You cant come out the pits and judge how the car will handle on cold tires on the first corner.. Minimum of 3laps dude.. thats just bad advice

Hmm...mostly fun and informative videos, but this one I can't recommend. I get that you show the "effect" immidiately, and that you want to point at that the "solution" was when you finally softened the rear dampers. But, in general this is the worst possible approach to learning how to setup a car. You also overdrive the car on the first few runs, while in the later you are much more gentle with the inputs, so nothing is really comparable here either. Finally, you didn't even reset the setup in between changes, you just kept radical changes for no apparent reason. So, did you want to teach beginners how to setup a car, or just the exaggerated effect of each change? Sorry, that's a redo. Best AC nick: Tberg

great video! already watched all your setup guides, but the "real world" examples are very handy to get a feel for what system to use in the approach of changing settings. Maybe you could do a video covering in what order you normally look at the settings.

@viperconcept great tutorial. But why start a setup on cold tires? Heat the tires. Then find the optimum racing line. Then push the default setup to it's limits. Then find the true flaws. No gain, no shame. All your vids are great. esp Nordschleife. learnt a lot from that. keep up the good work! kudos!

Wow, that was amazing. The Porsche really did become a totally different car. When I played Gran Turismo 4 10 years ago the most I would tweak is the gears. This video makes me want to give racing games a try again.

does anyone know a website like GTPlanet for assetto corsa car setups? GTplanet DOES have an AC setup part but.. there is nothing in there... I'm a huge noob at AC right now and I'm only playing sinlge player races.

Granted my experience is in Forza, but I work the opposite way. Preferring to have a good "mechanical" balance and fine tuning max grip with aero and tires. That has been more adaptable for me, as the course adjustment is in the gearing and aero to suit acceleration and top speed needs. Neat.

if you had smoother throttle control you wouldn't need to make an understeering setup for yourself. you lost it at turn 2 at Barcelona on all the attempts because you were too aggressive on the throttle. you only made it through on the final attempt because you were slower and smoother on the throttle. watch it back and see for yourself.

i find stock is the best set up. its rounded for the car. unless i find a problem. then ill try fix it.

You need to do complete laps before adjusting setup. Sometimes the best setup for an entire race may not be great for first corner.

I haven't played any racing sims yet. but I have the Logitech driving force GT which I use for other arcade/arcade-racing games. when I start playing project cars 2 will the lack of clutch in my setup hamper my race when I drive in manual?!

yes i need to learn it...tx i al2ays insist on my driving doing the best i can with original setup...sometimes what i mess with is gearbox wich hs nothing to do with turns...that part of suspensions for my was always a bugger. Surelly a nice setup makes huge diference. thanks for sharing knoledge. eger to test messing with the dampings wich i never change or if i do was totally blind...well not anymore

Before I watched the end of the video you can see the car begins to overrate as he turns in to mid corner, to me it looks like there is to much weight transfer to the front causing decreased in the back due to trail braking. I would've tried adjusting the front bump or rear rebound first.

I honestly do very basic set ups. Just Tire compound, maybe pressure, downforce, and gear ratio. I just don't have time, and patience to test toe and dampers etc. The Porsche is rear engine, where all the weight is transferring, so it is necessary to adjust your driving style to be quick. It just takes some getting used to. Thanks for taking the time to do this guide though. Very informative. *Edit.. also, if you use a wheel I find that lowering force feedback helps with better steering control, and accuracy. in AC i think I use 34-35. (T-300RS wheel).

It's opposite for final ratio(unless Assetto Corsa doesn't use the standard measure values). Basically, higher gear ratio means more torque, but less turning speed. The higher gears are smaller just because of this(so that they could turn faster at the same engine RPM.

What sim do you currently prefer? I know, that guys like you probably play them all, but is there one, that sticks out for you, wether it is realistic or simply best to drive competitively.

very nice viperconcept, i really enjoy your videos and your Knowledge, but for us parentholders, wife and 2 kids, sometimes we do not have enought time to setup the car (we take a lot more time than you), so i try to find other ppl setup on internet, and adapt myself to it, or do minor changes. Hello there anybody knows how to setup Mazda Rx-7 and Nissan R34 GTR for Nordschleife ? - Mazda - oversteer every corner Nissan understeer every corner ( somehow i solved it by braking in the corners together with adding acceleration)

Real "knowledge" as you say would have told you instantly...that that's a powertrain issue. Had you noticed when and think why it oversteered, you would have thought diff preload too high (locks too quikly on accel) and and maybe anti rolls and suspension stiffness. No need to do trial and arror on ALL parts of the car...because now if you find another problem, you'll mess up the solution to this one to solve the other... PS. It' better than not doing anything and just struggle to drive, I guess.

Quick question; why the hell didn't you revert the ridiculous toe angle settings before fiddling with the other stuff, after realising they weren't the culprit? o.O EDIT; I also would have set 1st gear one notch shorter than you did as it did feel like it was a tad tired and 2nd came fairly close, maybe it would have required more throttle modulation but I am fairly confident and if it would have mean getting a better run out of for example the start/finish straight chicane I would have definitely opted for it. But great video, will be thinking back on this when I'm frustrated over an undrivable car, and remember to be patient with the setup :)

Why your Assetto Corsa looks so different from mine???? I mean the set up and general UI. I have AC PC version. Maybe that's why?

Come back to this video a year later and noticed that in case 1 you put massive toe out on the rear and large toe in on the front? You also said you would finally adjust rear slow bump and rebound, but instead you changed rear slow rebound and rear fast rebound and front slow rebound? On case 3 the Ferrari you said you would give it similar toe front and back, which you did, but on the left at the stat screen you had about toe in +0.03 at the rear and toe in +0.32 at the front, that's not similar? 😉

I sucks at car setup. It needs to know too much things that i really don't wanna know. Your video is ok but not helpful for me if changin cars, tracks or condition. Is there a ps4 racing games that doesn't need to be an engineer? Great vid anyway

With f1 cars, at least modern f1 cars, you always will have more front downforce as the rear wing has massive effects on drag. Also when the rear wing is higher, you have more stability out of slow corners but that can be controlled by a smooth throttle application. Also in fast corners you will have considerably amounts of under steer.

So what this video says in general: You need knowledge. Little of it provided by this video. So learn it all by yourself like I had to. And because I was so dedicated, you need to get through all of that frustration too.

did viperconcept ever race cars in real life? his first lap on the g29 was great, heal toe downshifts (not all that good but still, they were heel toe downshifts) what if this car in his intros is really him???????

If you changed something which didnt solve the problem shouldnt you change it back to what it was before changing something else?

1: the porsche on the screen is a porsche 911 R not a RSR. the steering wheel on the RSR is different then on the regular 911 porsche's. so next time make sure u know the differents between the 911 serie's.

I think the thing you could've noted was that the break away characteristics of a car are modeled my the swaybar setup...

your setup on the Porsche helped you indeed but 07:23 you didnt take the corner the same way, your driving was clean and safer in that moment great video and music choice

You changed settings, you didn't revert to the previous settings before trying other ones, thus compounding the problems

I still have problem with the car setup which is affected the pace, sometimes I just don't know what else to do, I feel like I have adjusted the setup based on what you told in the tutorial but the lap still slow. in public server (AC) I always around 2-5 seconds slower compared to the leader even with the same car. would you help me? to analyze, maybe I will upload my lap when I do online race.

So how to set up an rwd car which has a ton of understeer, does not really want to turn in at all on corner entry, but on corner exit just like at a flip of a switch, suddenly gets horrible oversteer and wants to spin out madly? Downforce is maxed both at the front and at the back already.

were you driving automatic in this? Because otherwise DAMN, that's some quick gear shifting on your part, well done.

On-power oversteer, I always adjust that in the diff settings. Then if it's sketchy in turns off power rear camber helps alot. I always like softer spring rates to cus it makes the car feel less twitchy, and use higher roll settings to control the roll.

"PROBLEM" made me laugh. Great vid, this helps a lot now that I'm moving away from simcade and more into sim... the tunes don't matter as much on the arcadey games.
