Your story is kind of like my dad’s. When he turned 21, he went to the store to pick out his first pistol after shooting my grandpa’s 1911 for years. He saw the P99 and thought it looked like a sci-fin space gun so that’s what he chose😂 dumb reason to choose a gun without shooting it or know much about it, but it ended up working out for him. We never watched James Bond or knew much about him until those films came out on Netflix.

My dad bought me a ppk when I was 9 or so. I had begged him for a year after N64 007 came out. I remember how shocked I was to the recoil as a kid. Still loved shooting it, but compared to shooting the cobray m11, my young brain couldn't process why that little 380 kicked so hard. It turned me into a walther fan though and right when I was 21 I'd bought a P99AS. Was my favorite besides the 92fs centurion I had. After moving 1,000 miles away and struggling I sold it to a friend. I always begged him to let me get it back but he wouldn't because he loved it too. Then one magic day when I was coming home for Christmas he said if I bought him a g19 he would trade me straight up. Found a deal on a new but old 3rd gen 19 and traded him. Never again will I sell a gun that I bought that I actually like. 😂

My great-uncle was a spy in Germany with the OSS during WW2. I asked him what guns he carried then. His answer surprised me, but made sense - he didn't carry any guns. Great video! I've either had, or have some of these pistols. Years ago I became acquainted with a WW2 vet, between him and his brothers they brought home several guns from Europe. That was more than 20 years ago. A couple of guns I bought from him were a Walther PP with NSDAP markings and the other was a PPK in its original holster. The PP had a broken spring and was nonfunctional. The PPK was in working condition. I traded it for a S&W model 27. Another pistol that should make honorable mention would be the West German Sig P228. Sweet shooting pistol.

Hey Outlaw I went shooting on Memorial Day and I brought my 226 in .40S&W (yeah I know 9mm is better but it was my first gun). I decided to try my had at long range accuracy and shot a full 12 round magazine at a 12x18" piece of paper at 100 yards and got 3 of 12 on paper using the factory iron sights. I bring this up because your long range pistol shooting inspired me to try. Getting those 3 on paper is probably my biggest feat of shooting thus far. EDIT: Okay I know that a .40JHP is going to do more damage than a 9mm JHP. I was talking about in the realm of capacity, ease of shootability, and cost of ammo. No one would argue that a full powered 10mm out of a 2.5" barrel is going to hurt more than a 9mm out of a 2.5" barrel but who wants to carry a 10mm for that purpose? Furthermore, I wasn't trying to start an argument lol. I was trying to thank HO for inspiring me to push myself to a pretty cool feat of pistol marksmanship.
@TransformersHoarder
@TransformersHoarder Месяц назад
9mm better?… who misguided you? 40>9, however I recommend you get a 357 Sig barrel for your P226. With a simple barrel swap you are shooting 357 Sig which have 9mm projectiles but traveling 225-300 fps faster. That’s 357 Magnum type of energy which is on record as being the best one shot stop caliber.

Advancements in ammo tech make the 380 more than 'good enough'. Underwood's loadings of Hornady's XTP and Lehigh Defense's Xtreme Defenders and Penetrators are prime examples.
@JD-tn5lz
@JD-tn5lz Месяц назад
Uh no. I promise you as a long time shooter and a prior LE use-of-force and homicide investigator, ammo tech has NOT improved these past twenty-five years...ammunition offerings have improved, that's it. I'm not saying .380 is bad and I'm not saying more ammunition offerings is bad, but no, there hasn't been anything revolutionary in either the bullets or the chemistry since sometime around the 1950's. Standards have changed and options have multiplied, that's it.
@MeMadeIt
@MeMadeIt Месяц назад
@JD-tn5lz Absolute NONSENSE! Ammo technology has steadily improved and continues to do so. Hornady introduced the XTP about 30yrs ago and has steady improved it's design and performance. Lehigh Defense introduced their solid copper Xtreme Defender and Penetrator bullets less than 10yrs ago. To claim there's been no improvement since the 1950's is nonsense!

@@MeMadeIt Well, you do have some stats. But shit happens. The stats are from where?, a controlled test or out in the wild? Did you know that most FBI agents shot only 60% as well in Actual Gunfights? Vs. their time on the range?
@MeMadeIt
@MeMadeIt Месяц назад
@@Scorched-ww2nf What does a shooter's performance have to do with the technology that goes into the ammo being shot? Does the ammo's performance vary with the skill of the shooter? Is an A-zone hit by a novice less effective than by a pro? The original point is, advancements in ammo technology have improved to the point that even 'marginal' calibers have become effective at their intended purpose. Today's 380 loadings are far superior than they have ever been.
@Scorched-ww2nf
@Scorched-ww2nf Месяц назад
@@MeMadeIt Well, how is the effectiveness measured? In Gunfights or in a controlled test? Not saying the controlled Test is wrong, but How many people can outshoot an FBI agent? If the FBI's data was correct, (Big If, because shit happens in Life.But they do have a vested interest in keeping their agents alive, to do their job and catch the bad guys, Google why the FBI switched to .40 caliber as an indicator of their seriousness on the issue of kieeping their agents alive. Again, not saying the test is wrong but you shouldn't just base your decision on one part of the Data available. You should look at ALL the data. We all want to go home at the end of the day. So for you to discount a Police Investigator who has actually investigated gunfights seems rash.

If you want to go old school, the British Army's Force Research Unit and Military Reaction force carried the Browning Hi Power in Northern Ireland, as well as the Walther PPK. They carried an MP5k in a car and occasionally would have a 1911 instead of a Browning. Their unique carry was in a car. They put the 1911 / hi power under their right thigh when driving so it was very available! Bit too scary for me 🤣. Or it was tucked in their jeans, no holster. They clearly trusted their guns ..... PPK's were worn with suits, hi power for casual gear.

I would LOVE to see you test a Hungarian made PA-63 in 9mm Makarov! They are almost identical to the PPK and they are cheap! Trigger pull on them is a bit much but you can buy spring kits to fix it. Please get a hold of one! Great video!

Cool stuff. It would be interesting to hear what you think of the Makarov, specially compared to the PPK it was inspired of. US Marshall guns would also be interesting to see your opinion of.

Guns of US Marshals and Seals would both be great videos. Maybe highlight all the different weapons used by each branch of the military (I'm not a military guy so don't know if there is much variations in weapons between the Navy, Army, Air Force, etc.).

If I lived reasonably close to you I'd totally hook you up with some loaner 9x18 firearms for a follow up video. Also worth mentioning the Czech VZ61 was definitely a sub machine pistol used by spies during the cold war. But please, if you can get ahold of some of the iron curtain options a part 2 of this video would be super sweet.

I would like to hear your opinion of the Makarov PM. I have one along with all the other (semi-auto) variants of pistols that shoot 9x18mm. That would be the FEG PA63, Radom P-64, CZ-82, Wanad P-83, and SMC918. I have fun with all of them on the range.

The Makarov is cool as hell, and is honestly one of my favorite pistols I own. Its trigger isn't the best, the its weight, balance, and ergonomics feel better than almost anything else I've ever handled, and I have handled a lot of pistols (including 1911s, CZ 75s, a CZ P-07, and a CZ Shadow 2).

Checked into 3rd Redon Jan ‘68 and issued a beautiful Colt 1911 and an M-16 that I’d never seen before. Looked like a children’s all plastic rifle. We trained with M-1s, qualified with M-14s and then surprised us with m-16s. Gotta love the green Machine. 8:50 Semper Fi🇺🇸

I love my PPK in 380. It so fun. Edit: The PPKs are weirdly heavier than they look, but unlike Kimber's compact metal frames, it doesn't have that recoil.
@tonyj7636
@tonyj7636 Месяц назад
Stainless steel gives the mass needed to absorb recoil.
@tdata545
@tdata545 Месяц назад
@@tonyj7636 You'd think that, but the Kimber Evo 9 and Micro 9 I had were also stainless steel frame and barrel. BUT MAN THOSE THINGS KICKED more than my 45LC Judge.
@tonyj7636
@tonyj7636 Месяц назад
@@tdata545 yea, 15.4 for the micro ounces vs 26 ounces of steel in the Makrov isn't really comparable. That's just a momentum equation. The 9 is also MUCH smaller physically giving less grip area which increases its felt recoil.
@tdata545
@tdata545 Месяц назад
@@tonyj7636 I assumed the lack of a good grip on that thing was my issue. What's the Makrov? Micro 9 and Evo 9 are two Kimber compact models. OH, yeah, I guess there's a Markov Micro 9 or something, I don't know, but the two guns I mentioned were Kimbers. I forgot about the other manufacturer that uses that name as well.
@tonyj7636
@tonyj7636 Месяц назад
@@tdata545 sorry I misspelled it, Makarov that was discussed in the video as honorable mention. It is basically the Russian version of that James Bond gun the Walther PPK.
