I'm 70 years old and just bought my first firearm (PDP Compact 4") 2 years ago (I have added 3 more since then and have used your recommendations/videos for several of them!). Still working on a lot to get comfortable and finding the best technique for me and my physical ability (or lack thereof). As for listening to various 'experts'... The gun shop where I bought my first firearm has a resident instructor who has a lot of experience. I have taken a concealed carry course and a basic shooting class with him as the instructor. In both cases he is ADAMANT that you should only be using the middle two fingers on your dominant hand to grip the firearm! He says that your 'pinkie' should not be involved at all in gripping the firearm. As a side 'issue' he is a total Glock shill and spends as much time in the class convincing you how superior Glocks are to any other firearm. Anyway, I realize that my PDP was designed specifically in the grip to use your pinkie in aiding you when using a Red Dot sight. I found the PDP (even a compact version) too big to carry (I'm 5'6" and 220) so I got a Shield Plus. I then got a PPQ M2 22R for inexpensive range time that allows me to work on technique. My most recent purchase was an Extar EP9. Thank you for all of your videos! I have learned a lot and look forward to future videos...

Chris i love your teaching method and emphasis on training and what works for you. Too many instructors still tend to lean very heavily on ONE method and think that is the Gospel. What works for you. Similar to the golf swing it’s what works for you and you can consistently reproduce especially in high stress situations. Learned a lot from you in the past several years and my shooting has improved markedly.

This is a great tutorial. The concepts you are teaching are exactly what come naturally to me when shooting. Sometimes I'll wrap my left index finger around rhe trigger guard sometimes I don't. It really depends on fhe gun. So many instructors are adamant about planted shoulder width stance. That never made sense to me. Seemed more logical to be in a boxer stance incase you have to shuck and jive one way or another, to run or engage in hand to hand. But really its best not to suck at shooting.

Would have been good to have added that get the good grip first, and trigger finger placement lands where it lands. No need to adjust grip to get trigger finger to hit the pad, or any other specific part. Proper grip first, and as long as one can pull trigger straight back from the position it ends up, so be it! Great video, happy I stumbled across your channel!

Chris, THIS is your best video! Yes, if your off / support hand is not tired after a long range session, you are not making it contribute enough. Also, the heel of the hand getting onto the grip? Yes, yes, yes. I spent 28yrs in the Army training soldiers. When I saw the limp wrist I would take them aside and ask them, who is in charge of that pistol, the pistol or YOU, then point out what you said in your video, same info. Anyone who shoots magnum revolvers gets a crash course in taking control of the firearm quickly. Again, excellent video.

No more low and left. Thanks to your videos and many others on this platform. Im still learning. Im trying to learn what i can like, and practice more at the range. By applying what i learn from videos. I have rather large hands. But being new, i have to learn to control the recoil. Which this may seem odd to you experienced shooters. But i save my targets. And bring them home. So i can compare and i can honestly see improvements from day 1 to yesterday. Thanks for the video.

Due to health issues (including LOTS of surgeries,) I hadn't been shooting in nearly 25 years (and had to sell my motorcycle too 😠 ) Something I'm trying to get figured out is how to shoot well without being able to get into a comfortabe shooting stance. I desperately need to get both my knees replaced but I'm not ready for any more surgeries. Standing and walking is just incredibly painful, so it's something I'm trying to find a way to deal with. Trigger slapping and jerking are high on the list also. A lot of people I work with and see on the range are way to stiff in their stance. I’m like you , get more of your rear end into it. I still see a lot of people with their non dominant hand thumb behind the slide. I tell them about slide bite and how much it hurts. Some listen, some get told, the bandages are at the range counter!
