@@OWNORDISOWN I've watched (the?) two of your Omen 17 videos and you said it was an all-aluminum build, and Bob over here says the same. However, any written review I could find outside of youtube( such as notebookcheck and extremetech) say only the deck was metal, and everything else - plastic. I'd assume the laptops you and they reviewed are the same(Omen 2019, reviews done in last 4 months of 2019) What could the reason for this difference be? Are Omen 17 and Omen 17t different things?

@@HristoskoBG the previous Omen has a red X on the lid. I have the Omen 15t as my daily driver and I assure you it is aluminum. Same as the Omen x2s, that one fell off my desk, landed on a metal table leg and folded the corner of the lid. It was 100% metal. I have a photo I can send you if you want .Perhaps you can ask those other sites to see why they said it was plastic ?

We need more MUX! Unfortunately it’s going in the other direction. It wasn’t too long ago a big channel posted their review on one of the Legion laptops and didn’t even talk about it.

I also own this similar OMEN 15 but the one with lower panel framerate 144Hz (dh0105tx one). The overall looks is absolutely elegant, aluminum chassis are awesome & the design got simpler yet classier than the 2018 OMEN model. Unfortunately, my units got returned TWICE by HP because of its misproduction defects. The first one was the LCD frame peeling off just right after i unbox it, and the second one has broken F4 button (super mushy button). For HP to make mistakes two times (eventhough i got replacement products from them) i just started doubting HP’s durability & build quality of their products. Hoping that my third unit is safe and well since it’s still on shipping status..

Any heat issues if you don't use external fan?

@@htooaungwin3417 not really necessary, but it could boost your temperature slightly, the basic of owning a new gaming laptop is you have to undervolt it or it will heat up even on idle Download throttlestop and watch the tutorial on how to use it Set it up until you found the sweetspot

Actually I have about 50+ deals videos that I’ve made over the last year or two. Unfortunately I make a few hundred bucks a month from YT, it’s that bad. I’d happily do more here but I cannot afford the time as I still have my main occupation seven days a week.

The 2060 seems to run cooler. But if it were me I’d replace the paste. I’ve seen paste out of the factory dried up or off center. Not a big deal as this level of maintenance could be done 1-2 times per year to maximize thermal efficiency. It’s like oil in your car, it’s not going to last forever.

As weird as this may sound that’s how gaming laptops work. They’re meant to be gamed on when plugged in and then take them with you when you need a portable computer. If they could run at full load unplugged the batteries would be toast in probably 15 minutes. It will create a lot of heat and ultimately a lot of swelled cells inside of many laptops.

Why these two? What about them both has your interest? If you don’t need a laptop that has exceptional battery life then I wouldn’t be looking at laptops with big batteries because they do tend to sacrifice other things.

Hi dude, If you can not wait or just want to play modern games or edit photo/video nicely and save some cash, this omen with i7 9750h and any video card like gtx1660 or higher, is gonna nail it. You can find it from 1000 bucks easily. However, if you can and want to spend around 1700 to 2000 bucks and want the last tech because you are NASA engineer and need a 20% faster laptop, buy the new amd series processors. This is about your wallet and your needs as final costumer. Give it a thought.

Hello, how long does the battery last on regular use (tabs, word etc.)? Is it also usable with lower brightness and how long does it last then? Also, do you know the weight of the power supply?

​@@g_stou I got it second hand and lasts around 2 - 3 hours. Not the best but I'm happy with it. Yes, you can definitely use it with the lowest brightness level with no problems, however I haven't used it on battery like this, so I don't know how many hours you are going to get. About the power supply weight, I dont know exactly how much is it, but I think it's like 500-600 grames.

Well for starters you just follow my tutorial and turn your laptop to the best of its ability. Who knows where we are going to be in the near future as far as the ability to do that anyway. Also, when you are wattage limited reducing the voltage doesn’t decrease the temperatures but it increases the frequency which kind of showcased in a way with the benchmarks.

Andrei Ovidiu I don’t recommend that at all. You can see how hot it gets beyond 45w

I have the i9 / 2080 MQ version. I reviewed it on my channel. You can also get a 2070MQ. The 17" has 2070MP and 2080MP options

Damian Ramirez same question? Because i have same model and after i made stress test the clock drop to 3.2 and gave me power limit throttle. I don't know how can i hold 4 to 3.8 GHz all time.

@@mramo11 No, at least it doesn't feel to hot. I do keep the laptop slightly elevated. Come summer a cooling pad might be necessary? I'll see. I'll take temps later when I'm gaming and I'll report back.

And are you happy with it? Is the cooling laoud? I think to buy one or a rog 3.. But my fav is HP.

Meizu Mikki Video rendering is more CPU-based. I find the quality of the render to be better versus using hardware acceleration anyway. You can easily get by with just about any GPU.

You just need an awesome Cpu like intel 9750h or amd 4800h and ram, much ram like 16gb minimum. For video card, from gtx 1650 you will be good.

​@@BobOfAllTrades Thank you for the prompt reply brother, so on a regular day i need a triple monitor setup for work and the software that I am required to use arent graphic intensive but they hog a lot of ram and processor at all times so I dont really need a high end graphics card but a i7-H is a must because my current on the go laptop is a 4th gen i7-U and working on this system when I am away from my workstation is a nightmare. Now what really got me interested in zenbook pro duo was the extra display and the odd placement of the mouse which doubles as a numeric keypad just seems so ergonomically well placed. The extra display will certainly help me on the go by offering the extra real estate for the data I need to refer to for analysis. I work in the capital markets so I need to have multiple charts and tickers (amongst other software and live news feed) open simultaneously at all times. The options I was considering was the g7 but seemed quite overpriced for what they are offering compared to ASUS and the next logical choice is Omen dh-0135TX (now I know that the configuration is no where close to the zenbook pro but zenbook is only 2 spec options for 15 inch model). I was convinced about the omen and bought one after seeing your review in nov-dec 2018 but I was unfortunate enough to get the lg panel and I have to say it wasn't a pleasant experience (also the juvenile red accents on the back wasnt fun to look at either) so i got rid of it soon and went back to my Lenovo Z50-70. Your review helps a lot in making the right choice so getting your opinion on ASUS zenbook pro duo would give me confidence abt its build and performance coz this will be my daily go to laptop for the next 5 years (and this ones not cheap :-( ) Sorry about the long read brother.

It’ll depend on the laptop and its bios. I see these things get changed often. Just try it and see. You’ll typically have more luck lowering the numbers vs increasing them.

@@BobOfAllTrades it's an Omen 2019 i7 2070 Laptop and I did not find anything regarding CPU clock in the BIOS. I lowered clock speed to 3600 because the CPU gets really hot while playing shadow of the tomb raider (and it doesn't need to get that hot, when I'm at 3600 it's still working fine). I was wondering if lowering the wattage for the turbos will get me anything besides lowering the clock speed. Thanks for your reply!

I’m not sure. I don’t own any external monitors and if I had to place a bet I would say the 1660 TI is also directly connected to the display. But I would not feel comfortable about telling you to buy one until you knew for sure.

@@BobOfAllTrades The 1660ti model doesn't have Optimus either, I know it for a fact, I've reached customer support to ask for it because I'm really interested in this laptop and I don't need RTX graphics. The GPU IS directly connected to the display, so I guess it could have fast sync.

You can, I charge my phone usually.

It’ll be a different model sku then. This was a direct link to the laptop reviewed per HP.

You can change to any color and change the brightness for the four zones. Also it is possible to turn off the keyboard lights and also possible to use single colour. All of which can be changed by editing the settings at Omen command center.

Crazy Q I can tell you the idle acoustics on this laptop were fantastic no pun intended. Don’t you have a switch in the bios you could toggle to maybe shut those off or minimize it? It wasn’t something I felt like looking into much to be honest because it never ramped up and annoyed me when I used it around the house unplugged.

LAL Not sure. The ESC key on the MAX 17 I recently noticed feels slightly different to me. I know we’re talking about two different laptops but anything is possible. I didn’t notice any discrepancies with this Omen when I had it for review. It was a factory sealed unit too.

@@BobOfAllTrades Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I took the key caps off from TAB key and an other, I found, in deed the metal levers are different. I don't quite understand why HP designed it this way, but it's interesting to find out.

Optimus v Dedicated. The MAX will be thinner, lighter and a larger battery. I love laptops that have their dedicated GPU directly connected to its display. But it really comes down to those two things. Technically magnesium alloy will be hard to beat for built quality right now but the higher end Omens like the one I recently reviewed was built very well!

Thanks man. For real. My buddy was all in on Max 17 for those very reasons. Iv really been liking the omen 17 coz I think they are built very well. But the max having a bigger battery and being thinner and lighter is pretty convincing coz I do have to carry it around every day

What about the thermal issue with full RTX 2070?

Throttle stop. Go to voltage control tab and middle right corner under the table there is a check box. You need to install a file though.

That’s up to you but you should know that the 500 has its motherboard flipped upside down so maintenance and upgrades won’t be fun.

Expect the MAX 17 to be more of a laptop with Optimus, large batter and lightweight. That Omen is great for those who are willing to sacrifice those things to get away from Optimus making it feel more at home coming from a desktop.

Ben Richards that’s so weird man, maybe you had a bad paste job and should look into a repaste. I’ve hit 90 for a split second on an extreme stress test but that was without a mild undervolt. I guess that’s the luck of the pc lottery if you can call it that though but stay positive man and try and some options that could lower those temps

@@BobOfAllTrades I've seen the same computer with the same internals, only difference is the lid hinges are 1 on each side on 1 and then the other has the 2 hinges more inward.

Mickey S Now that I’m thinking about it more, the bottom panel is different too. The rear vents on the previous model come off separately and the newer chassis is one piece. Overall it just felt more compact. As least that’s how I recall the previous one. It’s been awhile since I’ve had it in hand so sorry if I’m mistaken.

@@BobOfAllTrades Yeah i've had a hard time deciding between the OMEN and the Dell G series / Alienware. I always have thought the Alienware had a cool factor but your paying more for the name obviously.
