Follow along and learn how to change the fuel filter on your Colorado or Canyon and you'll be done in less than 30 minutes.
Changing your fuel filter will save you gas and is great preventative maintenance. This install was on a 2004 Chevy Colorado 3.5L but similar years and models follow the same steps.

Great video, no pointless intro, straight to the point, easy to follow, and no pointless talking for 5 minutes before you even touch the car. More people should learn from your video, not just how to change a fuel filter, but on how to make videos! Great work!

Great video , no bull just shows the process of how to do it, you should label this under how to make a how to video with out words. Did your truck show symptoms of bad filter, such as sluggish throttle/ no power etc. slow getting up to speed. Thanks,great camera work !!! Seriously........

Video is great dumb question thou I took mine out same way, clips were very difficult to release when they did 2 rubber o rings, a plastic sleeve same diameter as oring plus a collar came out from both ends of orginal filter. When I put replacement on pops right in like you show but leaks like crazy. I tried putting the oring and sleeve on new filter but still leaks, what am I doing wrong?
@jpmacoo
@jpmacoo 5 лет назад
Same thing happened to me last night. This morning I cut the clips off, went to O'Reilly's and picked up two replacement clips. They fit inside the existing tube/fuel line - went in easily using a hair dryer to heat the tube. Clamped them and clicked the filter in. Runs great, no leaks. Don't know how old your filter was. Mine was rusted and rotted pretty bad, and leaking a bit. I know, I shouldn't have waited this long to change it.
@davidscotto1848
@davidscotto1848 5 лет назад
@@jpmacoo I ended up changing fittings as well thou where the fuel line Flex is at 180 degree angle I ended up just cutting that out and splicing using high pressure fuel line rubber style they sell at Advance for about 7:50 or foot I tried replacement line it won't Flex 180° not correctly anyways without getting kinks in it but I got it up and running I had the same issue the fuel filter was entirely rusted out and leaking at the connections

@oxnard8054
@oxnard8054 3 года назад
Hey I have a 2005 chevy colorado 3.5 l 2WD . I have a question . I seen that you pull out the fuel pump fuse and open the gas tank cap. Does it matter if you have the truck turned off and then you proceed with disconnecting the fuse ? Or does it even matter ?
@jonramirez2760
@jonramirez2760 3 года назад
Good question. It does matter, you need to pull the fuse while the truck is on so that the fuel supply gets cut off and the engine stalls.

Why is the 2007 Chevy Colorado's filter in the tank and all of the older model years aren't? The tanks have to be dropped in order to change the filter.

Most likely, if it’s not along the fuel rail then it is inside the gas tank.

@jonramirez2760
@jonramirez2760 4 года назад
Don Juan is probably right, some newer models have it in the fuel tank so you will only be able to replace it when you change out the fuel pump assembly. But maybe take a look under the cab on the driver's side to see if you can spot the fuel filter canister. If it's not there, then it will be inside the fuel tank.

@jonramirez2760
@jonramirez2760 4 года назад
It could be various things but it definitely wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter first. It would also help for you to check the fuel pressure to get an idea if the filter is clogged.

@jonramirez2760
@jonramirez2760 3 года назад
Is the check engine light on? It sounds like it could be a fuel problem. I'd start by checking the fuel pressure to get an idea If the problem is the fuel filter or the fuel pump.

The fuel filter on this truck is located on the driver's side towards the rear. If you look in the area between the cab and the rear wheel you'll find it.

You just need to press the grey tabs on the line. The lines have a tab on the top and bottom, just pinch them as you pull the line away.
