Thank you for a very detailed video. After being in a car crash, my body's alignment felt off. Sleeping on hard a surface does wonders for my upper body. Now is has been 3 months.
I 'had' the same problem, I can't control my sleeping position during sleep, I always ended up on my stomach & woke up miserable. Now I sleep on a carpet/ wood floor & am happy to wake up on my back, I use a foam neck brace & 2 pillows for neck & under knee. My mouthguard was causing neck pain too but the floor is helping! The neck elevation has to be perfect or acid-reflux is problem on mattress too. I might try a stiff exercise mat on my mattress, that's the only way I'm going back on my bed.also MY OLD BOUNCY SPRING MATTRESS WORKED BETTER than my current firm mattress! Its like the princess & the pea with me! but I gotta keep experimenting!
Actually this is how people traditionally sleep in Asia. In Korea they have floor heating pads and even normal beds are inda hard. Also I sleep without a pillow to remain a straight posture
This was very helpful, thank you so much! I have two questions actually if you don't mind. First, what would be your suggestion(s) for someone who has a "hollow" back? I can't seem to be able to sleep face up without placing a towel underneath to straighten me up. I've been doing it as long as I can remember. Are there exercises you can do to straighten your back or is it just a permanent kind of situation? Second, what's your opinion on placing a pillow between your legs for sleeping on your sides? I never seem to need it, but people tend to tell me over and over how I shouldn't sleep without it b/c I may damage my spine or whatnot. Please and thank you
+vegan therapist beautiful! I will look into some stretching techniques to help my back now that I have a clue what the culprit to my pain is. Thank you so much, really appreciate it! :)
How did your hip bones feel? And do you sleep directly on your hip bones or do you roll forward or backwards with them to try and sit on different structures.
I am having issues with the small of my back hurting. Like I am elevating my knees like people suggest but it’s really hard to find someone to ask about this. When I elevate my knees then the bones on my lower back are on the ground and I feel it and it’s got this pulsing pain. So I don’t know what to do. And for the side sleeping position, my shoulders roll in and it’s awkward figuring out how to deal with that. Like where do you put your arm and laying on your shoulder is uncomfortable. Every night I find a different problem. But no way would I go back to a bed.
Isn't it bad to sleep on the back there being no contact between my "middleback" and the floor? (and yes, I've tried putting a pillow under my knees, but the curve is just too concave)
Hello, thank you so much for this video, i'll try it out. You said we shouldn't go up with our back flat on the ground and should instead turn a bit our butt. What about crunches? Is it the same? Thank you
I've been looking into floor-sleeping, however my primary concerns would be that a) I'm a stomach-sleeper and b) I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which means that I am very hyper-mobile and frequently dislocate my joints at night, especially my shoulders. I frequently wake up very stiff and in a lot of pain. Do you think this means I can't try floor-sleeping?
I've had some EDS patients myself in different stages of progression. Or should I say regression? Chances are, that sleeping on the floor will only make things worse for you. Your joints will rest in the slack position because of the hypermobility and trigger small nerves there. I wouldn't advise it. On the other hand, barely anything is known about EDS as of today. I think though if you tried, you'd probably just be terribly sore in the morning.
vegan simplicity Thanks for the reply! I sort've figured as much, but I'm willing to try pretty much anything. I'm 23 and it feels like I have the joints of someone in their eighties! Though I did notice a positive change when I cut out sugar and dairy (I'm lactose intolerance, as it turns out).
I have EDS hyper mobility type (mild) and I've been floor sleeping for just over two months now - I've found the firm surface (I sleep on a soft blanket only) really helps my aches - especially my hips.
