I tried to check the cabin filter after buying a 2000 Sentra XE, and it didn't have one. My mechanic told me I can install one if I want one. So I got a carbon activated filter to install. After watching your video, now I know how to install the foam strips that came in the box with the filter. Thanks.

@heheheaan Although you can see the filter door from just removing the glove box, the frame covers about one or two inches of the left side of the door. It may be possible to slide the door out without removing the frame, but the official procedure from Nissan is to remove the frame, so we did. Removing the frame made it easier to take the door off and install the new filter without bending it.

@Gzup803 - Your Maxima will be different from the Sentra in this video. The level of difficulty is about the same, and the filter is also behind the glovebox. Your car uses a different filter than the the one shown here - it actually has a pair of filters that slide into the housing together. Our part number is AQ1093C. We will probably shoot a video for your model within the next several weeks - stay tuned.

@cheetahlip - Generally, the media in these types of filters will perform exactly the same in both directions when first installed. The difference between the sides is "capacity" - or the number of particles the filter can catch before it becomes "clogged". You won't damage your car by putting it in the wrong way. The filter will just have a shorter service life.

@cheetahlip Our arrows indicate the direction of airflow, while some other companies arrows indicate the direction of the filter. I'm sure this is the case. We're glad you found our video helpful!

You know I didn’t even know I had a cabin air filter compartment it I had to change my blower motor and resistor and found out it didn’t have a cabin air filter in their. So I bought one and so happy that I at least have one.

thankyou. I have a 2006 sentra I bought in 2007. I never changed the cabin filter , when I remove the housing I notice there was no Filter in the car... Now I have a new filter and my car smell clean with my new air freshner.It was quick and easy installation...

Thanks for the help. This was my first time changing the cabin filter. I threw the foam strips in the recycle bin cause the instructions that came w/ the filter do not mention them. But I watched your video then went back and got them. Also, I was really surprised when i went to take out the old filter and there was no filter there. Ive had my car for about 4-5 years and I dont think there was ever a filter there, which is strange considering all of the the times Ive taken it in for maintenance.

I hope I only need to clean not replace it. Anyway thanks for showing how to, because even the service manual doesn't provide neither the location nor the procedure for it. This should be easy, as it only needs a screwdriver, not various wrenches, no need to jack up the car. :)

Filter arrow goes DOWN. You are right. Sorry. We were having an epic battle on b15u because freaking Nissan genuine filters are the freaking opposite of all other filters so their name will be right side up and the arrow on their filter has nothing to do with airflow. Again. Sorry.

When i went to replace my filter the was a large amount of lent taped to the area above the filter. It does look like Nissan put it there on purpose. Much of it was falling down and clogging up the filter. Is the lent necessary or can i remove it? (2002 nissan sentra GXE)Do your cars even have it at all?

80% of the cars that are newer than 2000, have a cabin filter. The ones that dont, typically have a screen in place to keep debris from going into the AC system and through the vents into the cabin.

Nissan did not start putting cabin filters in the Sentra's until 2000. Your year, 1998, does not come equipped with a cabin filter.

That actually isn't uncommon at all. I bought a 2002 Altima and a 2006 Sentra, both new. The window stickers both had an extra $40 added to the cost of the car for the cabin filter option...and amazingly enough, the 1st time I went to change each of the filters there was never one installed in the car. There are thousands more people out there online who paid for filters they never got. Seems quite the gimmick with Nissan.
