Being on camera has been a challenge as well as putting my work in the spotlight to be reviewed and critiqued. But I feel very fortunate to be working Chris. The rewards and energy I am getting back are invaluable. I feel the momentum and it's moving me forward in a positive way. Much love and gratitude to the whole team at The Futur and of course Chris. I'm so glad to be a part of this series The Process.

Rebecca! I love the fact that you're an introvert just like I am! INFJ to be exact (which is what you also appear to be). It takes guts to put your business side out there for a number of reasons! But I can already tell that with what Chris is teaching, any uncomfortable feelings of vulnerability you may feel now will dissipate as you begin to grow and develop a higher level of confidence! I totally hope that for you! :) #KeepitUp

One of the things I like with these sessions is that Rebecca appears like a normal person like most of us are, so we can identify with her uncertainties, the situations she meets, etc. and I find that way more useful than an interview of a design superstar.

If you have found The Futur already and you're only 17 - stick with them. Honestly I did a Diploma in GD a few years ago and I've learned so much more from following their youtube vids. It is honestly so valuable so well done - watch their BRANDING A BUSINESS series about Hamilton Family Brewing - it is BRILLIANT and good luck with your 'futur' career...

What a fantastic episode. Many of the comments I recall being said in past videos. So when Rebecca asks a question I'm now getting better and predicting what you will say. So these videos, to me, are awesome at coaching me along. And I am getting better and better at dialog such as this with my customers. Thank you! #tenpercent

Absolutely awesome points! When I ran a coaching business I HAD to learn the art of rapport, asking questions and asking questions that I was scared of asking. Great training for when I kicked off my web business and so many people give feedback that they appreciate the questions that we ask and have them really dig deep into their needs. I also love to concept of charging upfront strategy work rather than just deep diving into "redoing a website" for the sake of it.

When Chris talks about the gut feeling (at 27:20) 'and the bank account says "take it, take it" and you hate your life afterwards.' That's hilarious because it's true. That spoke to me deep in my soul. I've been there a few times. I thought it was just me being fussy and difficult regarding the clients I choose to work with (and that I'm lucky to be getting work at all so I should just take everything I get). But I know that if I ignore that gut feeling, I'll be miserable and create work I'm not proud of. So now I'm so careful with screening clients. Love watching these videos, guys 😊 Warmest wishes from South Africa

Great project insights Chris & Rebecca. I have used 13:58 questions, Scope, timeline and budget. So things got equal. If the client wants to know everything from me and my team I also want to know what will I dive in. With bad clients that is the point where the project ends and it`s a confirmation for that gut feeling. If both sides are open and clear about themselves, in their willing to get the best for the project that is the way to go. -No hidden information. Thanks.

I think Chris might be my spirit animal... Totally joking, kindred spirit would be a better word. One of the best episodes I have seen thus far! Thank you for sharing your wisdom, everyday! Btw, proposals have been on my mind. My first reaction was, What?! I have to do proposals on top of everything else?!” I don’t do proposals, I do a discovery phase, which is prepaid, and then I determine project scope, and budget. If the client agrees, I close the deal and send a letter of agreement. When the deposit has cleared, I move forward with work. Now, I am learning how to determine scope better... 🙌😆🙏😍

It's like me and The Futur are in sync at the moment. A video like this is released the same time a get an email back from a RFP. Client says: - "Regarding the budget, we're just trying to get a feel for how much something like this would cost at the moment. So, in short, I'm not sure! Proposals should not include website design and build - that will be done separately. So, if you could give an idea of what you think it would be to do the brand identity and brand guidelines, that would be very helpful. As I said, we are a small business so our budgets aren't huge, but we do realise that we need to do this professionally so we get it right at the outset." This was an awesome episode in dealing with this type of client. And as Chris said, using "The Win Without Pitching Manifesto" as a guide also, I feel so much more confident in dealing with these requests.

Great video! I would agree with many things that have been said. The only problem I have is that I can't see it working with some companies, like mine for example. I am currently working on the side of the client, not the design company. I prepare RFPs and evaluate bids and in no way my company can accept someone just giving you an estimation/range. Also when we announcing a tender, there is no way we meet with the bidders...We aren't allowed. But I do agree with Chris - meet, discuss give an estimate, review, do the work, send the bill, be happy - is for the best of the client and of the customer.

I know this is an older video, but in more recent videos Chris has talked about Anchoring, where instead of saying $80,000 - $120,000 you would say 120-80. The customer will be anchored to the thing you say first, if you say the cheapest thing first, that’s what they are going to be left thinking about, so when you charge them $95,000 their initial feeling is going to be that it’s more expensive, where as if you said $120,000 first, they would be anchored to that, and now $95,000 sounds like discount

A very informative, on-the-point video. Learning lots from master Do. However, would be nice to see/ hear some advice for someone in a position of a freelancer (a younger design startup with no employees).

Fantastic video! Thank you, Chris. I just had one question - How do I share the proposal? Are we looking at an online platform or a pdf?
@thefutur

you should try to present it in person if possible. otherwise a pdf and a call.

14:20 I have worked with many clients and certainly stumbled upon some like that, WORSE part is, even if you prepare all questions, they won't be able to answer, leaving you with a huge gray area about the project scope which can hurt you financially and client relationships. I would say avoid those type of clients as much as you can, OR ask details if you don't get details, ask again and again, do not move forward until you get the details you need to create a quote.

7:28 A question I often have, The client wants an estimate, you don't have enough information and getting requirements/project planning/estimating.drafting proposal would take substantial time you should be paid for... you propose that activity as an initial billable phase... How do you price that? Hourly rate for time you think all that will take? Percentage of client-stated budget (or some ballpark budget we can come up with)? What percentage? For example, some assume 1/4 or 1/3 budget of a project goes to analysis and design. How do we get to a number for this phase?

I do. I especially like how its visually unique in that it isn‘t the same as the previous season. It‘s warm and fresh; like some nice oven baked content.

I'm your fan, Chris. Do you have any plan making a video about how much salary do graphic designers make? For example, motion graphics designer vs print graphic designer and furthermore art director vs creative director. I've found some assumption salary in Glassdoor and etc, but I always wonder and curious about pragmatic numbers in the industry.

Best thing to do is to offer x money for proposal after fact finding meeting and budget set then to offer to deduct that from the project once they sign

This is too funny not to mention in the video Chris said do without me was talking about passing up a job despite that you need the money because you’ll be miserable and I have an automatic light turned on just as he said it I know probably coincidence but it’s just 😄 💡
