HSE: Gamzee Makara - Pt. 3/3 - Rage Powers? 

For some reason I expect a Homestuck play where Gamzee just ran out of pie and he walks on stage confused and he sees the crowd and shots “WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE” and they laugh and he says “why are you laughing? WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING?” And it starts to scare the audience as he becomes self aware.

If Hope is belief and possibility, than Rage is the collapse of possibilities into one certainty. All possible Gamzees collapsed into one.

I like to imagine that the reason we don't see any Gamzees in any of the dream bubbles is because they're all partying together in one bubble, having the sickest gathering of the Juggalos in Paradox Space. :o)

I have the feeling if the trolls session was "normal" then gamzees role was to sutlely help each players to grow withing their game given roles and to destroy any larp created roles. This might even be used to help their page dstroy said persona/mask he trys to make. This might explain Gamzee liking Tavros?????????

If Hope is the Aspect of people who wish to make reality like fiction, then Rage is the Aspect of those who wish to make fiction like reality.

Actually, it seems for me that explanation beyond lack of Gamzee's ghosts is even easier. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a person don't actually die in the doomed timeline they don't become a ghost, they cease to exist. This also could explain, why there isn't that many Meenah's and Aranea ghosts - they just died less often. There IS one thing that bothers me about Gamzee not having even one ghost. His dreamself. Thanks for Jadesprite we know for a fact that if dreamself die it would produce separate ghost. And thanks for [S] Terezi: Remem8er we know that even dying and being ressurected as a dreamself and dying on questbed and assending to godtier would also produce a ghost. So Gamzee SHOULD have one ghost no matter what: right now he had only one body, because he dreams in dreambubbles. That mean that his other body died. And it should leave a ghost. Yeah, Gamzee is a really frustrating fella.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice the connection Rage has with Theater! I actually was working on a fan adventure with some friends in 2016 with trolls based off the Greek gods. Without thinking about it, I made Dionysus, the god often associated with theater and religious things, as a purple blood.

I'm definitely on board with Rage as Contrivance and Gamzee, as the Bard of Rage, being a person to let that contrivance fall apart and expose itself for what it is around him, tying back into the fact that even the *author* can't make in-universe sense of him. I should watch all of Tex Talks's stuff. "...to wrap up remaining plot threads and bring the story to a close." Are we *sure* Hussie is a Deus Ex Machina parallel? Actually no he references this several times (appearing as Hussiebot the first time he meddles in the story, doing basically this for Dancestor characterizations when you find him in Openbound, etc.) I just found it funny how deliberately he does NOT do this and the fact that everyone complains about it. And yes, I remember the idea that all the doomed Gamzees take a nap and return to the Alpha as Davesprite Timeline Rose did. I think it was in one of your Medium articles. I'm not positive if that ties into Rage specifically or it it's just a Doomed Timeline game mechanic Gamzee takes advantage of. After all, Rose does the same thing. And she types in Rage/Gamzee purple. And has a notably short temper, and is dedicated to tearing down the artifice of Sburb to find a truth she can believe in. ... Huh. I'm gonna put a post-it on that train of thought. So if Gamzee can wear any mask and wield any tool, does that make him a wild card? A joker, in other words? Am I referencing card games or Persona? I've already forgotten.

i just feel so sad about gamzee tho bc he was probably going through withdrawal from running out of slime to eat but everyone just seems to think "oh here comes his REAL personality huh" when like.. man. the kid needed support and help and only karkat was there for him. im not saying he isnt a bloodthirsty monster because holy shit, he absolutely is, just that hes a kid with a harmful addiction too. like... idk man. im just sad about him. the little clown was done so dirty... :'o(

The greater Hussieverse is a wonderful example of "Order from Chaos" in action. The man throws out ideas on the mind like Jackson Pollock threw paint at a canvas, and our own native compulsion to find patterns and make sense of the world has largely done the rest for him. If there's anything that embodies the concept of Rage being "discontent with the confusion and contrivance of the Way Things Are" within Homestuck and its growing family of media, it's the fact that many (MANY) people simply can't accept that he doesn't apparently care as much as they want him to... ...and so apparently random elements cluster and click, one-off references embed themselves in the meta-narrative and become the germ of mythical/cultural/memetic elements that grow and evolve into full-blown interlocking systems and mechanics of both the 'crunch' and the 'fluff' of the game/story. Obviously the meat of it was an interactive process since feedback on every element of the thing was available to him before the greater whole was even anything *like* complete, so there's more than a little inspired grooming and shepherding involved, but by and large I think most of what's come to pass for (and look a hell of a lot like) deliberate planning was just a combination of happy accidents and the fandom compulsively filling in the gaps, something Hussie seems to encourage with gleeful and infuriating abandon.

So, each bloodcaste has an instinctual Aspect that they're DRAWN to, even if it's not the one they're BOUND to? Hmmmm.... I like the Aspect Analysis here; you should do some more like this one. It intrigues me very much "starry eyes"

I guess that it this clears my understanding of how Rage and Hope are opposites to each other. Just as your example with the Deus Ex Machina; in a story sense, Rage seems to be the single answer ending that ties everything up in a knot so there can be no confusion, despite how that can invoke anger or joy; whereas Hope leaves an open ended story to invite the possibility that it could be leading to a better future for the protagonists of the story. Then again, I could be wrong.

I was hesitant to have role-playing as other classes be a Rage feature at first, but then I remembered that role-playing outside of one's natural role is an inherently self destructive act as far as Sburb is concerned, and that not only sounds like a great ability for Bards (who destroy themselves) but also for Rage which is about destroying plot contrivinces and narrative tropes. Actually, that brings into light the inherent self destructiveness of Bard and Prince classes, both of whom have characters who are able to play into other roles without the dangers that other characters face. (Perhaps because destroying their role... is their role.) It especially fits for Bards, since the typical RPG Bard is a Jack of All Trades who can fill in everyone's shoes a little, but isn't the best at any of it. It's a neat tangent to think about, and I'm glad I watched this video!

I just remember that the rage page on the extended zodiac said something about rage players having a mask for every occasion so you might be on to something.

I kind of like how the "last man standing" mechanic can function as kind of a "Selfish Scratch" if what we've seen with Rose and what's implied with Gamzee. Session go to shit? Kill every other player and then take a nap. Part of your memory will merge with another/the alpha timeline's version of you and so a part of you gets to live on AND your alpha/alternate timeline version has some need extra knowledge. Kind of like someone replaying a game but taking different options.

It would be an interesting idea if Rage players have some connection playing certain roles that involves multiple people around them. Be it actors on stage, players in sports, a student president for their school if Lynera's interpretation of being a self proclaimed honor roll is the case, and many others. Marvus' sign is hidden, but the bullet points for him say he runs some sort of "shitshow" and a Midsummer Nightmare, the latter referring to the Shakespeare play, Midsummer's Dream. With live streaming on sites like Grubetube having mentioned in Hiveswap and shown they exist, starting in Vol 1 with Ardata, I have a feeling one Internet celebrity in the Hiveswap world, having almost the whole planet being their audience, will be part of the Rage class.

This is so so SO late but the talk about The Ultimate Self being the ideal form of a character and Gamzee's doomed timeline selves all merging with him makes me wonder if that means Gamzee transcended to being his ultimate self once all those alt selves merged with him That would explain his sudden transition into the "fake" god tier :O

A very nice look into what Rage powers mean for the flow of the story and it's inner workings, as well as how the Ragebound Hiveswap trolls connect to the aspect. I'm sure we'll get even more insight to the aspects through the interactions and story arcs of the Hiveswap trolls through the Friendsims and the next acts of Hiveswap.

My young brother is a heir of rage, and one thing we do (since childhood) is roleplay, and i gotta say, he's kinda bad at it, but his *acting* has *inspired* me with my own creations. Man, this is scary.

Speaking of ACT 2... It's still supposed to be released this Spring, which is almost over now. My predictions: *Launch Trailer: 6/12* It's the date Hivebent started. It's a Tuesday this year. _For reference: ACT 1's launch trailer was also released on a Tuesday. Hivebent is a segment in Homestuck that focuses heavily on Alternia and the trolls, like ACT 2 will._ *Game Release: 6/15 - 3 days later* It's the last Friday of this Spring. WP always releases their games on Fridays. _For reference: ACT 1 was also released on a Friday, 3 days after its launch trailer was uploaded._

You touched on Maids and how they have forms of self-resurrection, I think it's important to note that both Kanaya and Aranea also perform feats of self-resurrection too. Kanaya which as you've mentioned on another video into her Rainbow Drinker form which made her more effective at traversing space, and Aranea into her alive form which made her more effective at manipulating light (in terms of the importance of the doomed session.) Both events of resurrection are followed by times where the Sylph's actions dominate the narrative through the use of their aspect and biological powers. (May also be relevant to note that Kanaya and Aranea's resurrections involve their bodies burning in some way, with very similar framing.)

I wonder if bards are simply more apt for emulating other classes, since their name is performance, and gamzee more so than other bards, if rage is contrivance

I think that a way to check if you have a quality character is seeking their classpect and seeing how deep they can get in it.

I personally can’t help but wonder if the Bard class has anything to do with role playing, as it itself is a reference to performance. Plus I’m fairly sure that the classes all have a sort of not-so obvious rule to them, like Witches having familiars, heirs seeming to inherit something, etc. I’m so curious as to what the Bard’s equivalent is, and the Princes but that’s mostly because I am one lol.

Your idea that all of Gamzee's imitations/roleplays are 'abominations' was so interesting and it gave me a terrible idea: Knight of Rage: You can easily argue that he's a knight the whole way through for Lord English and all his endeavors, because he always acts in the service to his god, once he realizes who he is. Maid of Rage: As a healer for himself, he uses the maid's ability to passively remake himself, even though he's literally got to walk around with a bloody and hole-y body because, once more, his copy-cat tendencies are an abomination (hehe, hole-y, cuz he worships a demon god) Mage of Rage: Your videos put mage in the active Know category, though an alternative idea is that mages actively create their aspect in some way. For creation, Gamzee most certainly makes his friends feel rage, but it's not a righteous one at injustice, rather it is a terrible one directed at him for all he's done. In this way, we can say that he actively 'knows the rage' of his friends and fellow trolls. Thief of Rage: This is more of a byproduct of his physiology as an indigo-blood, but Gamzee is incredibly strong, even without doing any sort of physical exercise for the majority of his life (as evidenced by his consumption of Sopor). He is easily able to overpower and break Nepeta's fighting spirit, as well as Equius' resistance, even though both of them have been extremely active people for their entire lives (Nepeta hunts all of her food, Equius literally puts WWE personalities and Gap models to shame). He steals people's ability to rebel against him by being so fucking physically powerful and resilient, as well as goddamned annoying. Prince of Rage: Whenever he kills people like a fucking madman unit, destroying through rage. He also destroyed his own rage when he was eating his pies. Witch of Rage: He changes things, of course without any cool magic, but he transforms blood obtained through horrific acts of murder into 'potions' for Jane to buy off him. Witches make potions, don't they? Seer of Rage: He quite litearlly sees revelations in Lil Cal. He's achieved The Truth. He's blind to anything other than an extremely powerful influence (karkat, but even that runs out). And since Seer's see for others, he makes sure to communicate his revelations. Sylph of Rage: As a healer through rage, Gamzee revived his friends by prototyping them. Of course, each and every single one of these sprites ended up hurting the viewer (and in most cases, the people involved in the sprites) by the end (nefeta and feferi are probably too good of heart to not be able to coexist comfortably, though perhaps their fused body would give them regret, as they would never be able to be with their respective loved ones, even under trollian quadrants. Regret and frustrations are types of rage). *Page of Rage: Has a slow buildup to a terribly powerful potential, that of being a literal destructive manchild god * Rouge of Rage: gives the beta kids (steals rage for others) shitty childhoods by warping their minds, a notable effect of this is how John's father had to struggle with a sweet child who had behavioral issues and drew unsettling (if not outright scary) clowns on the wall. Dave also had to suffer because his brother was made into an abusive maniac by Lil Cal, who is also Gamzee. Bard of Rage: Gamzee in his natural state (perhaps, if he's revived in the new world, he'll become a real bard, telling stories of the adventure to the inhabitants of the new world so the terrible things they endured won't happen again, therefore destroying horrible legacies through the story of rage he tells) (alternatively, Gamzee also acts as a Bard when he invites Terezi to kill Vriska, filling her with Rage as a sort of Buff. He also Buffs himself with Rage whenever he fights) Heir of Rage: He is the heir to Lord English's legacy, and paradoxically (and therefore, an abomination) his being. He changes to become LE in the most passive way possible, as half of his corpse gets unwittingly dragged into Lil Cal via the powers of Dirk Lord of Rage: When 'gamzee' matures to become Lord English, becoming the most active incarnation of rage imaginable Muse of Rage: what was left behind, half of a dead body which cannot feel emotions, as it is dead

The roleplay thing you said explains so fucking much in my personality, im a Heir of Hope that roleplayed a Knight way too much and most of the time it ended in suffering for me, turned out my dad is a Knight and even though his connection to me is weaker compared to my mom, a Rogue, i still end "roleplaying" him. After a while i noticed my roleplay and im trying to stop but im not even sure of my progress

I feel like you're making a slight oversight of the aspect system. There's no proof that the "True" signs are any different than the normal signs. The only reason they are labeled "True" on the website is so we know that we are truly the sign and not just a fluked test. That's a human bias issue, as we couldn't see the true signs as the same as any of the other hundreds. We already know the current signs all too well, so we are predetermined to think those are higher. In reality, Leo and Lescer for example are equal signs. (Those are just two signs i remembered off the top of my head) As for the purplebloods being bound to Rage with the clown motif, that's just a quirk of troll society. in troll society, Purplebloods are famous for their Juggalo nature. It's not a rage thing, but rather a caste thing. Just like how most yellowbloods have colored eyes, or how rustbloods are drawn to the dead.

it’s kinda interesting, a bard “ Inspires destruction through rage” and through his harassment of john with clowns caused him to prototype said harlequins, and through that giving the moons clown shit, causing jack to become *enraged* and ascend. in a way, his inspiration of rage set in play the creation of jack noir, and nearly dooming everything.
