a like and a subscribe. 👏 💯👍🏼
@HandsOnDismantler
@HandsOnDismantler Год назад
@@TourettesMobileMechanic as far as any tips, not really, I wasn’t able to get a torque wrench to the top strut mount bolts. That was pretty much about the only thing that bugged me. If their tires are rubbing, you can try and find a strut that allows for more clearance but I’m not sure. I think 20’s on a es350 is a little big. But it also depends on the tire size they choose. Other than that they’re going to be dealing with tire rub which is obviously not good. Honestly it’s a easy job and someone as experienced as your self should have no issues completing it. 🤘🏽👍🏼 let me know how it goes.
