Thank you so much for this!❤️ couldn’t find anything for my poor bunny and it’s been almost two weeks, the previous week before that I had used Zymox which also helped tremendously but this stuff really did it. My bunny looks more beautiful than ever
@@svetlanaswan6426 what’s wrong with that? Lmao you need to mind yourself. If they raise their rabbits for meat then I’m sure they want them to be as healthy as possible
Ah, thank you for this!! I think my girl has it, and I just paid all my bills and can’t afford to have her checked out for another week and a half, but I do have food grade DE at home so I might give this a try! I don’t want her suffering
Great video. My bun has had mites for a few months. I couldn't get him to a very because of Covid-19. I will definitely try this because like you I like everything natural. Thank you so much for this video.
@@asmrsleep3079 I barely got our first bunny and the food his breeder gave me was infested with mites 🙃 tomorrow he’s 10 weeks old and he started losing his hair. I already treated him for ear mites but I need something to help his fur grow back
Thnx for the video! It is still helpful. I have a question and a comment. How long should I wait to put my bun back in a wire cage sprayed with the neem oil? There are a couple of boards he sits on also, which I think you said are ok to spray as well. Also, I saw something on the internet today that said if you don’t see actual mites but they have the fur loss and flakiness, that it could be a DENTAL issue. That blew my mind but apparently dental issues can wreak all sorts of havoc in buns. I’m definitely going to use/try the de/neem first and pray it works because it’s way cheaper than dental surgery! But if you try all this and your bun still has fur probs, that may be why. Btw I really like how you protected the babies’ faces unlike other videos I’ve seen where they just dumped de all over the poor things. Horrible for their eyes and lungs. Beautiful angora!
Hi thank you so much for the video really helpful, I just wanted to ask if they're mostly on wiredfloor because that can cause bumble foot which wouldn't be good.
As long as the wire is thick enough and spaced right its actually BETTER for the rabbits since fences falls through and there nails hang down. If it was all solid wood the ammonia in the urine pollutes there air and the nails from there paw pushed there foot back at an unnatural angle causing hock sores. The person in the video did it the best way for a caged rabbit.
Thanks for sharing. I am so sick of people touting to use revolution and other toxins on their buns. Just because your rabbit lives afterwards without "side effects" does not mean those toxins did not harm your rabbit. Natural is always best for these delicate creatures.
Hello, One of my buns has been loosing hair for the last month and she looks so ratty. I thought she was molting but think its a bit too early for that here in the northeast. I was going to call the vet to bring her in but wanted to try some natural remedies and found your video. I'm going to douse the food grade DE on her tomorrow. May I ask what type of neem oil do you use on the cage? I have neem that is used on plants, is that the same stuff? This video is helpful. Thanks for sharing!
I noticed my rabbit was losing hair two months ago and keep over grooming and the hair under her neck was getting matted so i would cut it off And her neck was getting bald And she kept scratching and her skin was flaky, so i looked it up and boom i can help her now , can dogs get these mites?
i have 2 rabbits that have skin mites at the moment. they are spayed and neutered and are friendly so i keep them in the same enclosure and they always give each other kisses. you said that the Diatomaceous earth is not the best for them to ingest but i realize that you kept your bunnies together during this process and i would just wondering if you could give some insight about if you think it is okay to keep them together after i dust it on them. thanks!
If they are all infected then it's OK to keep them together. If you keep an infected bunny and a healthy bunny together the healthy one will probably get it too.
I just bought a rabbit I think has this. It's an outside 2x4 framed structure with 2 cages per level resting on a 2x4 that spans the with. So 2 story 4 individual cages resting on the 2x4 supports. My infected bun will get treated and his cage but what about my bunny in the cage across from him that share the underlying 2x4 support beam? I put cardboard between the two cage sides but it still rests on that 2x4 they all are supported by. Do I also spray that 2x4 with neem oil a ways over and under the healthy rabbit? How far will mites travel away from original host? Thanks great video my neem and food grade will arrive by mail in 5 days here.
It's recommended to assume all rabbits in cages beside or below an infected one have it too. You could treat them all or wait and see if any others get infected.
@@HappyHarvestHomestead thanks all of them are being treated now. Ivermectin and food grade DE for adults only food grade DE for 5 week old kits. HOWEVER I brought them inside unknowingly!!! I have no indoor animals it's just me. Can they survive off my blood and home alone without ANY animals?
hi! i hope u can answer my question even though its late. idk if my rabbit really have fur mites but a part of her fur have a white something that looks like dandruff i searched it up on Google but I don't really know if its the same case with my rabbit. that part of her fur where u can see the dandruff thingy whenever i try to pull her fur softly (not in a aggressive way) in that part a lot of fur are taken out so i was really worried, is it a fur mites? sorry for the bad english, english is not my first language. thank you :)
Hi, I just have a question. I just bought my bunny yesterday and the breeder told us that he has no hair around his neck for some reason. She said it would grow back though. It’s looks a bit pink and he keeps scratching it. Do you think this could help stop the itchiness and regrow his hair?
He could have fleas. If it’s scratching around his ears and face it’s most likely that. If there is scurfy itchy or patches in your rabbits fur it can be mites, which appear often in the back or neck and can look like thick dandruff. Mites and fleas must be check by a vet to get the appropriate treatment otherwise it could be harmful to inhale or inject with other treatments that are not that worth trying.
My rabbits have this skinny black thing that was in there fur along with a translucent honey colored insect. Is this different stages of walking dandruff formation? Thanks for any reply!
My rabbit crystal for his entire life he has been itching his backside with his mouth just about everyday. He’s 4 years old and hes spinning around in circles frantically trying to get the itch. And he does this for about 10 seconds more or less in segments each day. Plus he makes this quiet honking sound while doing so. Mostly when i’m with him but not when he’s sleeping or tired (could be pruritus or worms since we got him by a backyard breeder that kept him in a hutch outside when he was a baby). The vet didn’t say much maybe she just didn’t understand what i meant but idk what to do because my mom thinks that is just normal rabbit behavior and she doesn’t want to take him to the vet again for some reason but honestly i want to take him again because something is obviously wrong if he’s ben itching his back his whole life…
Great video, thank you so much for sharing this! I have two questions about these methods: Would you recommend applying neem oil to a wooden hutch just as you do with wire cages? Or is there a reason why the wood wouldn't be treated this way. And, what is the youngest age you would use DE for? I have 2 week old bunnies and they are scratching much more than other litters I have had in the past, so I'd like to treat them, but they are so young and I don't want to put them at risk if it isn't a safe measure for babies this little.. Thank you in advance!
Yes neem oil is okay for wooden hutches as well. I'd wait till your two week olds are at least a month, so they will be hopping around and not need a nestbox anymore. Not sure what a good dusting of DE would cause if it was mixed all over their fur and bedding so they had to constandly breathe it in.
My rabbit has developed some flakey skin on her neck. No fur is missing and she doesn't seemed to be bothered by it, but it is causing a lot of dandruff. Do you know if this would still be mites? I was going to treat her with the powder anyway just in case.
I just noticed my bunny has a decent sized patch of missing hair it’s not really bald because there is some hair left he is a house bunny and their are no other bunny’s that might have caused this could this be mites or something else my mom says it might just be him shedding and it’s part of the process should I be worried?
Thank you for this. I cannot find a good rabbit vet in my area and I feel like this problem keeps coming back, despite keeping her cage clean. It’s so frustrating! Will try this when the DE arrives.
I set my buns on top o my lap outside to apply this and with a fine tooth plastic comb brushed through their fur. These mites were showing themselves. Especially on their back neck area, tail area and their butt and thighs. It’s awful. I just started and plan to do this everyday for 2 weeks
Hi, is fur mites and mange are the same? Can I also use DE powder to those who are not infected(just incase they might have mites, coz I'm not really sure)?
I believe mites and mage are the same thing. Yes, you can treat your rabbits with DE just in case. It' won't hurt them at all if they don't have mites.
@@HappyHarvestHomestead thank you! I will give it a try! I was looking and looking for natural remedies and came across your video. Thank you for sharing.
@@poppy.b.r Hi, I'm not sure I think my bunny may have been shedding? whatever it was it went away. maybe it was mites and this worked. Thank you for checking on me I appreciate it!
Thank you for this video, so helpful. I found a Food Grade DE, would that be effective in treating fur mites? And could you please share what grade DE you got and where? Thank you!
I had rescued my bunny two days ago from a friend he doenst seem to have any patching or loss of hair or dandruff he just kept scratching a specific area I noticed he especially scratches after I pet him Is it possible to be mites?
@@serena1555 I've never personally tried it on dogs or cats but DE is safe for rabbits, chickens and goats so I'd assume dogs and cats would be the same.
Hi, would you pls consider putting proper flooring that protects the rabbits paws. Wire is extremely bad for rabbits and can cause sore hock and other issues. It brings a lot of discomfort and pain to stand on a wire cage floor 24/7. Thanks so much.
Hi just wanna ask if the small red thing that is all around my rabbit's body a mites? im worried because its all over her body and i don't know if it is mites or not. i want to treat it early. the red thing is really small and they're a LOT. im really worried if it's mites or other pests 😭
It's called Neem oil. A lot of people use it in their garden as a natural pest killer. I just mix it up according to the instructions on the container and spray it on the cages.
I just found out one of my bunnies has fur mites. He's a male. Pardon my ignorance, but what's DE? I would ike to get and see if it can help my baby before it gets worse. This is the first time I'm dealing with this. Thanks.
If the DE doesn't kill the eggs, what does? My bunny eats well still, but his losing his strength. Which type of DE should I get? Or it doesn't matter?
@@yesikanarvaez5027 Some people say if you breathe in DE it'll cut up the inside of your lungs, but I've never had a problem. Of course I wear a mask when I use it and try to keep it away from the rabbit's noses, but they still breathe in a little and they're fine.
My rabbit is scratching its cheeks, under the chin, and ears is DE safe to apply to cheeks and under chin? Also is it safe for my rabbit to lick its fur and ears after applied? My rabbit loves to lick
Rabbits scratching sometimes is normal. If your rabbit has flakey skin on the areas it's scratching I would guess they had fur mites. DE is safe for animals to eat. It's fine if you rabbit licks some.
I heard some people are more sensitive to fur mites and do actually get bites. Not sure about it, just what I’ve read somewhere. I don’t get bit but I feel them crawling on me
Some of the stuff that you’re saying is not making any sense once you put DE on their body they’re gonna go back and lick it up anyways so they’re going to breathe it in and two you said you spray their cage with neem oil but their bodies are going to touch it for them to be in contact with it so it’s just very extra to me
Yes they will breathe in some DE, trying to minimize how much they breathe is the goal. Neem oil on the cage is to kill any mites that fell off the rabbit.
@@HappyHarvestHomestead hello again! Great news and bad news, the DE worked wonderfully on my rabbits, I'm so happy that they aren't suffering anymore, thanks to you! Unfortunately for my other rabbit, the DE did worked for awhile but the mites came back and keep targeting her hands at the nail part, I did apply with consistency, is this normal? Did I do something wrong? The mites are persistent 😥
Hi i just wanna ask if there are any treatments to cataract in rabbits? my rabbit have cataract in her left eye and fur mites im now treating her fur but I don't know if there are any treatments for cataract in rabbits
This probably doesn't apply anymore, but with ear mites you can use olive oil. There is a video on youtube called "how to treat rabbit ear mites with this kitchen utensil". That is not the exact title but it will show up if you search that. I treated my rabbits ear mites that way.
Rabbits don’t have pads on the bottom of their feet like cats & dogs its just bone then skin ..wire bottom cages would be like us live on our knees on wires ..wire bottom cages are for lazy owners
Hi, I am sorry but I have to say that the wire cages are just not suitable for your bunnies. The wire bottoms will cause sores on your rabbits feet and it's so uncomfortable for them! Especially the babies with their teeny little paws. Plus the cage bounced around every time mum moved around. And they seem quite small. I also want to mention the way you picked mum up. They should have their feet supported and shouldn't be picked up by their fur. Please know I am trying to inform you and not have a go at you. I just found the video uncomfortable to watch.
Thank your for your concern. Thankfully not all wire causes sore hocks and the wire on that cage didn't cause any foot issues with either mama or babies. Larger rabbits are actually more prone to sore hocks, so the babies were extra safe since they were so small and light. Thank you again for being so kind
She is a breeder, proper care and treatment of bunnies isn't really a concern for her hence the tiny wire box the bunnies are stuffed in and the breeding of that poor rabbit too.
I feel so sorry for your poor rabbits, living in a tiny, barren, wire cage, (which hurts their feet). Nothing soft to lay on, no place to go into to hide. This is just so sad and disgusting. Shame on you treating sentient animals this way, and then you murder them on top of that. How can you live with yourself?
If you look through other comments she said that there is cardboard for the rabbits to get off of the wire if they want. Even so, my rabbits live in a wire cage. I got them padding for their feet but they ended up not wanting it. Majority of rabbits will develop thicker fur on their feet to protect them. But also, she is making a video to help people with their rabbits health, she was not looking to offend anyone.
@@veganc5028 I have never harmed an animal in my life. You dont have to believe me and you dont have to like me. Just dont attack people who aren't doing anything wrong. I hope your ok with the fact that you are fighting with a kid.
Do your research before attacking someone that is actually giving good advice about HELPING Rabbits. Correctly sized wire mesh is far better for Rabbits for lots of reason so long as they have a rest pad(which she has). What I actually find disgusting is the way you spoke to someone you know nothing about, on a subject you clearly know nothing about, and tried to make them feel bad when they have done nothing wrong.
