Hi Tony! I hope you're doing well. As I'm new boxing, I'm always failing to decide what to do first. I can't be good at everything on the first week. What should I perfect first. My striking or my defense. Should I even start sparring this early with other new participants?
Hi Tony, loving the content as usual mate. Could you do a bit of expansion on the jab? We saw you throwing a stiff jab here but it'd be good to hear you discuss the other types of jab like the light jab for distance management or filling up your opponents vision, the shattering/whipping jab to set up the right cross, carving the punch in to cause cuts etc. Also how fighters adapt their jab to their styles like Mayweather throwing his flicking jab from low down almost in a Bruce Lee style or Lomachenko using a modified slap/jab to break a tight guard etc. Cheers brother!
Thanks Tony. My jab is, by far, my weakest punch -- particularly a double-jab. I'm going to spend an extra hour at the gym tomorrow just working on exactly what you've covered.
@@SevenEdits-yn2yy Well, THAT came out of nowhere... Regarding your comment, there are more that 3,000 historically recognized "gods" behind belief systems, with their own individual dogma, rites, costume, and apocalypse scenarios. Point being, it's the height of hubris to assume YOU'RE right, and everyone else on the planet is wrong. Worse still is when you consider that hubris (pride) is generally cited as the original, and worst of the seven deadly sins. May I suggest that you keep any future comments to the subject of boxing - That said, I hear Jesus had a mean right hook. Thank you.
Been learning how to box from your videos for some times now and I've been getting better day by day and I'm really thankful to you, thanks tony ,really appreciate it
3 min PACKED with info. Tony could be the model for how YT videos should be made. It’s not the short time, it’s the fact that it IS as advertised. No BS. Which explains why at o er 1,200 views that is ZERO dislikes. Great job on both the content and the thumbnail!! Love this channel!!
This guy's a lifesaver for some beginners that goes to mma gyms but still don't understand forms or their trainers didn't focus on them properly ignore negative comments ❤
Needed this. Hey again Mr. Jeffries thanks for helping again, I got my first sparring match soon excited but nervous. I’ll be sure to check your sparring videos before I head in thanks again
Drop your hands and start doing the chicken dance. No one can resist joining in, it's impossible. When his elbows go out to flap his wings, JAB, OVERHAND RIGHT. Finish the combo with the three claps and flying around like a bird to finish the song's verse while your opponent picks himself off the mat.
He has many videos that can help u learn on ur own, obviously u won’t be fit for a match but for throwing out on a heavy bag it’s good enough, I am a broke student and was pretty fat but I got a heavy bag and every day for like an hour I throw on a heavy bag coupled with a round of shadow box and now I feel better about my self and I have lost pretty good amount of weight. Watch this dudes videos I watched most of them and it has helped
By far the best videos on RU-vid to learn from, Tony Jefferies you are a legend, just to spend one day learning with you would be amazing, thanks for all the dedication your giving to teach others.
The first two points - advancing the lead hand for speed, and stepping into the punch for power - come together if you watch the video in slow motion. The lead hand actually comes back towards the shoulder, as the shoulder drives forward with the step, just before the punch is thrown. This engages the stretch-shortening cycle in the upper arm, shoulder and chest muscles, which produces a more explosive contraction in those muscles, generating a faster and more powerful punch. Interestingly, thrown like that, the fist doesn't actually travel much less far as compared to a punch thrown from a close lead-hand guard.
I’ve recently taken up boxing again thanks in large part to your channel. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your content. You’re a fantastic teacher and full of encouragement. Maybe someone can chime in and answer a question I’ve had for a long time: I’m right handed. But, when I started out years ago I would naturally set up southpaw. Even now, if I don’t think about it, I’ll often set up that way. I’ve forced myself to set up right handed but I seem to move more naturally lefty. My dad was right handed but golfed left handed - he never could change it and was a very good golfer. Should I keep making myself box right handed or go left? Both? If it helps, at the moment I just train by myself and can’t do much more than that. Thanks.
I feel like in boxing no matter what, your dominant hand should be the opposite foot position So for you Orthodox with strong right If you are good with both hands, only switch here and there. But if your naturally going left like u said , it's best to stay like that otherwise you become stiff and it goes out the window when your fatigue or hurt.
@@Timzy2Drip thanks for taking the time to reply. I took a couple months setting up orthodox. My right cross is definitely more powerful than my left. I stuck with it and now it feels comfortable. My balance is way better too. But I do switch to southpaw here and there to throw off my opponent...my heavy bag.
@@brianvickers5287 sweet! I watch boxing videos and learn online. I do shadowboxing. I think ever since the McGregor and floyd fight and influencer boxing, it became interesting
Coach, Thanks for all the information you give through this channel..It really helps me fulfilling my dream to become a boxer..Thanks once again and keep the hard work up. ❤
When I throw jabs, sometimes I breath in at the same time, this is for breathing out with next power punch like right cross, this way helps myself no need to breath in again when throwing next power punch, . And I can hide my breath not to let my opponent recognize that I am going to throw a power punch.
I was taught how to use focus mitts by the late Larry Hartsell (Bruce Lee LA student). He threw the jab and the cross the the same mitt, on the trainers right if in left lead. Whereas I saw a lot of British coaches train the cross the go to the left pad going across the body. To me it seems to be setting up the wrong angle. What do you think Tony?
Keep coming with the videos and how to throw punches correctly plz do all the punches jabs hooks uppercuts overhand all that plz…. Love how u break it down easy to learn. I’m new and do this for cardio and outta love for this as I don’t like working out BUT I do love boxing and hitting stuff so it’s a win win for me much love thanks

Hi Tony, great content. Can you do a video on the how to deal with any guilt ,or feeling bad about hurting an opponent, especially if you did them some degree of lasting damage that might put them out of action for a while. ?? Thanks Tony.
The perfect jab is slept on no pun intended. But with proper timing and body mechanics you'll feel your body flick just the right way. You should work toward hearing a popping sound. I nearly dropped a sparing partner in kickboxing, my assistant coach had to catch him. I checked a southpaw switch right low kick did an orthodox switch left kick and turned it into a teep to the body, stepped into the jab as he leaned forward *pow* almost like a gunshot. The basics will get you were you want to be!🥊
Hey Tony brilliant video. I wanna throw punches like you. So I dedicate my time to watch your well prepared videos. I think you offer bags of value. I am gonna keep watching your space champ 🥊
Great video. I notice that you are jabbing with your non dominant hand, could you do a demo whereby your jabbing with your dominant hand in the stance that you are in. I'm no boxer and throwing any punch, let alone a jab, with my non dominant arm feels beyond weird and ineffectual. Really would like to see the mechanics behind it please.
Thanks for the video really appreciate it! I have an amateur fight coming up I’m going over so many videos of yours. Would you be able to do a video on explosive footwork drills and movements drill?
I don't know anything about boxing, so I have a question. What do you aim at when throwing the jab? The nose/chin? Is it always directed at the face or can it go to the body? What about the neck? Is it even legal to hit the neck in boxing?
Awesome video as always! I grew up watching boxing when Oscar De La Hoya was in his prime and I have never seen a better jab to this day. Would you consider making a video dissecting what made his jab so great? Blessings
Hey Mr. Jeffries, what are your thoughts about Rigondeaux’s performance against Casimero today? And I will really appreciate it if you make a video about how to slip like Rigo.
Tony , love the videos and everything your channel does you are great!! do you perchance want to do a video about peek-a-boo boxing ? im a small guy and always get paired with taller people :)
