KeyShot tutorial: How to use Poliigon maps to create materials in KeyShot. In this tutorial I’ll be using KeyShot 7 Pro to walk you through the process of using texture maps from Poliigon.com to create materials in KeyShot. I’ll use the material graph to setup two different materials and show a few workflow tips along the way. I’ll be creating a wood and metal material as the workflow differs slightly between metal materials and dielectric materials such as wood, concrete, pastic, etc.

Hey Esben, I was wondering why it is that one must change the diffuse/specular colours and then invert them when setting up the reflection and gloss maps? If you're inverting the colours then why not just set the opposite colour from the start and avoid inverting altogether? Also what benefit does it derive? Thanks a lot for the great tutorial!

thanks for the tutorial ,, I am a pretty good modeler but I stink at materials wish I was better I'm gonna subscribe and really put some effort into improving my renders,, I am using keyshot 8 and want to learn how to use the new displacement map abilities,, also want to learn how to use alphas so cut holes in models,

hey Esben, Thanks for the tutorial but, whenever I'm unchecking the fresnel box, it's not converting it to the metal surface. What could be the problem??

Thankyou for the tutorial Esben! When i download materials from Quixel, I do no have a download option for Reflection Map instead I am able to download a specular map jpeg. Are they the same? Can I use a specular map in Specular with the same process as you showed ?

hi, before my question I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your work, great videos!I have a quick question. I made a model in autocad, worked on it in Zbrush, and now in Keyshot for final rendering. All fine, except some of the edges on the back side, which are shown kinda transparent/ segmented showing construction wired. I tried different material or edited norms, no help. I noticed that bigger scales sometimes help, as a trick, but also no help here. would really appreciate your feedback thanks in advance and best regards

Hello Esben. I have a doubt. REFL goes always with Specular and GLOSS goes always with Roughness no matter where the textures come from or it´s something specific for Poliigon textures? I´ve been always connecting REFL to Roughness. Was it a mistake of mine? And thanks again for another very usefull video. I´ve learn some tricks here!
@esbenoxholm
@esbenoxholm 6 лет назад
Hi Leo. Yeah, reflection maps should go into specular (inverted) and gloss in roughness (inverted) no matter where they come from. However, you can of course use a reflection map in the roughness channel or vice versa if it gives you a certain look that you are after. It's just not how the maps were designed to be used. Always experiment and go with whatever you think look the best :)

Hi Esben, Thanks a lot for your videos ! I've learned a lot with ! Do you have an idea on how to use Maxwell materials ? the files names are a bit different from Poliigon. for example I try to use a Carbon material and names of images are : bump - diffuse - norm - reflect. Where would you link them ? and has I've seen you video about Carbon material would you use an anisotropic material or Advanced ? thanks in advance for your answer !
@esbenoxholm
@esbenoxholm 5 лет назад
Thanks for the nice words! Not sure if I misunderstand the question, but the names sounds pretty similar to me :) 'diffuse' for the color 'bump' or 'norm' for bump 'reflect' for specular Carbons are tough. I think the correct way is to use an anisotropic material.
@marinemorin6909
@marinemorin6909 5 лет назад
Ok thanks ! the misunderstanding comes from that I thought I had to use "all" the files provided in a material folder. So I didn't know where to put both "bump" an "norm". Anyway I've learned again today !!! ;) Thanks again !!!

Have you checked out the KeyShot Cloud at cloud.keyshot.com/index.php - Tons of user created materials here. Otherwise I would say Poliigon :)

Man, i never though that keyshot can be so versatile. Thank you so much, i will dig into. Im desperate to find a freaking fast stand alone renderer to satisfy my boss who never gives me more than 30 mins to render a scene. Lets say a furniture product design for random customers. Can i make a template on keyshot? With materials, environment, render scene settings?

Hi Esben. Could you maybe make a video where you show how to make a realistic candlelight. Mostly the flame itself :) if that’s even possible in keyshot of course
@esbenoxholm
@esbenoxholm 6 лет назад
Hi Mads! For the flame I would recommend to find a good stock image of a flame and overlay it in Photoshop - or on a plane in KeyShot if you prefer. I used a stock video clip of a flame for this experiment I did a while back: instagram.com/p/BHUhVd8j6QP/?hl=en&taken-by=esbenoxholm

I have a problem with the different maps (gloss, reflection...) synchronizing to each other when I move "mapping" up and down... they don't synchronize in size nor position... any help?? thanks!

Take a look at the 'mapping 2d' utility node. Use can use it to control the mapping of all the textures. luxion.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/K9M/pages/1062442972/Mapping+2D

Yup, true. Almost - I realised that I connected the maps for the wood incorrectly so I re-recorded that part and re-uploaded it :)

@@tgs1766 Allow me to make it easier for you. If you have not heard, it's called EDITING and UPDATING.
