As a Speech Language Pathologist, this question comes up a lot! Multiple languages is an amazing gift to give to a child. It ties to their heritage and history as well as their future ♥️ A lot of multilingual families split where one parent speaks language A and the other speaks language B. The same with extended family and friends (e.g. Spanish) You can also do music and books in both languages as well. Multiple languages are stored in different areas of the brain. So don’t be worried that you are stunting/confusing their development

I was genuinely curious if this communication in two languages not gonna give a baby a lot of confusion, human's brain is a mighty machine 🧐

My husband and I are bilingual canadians, so english and french. We speak both daily. The only thing I've noticed with my boys is that they tend to favor one language to speak, but they understand both. My oldest favored english to speak, but he when we ask him to say it in french, he knows the words. So far, at 4 years old, he just has difficulty formulating french sentences, but knows the words. Their brains are sponges. :)

I grew up with two languages. My mom spoke to me in french and my dad in german. Our family language, the one that we speak as a group, was french. I’ve never spoken french to my dad and german to my mum. Same for the rest of my family. I just knew by people talking to me in their language to know which language i should talk to them. Im so grateful for my parents to make me grow up with two languages. Your kid will make some word fusions between the two languages which my parents still love to remind me but other than that its quit simple :)
@loveskorea20
@loveskorea20 Год назад
This 100%! I grew up with german and dutch and also associate one language with one parent. For me, both my parents learned the other one's language as well which was nice because I was able to talk in both languages at home without one parent not understanding the conversation. The word fusions are soo relatable! I remember my mom said that growing up, we would understand her talking in german but we always replied in dutch, so don't get discouraged if this happens, in the end my sister and I are both native in both languages (: I am so grateful having been brought up bilangual. Some people might say that you should focus on Spanish and English because these languages are generally spoken in more places, but I think teaching him bulgarian can be very valuable too! It just might be more difficult for him to read/write in the languages if he is only taught at home by talking (:
@loveskorea20
@loveskorea20 Год назад
@@noornoornoor23 For me, it really depends. When we are having a conversation all together, my mom speaks in german, my dad mostly in dutch though he will sometimes also switch to german. I will switch back and forth depending on which parent I look at while talking haha. Sounds really strange perhaps, but it works for us :)

We traveled a lot before having kids and once we had our first one, people made comments like guess your traveling days are over now. Wrong; our kids lived our lifestyle traveling with us. Today all 3 are grown and have significant others. They all love to travel and we still sometimes travel with them together! Went to the Alps this past summer with our youngest son. Planning another trip with our daughter and husband with our 1st grandchild. Went to the islands with our other son. So having kids didn’t change our traveling it made it more of an adventure. You will love having a little one to show the world!!!

Raya! I'm spanish and my husband is serbian. We are expecting our baby this july and we got some advice from international couples that are friends of ours. What we will do is each parent speaks in its own mother tongue to the kid, this way the baby will learn both languages and know exactly with whom to speak what. At home, I will talk to my kid in spanish, my husband will talk in serbian and when we're all together (lunch time, things like that) we will speak english (since that's the language we use at home to communicate). I hope this helps :)

Best advice from Rya's dad "live your life". That's what we did, having a baby did not change our lives, it enriched it, our kids adapted well. Also, do not whatsoever listen to those moms that say "oh just wait". I love what you said about I'd rather focus on the positive!

One tip we found helpful was to go ahead and book a small, more local trip BEFORE you have the baby. Maybe for when baby is about 1-2 months old. That way, it kinda forces you out of your comfort zone when the thought of traveling with a baby might still be overwhelming and you would otherwise just stay home. We found the thought of traveling to be a bit scary once we had a baby, but once we ripped the bandaid off, so to speak, it really wasn’t bad. And the more you do it, the easier it gets. I hope that makes sense! So excited for you guys 💕

Working at a library what I'll say about language is that early literacy is so important and that it doesn't matter what language you speak to your child in. What's important is them recognizing that they can use language to explain the world around them. So English, Spanish, Bulgarian, do all of it. Once they understand how language works they'll already be putting together what words to use for what things. Kids are little sponges, so use all three languages even when your son doesn't speak yet, it'll make learning and keeping up with those languages so much easier for him! For example: my mother speaks French and spoke French to me my whole childhood and so even now that I rarely use it, I haven't lost it, because it was so integral in my infancy and childhood.

There is a lot of couples out there and young families doing great work on RU-vid. I can’t wait to see how you two are going to be as awesome parents as I think you will be. Travelling with the baby is a state of mind, do it but on your own time. Raya I love your sense of style, I love how you feel relaxed and comfortable for the most part. We women come in all shapes and sizes and the more we embrace ourselves as we are ,the less the world opinion matters. You two get it, have got a great handle on what your doing and have given yourselves the freedom to figure it out and make it work for you. Can’t wait to see .

Having a baby does come with some challenges but it is soooo much worth it! Watching that little human grow and develop is one of the coolest thing on earth! Your love only grows deeper as time goes and you finally understand that you can love so much it hurts! And you adapt them to your lives and to what you love! You will find your flow as a family. And birth as hard as it can be it is the most amazing and magical thing! Women are so powerful! And watching your husband becoming a father is a memory you’ll never forget. The emotions are so raw and beautiful. I love birth and would relive my births any day !

Hello. First time commenting on your videos. The most important tip I can give you is to get sleep any time you can. Don't worry about the household chores, that's where family , friends and partners come in handy. Also, having a place to put all the baby items will help keep the place tidy. A basket or small toy box in each room is so handy. I like the idea of you doing shorts. Cheers from Canada.

I never gave up travelling when I had children! Travelling with children is different and in some ways better. My children are grown and still to this day, travelling with them is what both my husband and I miss. We travelled with our children from Canada to Germany before they were a year old. It takes a bit more planning but it is so worth it! 💕

I'm so excited for you both. You are going to be amazing parents. When considering languages to teach him, please also consider sign language. Baby sign language allows him to communicate with you before he has developed speech. It's very simple and he can learn to sign things like more, finish, hurt and show you where it hurts. I taught deaf kids for 43 years and am a huge advocate for baby sign language with hearing children. You can buy simple books to teach yourself and the baby at the same time or look for videos online. Best of luck in the next few weeks!

I heard you mention schooling was in the questions. I just want to say that my husbands job had travel built into it and we discussed not wanting to be separated because of a brick n mortar school so we decided to homeschool our daughter. It was not something I ever thought I would do but I am so glad I did cause it afforded us the opportunity to stay together as a family and brought so many learning opportunities to the table that otherwise would not have happened. I look back now and wouldn’t change that decision. There were hard times but there were also many great times. In the end you guys do you. Peace.

Teach or expose your child to as many languages as you want. I do want to note that as an educator, I have noticed children who are learning more than one language at once tend to, but not always, speak a bit later than their one-language peers, because they are also learning to "categorize" the languages into their proper areas. It doesn't mean they won't speak, they will, it might take a little bit longer. Nothing wrong with letting a child speak more than one language. It is awesome and early exposure to the languages will make it much easier if they learn languages later in life. All children eventually catch up and those exposed to more languages have huge advantages.

Just a suggestion from a mom of two teens! My husband and I had a nightly routine that we would shut ourselves in our room for 1 hour! That was our time the kids weren’t allowed to knock on our door or bother us unless it was an emergency of course! When they were little it was usually after bedtime but as they got older and could entertain themselves for that long then it was easier, but that hour was our time to watch tv, talk about our day, or even have sexy time! Good luck and enjoy every moment!

I was a young mom and when I was younger I kind of parented the way I was parented. But as I became more spiritual I left that parenting style behind and have been practicing gentle parenting for the past 8 years. I love it so much more. My kids are all teenagers now and they are really good kids. Gentle parenting takes a more loving approach. I would suggest researching it to see if it's a good fit for you. Love that you talked about unwanted negative talk. We have a 12 month old baby boy and the first was a awesome rollercoaster. People would tell us 'say goodbye to youre sleep' and 'we will talk to you in a couple of months and see if you are still so positive'. Yes it is sometimes intense, but most of all it is magic. And now number 2 is coming 😳 Enjoy seeing you're people coming out of his cocoon and get to know him.

I’m listening to y’all talk about languages, and a tip that was a godsend for us was sign language. The terrible twos are strongly brought on by knowing what they want but not having verbal skills. It doesn’t take a lot. We just taught him things like milk, more, please, Thank you, and diaper. And it was cute because up until about 4, he would say Thank you but sign it at the same time. He’s now 14 and I’m lucky if he waves at me. 😂

as a Mom of 7 adult children, 3 of which are triplets, my body changed tremendously, I can understand Raya's feelings, but just know this and it is coming from a woman who has struggled years with weight gain, You are beautiful and most importantly, you are such an inspiration to many other young ladies and old ones like myself.

Hi Raya and Louis!! On the topic of languages: it is such a gift to raise your child(ren) bi or trilingual!!! Coming from a bilingual family myself, I can not even tell you how many benefits it brings to ones life. Also, kids are like sponges, they absorbe everything, so don't be worried abt talking in different languages they will know which language to talk with each one of you (same goes for rest of the family). Apart from speaking, it is super beneficial for them to maybe hear stories or tales or just read a book of that culture/language bc it will help them with vocabulary and heritage/knowledge abt that culture and music is great too! Anyways, really enjoyed the video, I am super excited for you two and can't wait to see what's to come❤

I grew learning two languages. We are teaching our son both Spanish & Gujurati. He picks up certain phrases here and there but most important part is he’s learning and enjoying it.

We have a 2 year half year old and 6 months old babies ❤️ and we raise them with 4 languages…me speak German to them…my partner speaks Swedish to them and we live in Denmark where they learn Danish and my partner and me speak English to eachother. This is turning out very nicely and at least the oldest is learn really well! Loui will understand Bulgarian too since you will repeat a lot of stuff and in an easy way because you speak to a child normally in an easier language - so also he will understand more and more

I’m so glad you took a baby moon. We did the same and went to Hawaii with our first child. You guys really do need to get your things ready for birth before anything else. My son was born at 36 weeks. Which OB said it was full term. Not all babies arrive at 40 weeks. As probably they have told you baby can come before or after 40 weeks. Putting your birth plan together (home birth vs hospital) and getting a doula / midwife is essential if you plan a water birth they will help you with all the little things of planning for birth. Enjoy your time together. I enjoyed reading,singing, dancing talking and play music to the baby while I was pregnant. They hear all the sounds around them. They recognize your voice and smell. You both are going to be amazing parents all will fall into place. Just enjoy the beautiful bonding experience. You will be amazed how much you will love this child and each other more once the baby comes.

Great video , I have so many comments , firstly ,I remember all the people who said horror stories about pregnancy, ignore them, each pregnancy is so different , I. Had a natural birth and my baby was 11 1/2 lbs , even though she was so big , it was ok , and you honestly do forget any pain , our bodies are so amazing , you got this, secondly our girl loved sleep, she always had about 12 hours a day ,yes that was broken up with feeds to start with , but it's not as bad as you think , then we home educated her , and it was amazing , we got to spend every day with her , watching her grow into an amazing person , we could concentrate on what she was interested in and make learning fun , when she was 15 she went to the local college where she got all her qualifications,so everything is possible, gear your experience around what you want for your family , don't be told how life will be, because it's what you make it , and enjoy every moment , it's wonderful xxx
