Very informative video except for one major mistake. The crystal mount un a metal ring called Bezel pronounced Beh-zl ( simple Google or dictionary search will CONFIRM this ) You keep calling it a Basil pronounced Bāzel which is a herb or Bazel pronounced Bāzel which is a tool for developing computer software

You got me! I had only READ this word for years and somehow, I started pronouncing it wrong in my head and never questioned it. From now on, I will say it right! Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!

Don’t know if you read these crystal replacement videos, but thank you. Broke the glass on an old pocket watch and now I know what to do besides cry. Thanks again.

I’m really glad it helped you. Replacing the crystal is not too difficult on the open faced watches but a little more challenging on the hunter case watches.

I like how at the end you showed off your bow-tie 219 Accutron. I really like them, but sold off my collection of them as the parts for the 214's became hard to source, and prohibitively expensive. Kept my RR 219 {stainless case N1 date code} though. Good video too.

Elgins are one of my favorites. They made some nice pocket watches! Enjoy!

I enjoyed this video. I have to replace a missing crystal on an Elgin 16s 290 grade hunting pocket watch. I know how to take the bezel measurement across, but I am concerned as to how to figure out what height and thickness I should get. Any suggestions?

so most people use a special pop in tool set to put in new crystals. Can you do a video on installing a crystal in a pop in hunter case bezel??

Very good vid, I like the way you present the subject. What's your feeling about UV glue? Is it just as good as the hypo cement? Thanks.

I haven't used UV glue yet. I have heard good things about it!

I tried UV Bondic ,seems to work good. My Hypo cement must of had a damaged tube, it got hard!

After a while, the old tube I had used had gotten hard also. I had to buy a new tube. I have not tried the UV yet- but may at some point! Thanks for watching!

Good to know thanks. What about Hunter types requesting height? Not sure what the inside center clearance of the crystal measured from the bottom of the outer edge to the inside center means?

Thank you for this question! have not experimented much with Hunter watch crystals - I will add this to my list of research for future videos. I have replaced a couple of Hunter crystals - but only by ordering 2 crystals of the size of the bezel I ordered. American Pocket Watches are usually H7 or H8 in height. I ordered both (rolled the dice) and one fit. I would recommend contacting the person I mentioned above in the "more" section - he would be able to help you on this.

One of the requirements for officially certified railroad grade pocket watches was having a minimum of 21 jewels.
@myhobbiesarenotcheap
@myhobbiesarenotcheap 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching! This 21 jewel absolutely was the last minimum, but it started it out with lower jewel counts. I recommend reviewing the following website link for more specific info on this:railswest.com/time/watchesapproved.html

I was under the impression it had to be press fitted? Maybe this is the easiest way?

Thanks for your feedback! You have excellent eyesight! I will watch more closely in future videos - since it is hard to see with the camera in the way (but I ordered some new equipment to help with that). The good news is the dried glue is easily scraped off by the wooden cuticle tool that I used. Thanks for watching!
