Most important question would be how would you know the seal needs replaced from outside the dryer. That being said, my actual question would be about the material itself. Its just foam, or is it? What is the makeup of the foam, i have some sealant foam that is more condensed than this foam that could prove to be a better seal. I would like to make sure it would be OK as far as a fire concern. Thanks in advance!
I do not know the make up of the foam or what could replace it, it would probably be best to use the manufacturers seals. Most of the time these seals are changed when doing other repairs and it is noticed they are worn, it would be hard to tell from the outside of the dryer if it had failed. If you saw longer drying times it could be the seals leaking or when you open the dryer cabinet you see a lot of lint in the dryer, it could be a sign of bad seals, either foam or felt.
Thanks! The foam looked identical to door insulation but well worn. The whole reason I went in was because no heat (only the thermal fuse went). Checked everything! There was a some lint in the chute and foam was a little worn off in a section. Went ahead and did a 'full service' clean, foam, and fuse since it was open. Hard to tell which it may have been, no issues now. I have another dryer I looked at (thought about this later) and looked at the material, looked cheaper than my HD door insulation. Used mfg specs anyway!
Awesome! The main concern would be using something else that is not rated for high temp use, we know the manufacturers is! Thermal fuses sometimes go out from a dirty exhaust duct, so make sure you clean it all out.
