I changed the bearing due to a strange noise in the right front end. Turns out it was just the tire needing rotation but I still decided to share the video for those looking for help.

Thanks for the video. Just did my driver's front bearing this morning on my 2WD. some tips for those who may be reading: As I feared, I couldn't fit my impact behind the hub, but maybe I didn't turn the wheel enough. Anyway, this video gave me confidence that I could do it with a breaker bar. It was easier than I thought. Got the speed sensor clip off with a small needle nose squeezing from the very top. Take the speed sensor clip loose before you remove the caliper and hook it up on the control arm since it will be in the way (yes i made that mistake). The hub took a little work to bust loose since I didn't have a slide hammer or a spindle to push against. You can hammer from behind the hub on the rear side (caliper side) of the control arms, but the other side is blocked by the dust plate. I ended up hammering on a 6" or 9" extension against the back of the hub through the sensor cable hole of the dust plate to get it loosen up. Wire brushed, brake cleaned, and greased the hole where the hub mounts. Greased then reinstalled the hub bolts (17mm socket, torque to 44 ft lbs) and caliper torque member bolts (19mm socket, torque to 136 ft lbs) with a ratchet and then torque wrench. oh and I cleaned the rotor with brake clean too.

I changed my second wheel bearing a couple weeks ago so now they are both new. Sounds like you got it down to a science. Thanks for sharing your feedback!

@@desertdudeoverlandDid the other bearing fail? How are both bearings holding up today? I just ordered a Made in China cheap bearing for my Nismo and I’m praying that it won’t biodegrade right away 😅 A Moog bearing is $400 in Canada and the one I bought was $90

Good work and good video, can i suggest that next time you grease the splines on the axle before attaching the wheel bearing, it just makes it easier the next time to take it out!!!

@@desertdudeoverland so I just did my hub last night however I got unlucky and my hub was seized in the knuckle. What a pain, I ended up knocking out one of the studs and put a pry bar in the hole to apply pressure while wailing on the hub with a hammer.... good times

How to Do some repair and maintenance on your Nissan Frontier? Simple! Get yourself a Nissan Frontier repair manual book from year 2001 to 2019 (yeah 2020 to 2022 are different these are the new generation Frontiers) get some tools and study the book. By investing on repair manual book and the tools will save you thousands and upon thousands of dollars of mechanic rip off repair that you could do it on your own very presicely. And I'm the only one that's maintaining my 3 Frontiers. 2010 Frontier Nismo 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Volant Cold Air Intake, Magnaflow Catback Exhaust. (no longer stock but have Garret Twin Turbocharged and no longer 4WD it was converted to 2WD, lowered and became a drifter and drag truck) my 2nd Truck is 2016 Frontier Pro4X 6 Speed Manual Transmission (Stock height, still using same stock tire hankook dyna pro ATm, but Have Stillen Supercharger Monster Banks Power Exhaust) both of them are 4.0L V6 VQ-40 Engine. And I got 2018 Frontier S king cab 2.5L 4 cyl 5 Speed Manual Transmission and 2WD only. Got Volant Cold Air Intake and Magnaflow exhaust, and hankook dyna pro HPT highway tires. When it comes to wheel bearings and spark plugs and fuel injector cleaning/calibration/Replacement I DON'T FOLLOW the 120,000 to 170,000 miles RULES. I follow and trust my own instinct. I replace mine every 68,000 to 70,000 miles I'm not gonna Wait for the wheels and tires to come off because that's stupid. I'll get mine fix as early as possible to avoid the inconvenience and unnecessary towing.

You definitely know what you’re doing and like your trucks setup for performance. Thanks for sharing, that was a good reaD. What brand motor oil do you use? I thought about doing those mods to my truck but It runs very good in stock form plus I like the stock exhaust note. It’s not too loud either. I also think the hankooks are good tires!

@@desertdudeoverland nothing special man. I'm only using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic oil 5W-30 that's it man, no stupid oil stabilizer, no oil additives. And I'm only using STP Fuel Cleaner (Grey bottle for every oil change) and (Red Bottle STP I use it for every 2 Full tank of Fuel) for all of my Frontiers I got 3 of them 2010 Frontier Nismo (No longer 4WD but converted to 2WD and lowered it and Turbocharged Garret Twin turbocharger and Denso Intercooler, Volant Cold Air Intake and Magnaflow exhaust. its for drag and Drifter Truck, modified engine block I mean I rebored the cylinder bore to the biggest diameter it can safely get and got a oversized piston, and modified camshaft) then my 2nd truck is 2016 Frontier Pro4X (kept it stock height I hate Lifted truck! Lift kits make the truck slow as hell!, But I got Banks Power Exhaust, Volant Cold Air Intake, and Stillen Supercharger and Nismo header, then I added SD Sumo Springs) both of them are 4.0L V6 VQ-40 Nissan/Datsun Engine and both are 6 Speed Manual Transmission. For my 2018 Frontier S king cab (Basic frontier or Featureless Frontier) 2.5L 4 cylinder Engine, only Volant Cold Air Intake and Flow master exhaust and sumo springs that's it. All of them are running fine and great with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic oil

Nice man sounds like a perfect setup. You’re probably able to hit 140mph on the speedometer. I top out at 130 mph with hankook atm tires. I agree lift kits ruin the truck but 99% of RU-vid lifts their trucks. It’s not really necessary to lift one for off-roading.
@twinbee4243

@@desertdudeoverland on my 2010 Frontier Nismo I'm hitting 156mph there it's opened and I got rid of the Speed limiter, take note! Don't go to the Nissan Dealership they will not help you out about that you gotta do it yourself DIY do your research first! So yeah my frontier Nismo is hitting 156mph BUT! you gotta change some parts to be able to handle that Speed, and get some specific tires that are meant for High Speed, yeah my truck is not the fastest or faster there are many more vehicles cars out there that are faster than my frontier, some cars can go 180, some can go 200mph, some can go 250mph. But this vehicle is a truck not meant for High speed I just modified it to be able to run 156mph top speed that it can get.
@desertdudeoverland
@desertdudeoverland 2 года назад
Yeah I imagine 156 can be reached. I can hit 130mph without even trying when I had the stock tires. The truck is a beast man and it will smoke most trucks out there on top speed. I thought about getting street tires but I like being able to go over sharp rocks with off-road tires. I would never go to the dealer they are crooks man. I feel sorry for people right now buying trucks at the dealer they are getting taken

What year is your truck bro? Mileage? I think I'm gonna have to do this one soon too smh pretty easy but I just took all this apart to do the cv boot about a month ago. Argh! Good job replacing your bearings! Cheers 🍻

2016 with 78000 miles. The bearings are probably good for at least 170,000 but I had a strange vibration until I rotated the tires. That’s the problem with heavy duty off-road tires. They are not as smooth at street tires. At least I learned how to do it. I also changed a cv boot on the left side when I caught it in a roll of barbed wire. Not too hard but it takes forever. Cheers and thanks for commenting!

@@desertdudeoverland check your bushings if you're still having vibrations. Ours are gone on all lca and uca. I would imagine almost any rubber bushing by 170k would be bad because ours have been bad since at least 120k. We're at almost 160k now.

Yes left to loosen both sides apparently 😅. I’m currently fighting with the right side axle nut- have a multi tooth 32mm socket but it doesn’t fit properly. I might have to go and buy a deep regular socket! Also, I should’ve loosened the nut before I undid the hub bolts etc so I could put the wheel back on to prevent from moving.
