This video is to teach you on how to properly setup your Rode VideoMic Pro to your DSLR. We also discuss how to adjust the manual controls on your cameras to make it work properly with your Rode Videomic Pro.
Features of the Rode Pro Mic (info from manufacturer)
info from: www.rode.com/microphones/video...
Rycote® Lyre® shock mounting onboard
All-new capsule with lower noise and higher sensitivity
Broadcast recording quality condenser microphone
Compact form factor (150mm/6” length)
Ultra lightweight (85g/3oz)
9V battery powered - over 70 hours use (alkaline)
Integrated shock mounting
Integrated foam windscreen
3.5mm stereo mini-jack output (dual mono)
Two step High Pass Filter (flat, 80Hz)
Three position level control (-10dB, 0, +20dB)
Camera shoe mount with 3/8” thread for easy boompole mounting
The RØDE VideoMic Pro is a true shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders as a source of primary and reference audio.
At the heart of the VideoMic Pro is an all-new 1/2" condenser capsule that provides broadcast-quality audio via a 3.5mm minijack connector (outputting the mono signal to both left and right channels) with an incredibly low self-noise of just 14db. A super-cardioid polar pattern ensures that surrounding audio is minimised, and your recording is focused on the subject in front of the camera.
The integrated Rycote® Lyre® based shock mounting system separates the VideoMic Pro capsule and electronics from its mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre® provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap.
Easily accessible on the rear face of the microphone are the power, filter and level controls. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.
Below these controls are the level settings, which attenuate or boost the recorded level as required. The -10dB level attenuation (or PAD) is ideal for recording loud sound sources, such as live music, motorsport, or interviews where the subject is very close to the camera. The +20dB level boost is designed for use with DSLR cameras, allowing the user to reduce the camera's preamp level (or mic-input level), effectively reducing the amount of noise generated by the camera's comparatively low quality audio circuitry.
The microphone uses a standard sized shoe mount for on camera use, and features a 3/8" thread in the base of the mount for easy boom pole mounting.
The VideoMic pro is battery powered, and provides over 70 hours recording from a single 9V battery.
The RØDE VideoMic is designed and made in Australia, and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.

The last part confused me a bit. When you set the int. mic on manual do you adjust the db levels on your ext. mic, depending on the amount of noise? Or do you always set the the db levels on +20 and the hp on 80 herz and only adjust the int. mic levels to te amount of noise? I hope you understand my question :)
@OmarHamati
@OmarHamati 7 лет назад
Sealed in plastic you don't set the mic on manual mode. You must set your camera on manual mode that will allow you to alter the mic settings internally on the camera. When your altering the mic settings on the camera you only want to go up 4-5 notches so the sensitivity level is less. Then keep the mic is attached to the camera on +20 dB

It only goes up to 4-5 bars while yours almost reaches at 12. What the hell is going on with my camera?

Jacky Li make sure it's plugged into the correct port and that the camera is recognizing it. If it's still not working I would suggest trying to upgrade the software or taking back to canon. Last but not least, plug in a pair of headphones (like the apple headphones for example) and see if you could hear yourself talking into the mic to make sure it's working.

KashVlogs do you have it set to manual? If it's set on auto, it may not give you the option. Let me know. I will help you out.

KashVlogs on the top of the camera, set the dial to manual. After, go and check the mic settings.

Why do you need a high pitch filter at 0 Hz??
@OmarHamati
@OmarHamati 7 лет назад
P-O Andersson it all depends on your surroundings. What I recommend you doing is testing the mic out in your home, some place where it's noisy and than maybe just on the streets to get an idea of the different settings and what it sounds like. Try it out and let me know what you think. Omar

Aha! I got the StereoMic Pro now (same settings) and what I didn't understood at first is that the "o" mark is actually the killing switch of the mic all together. So the other two modes are simply "no filter on" and "filter on". Easy peasy. Great microphones...thumbs up. :)
