My all time favorite quote he says in the Hunger Games is, “It’s the things we love most that destroy us.” One of my brothers and are obsessed with repeating it, lol! 😅
I wished that they'd kept Madge in the films. Even though her role was minor, she still was a great friend to Katniss, and it gave her someone else to confide in.
I love those characters who subvert the snobby rich girl stereotype Like you can be the most spoiled girl yet be a 3 dimensional character with character traits other than “mean and bossy”
A tremendously talented actor and a humble and kind man, a true gentleman. The world mourns his passing. 88 years was just not long enough. RIP Donald Sutherland.
Another thing they cut: Delly Cartwright. The girl that visited a hijacked Peeta in 13. Replacing her with Prim in that scene was utterly mind boggling, since they specifically chose Delly because, while she was familiar to Peeta, her presence wasn't likely to trigger him with memories of Katniss.
Not only that. But when Katniss recognised the female avox in the first book (recognising her from when she was out illegally hunting in the woods), Peeta immediately covered for her (as you're not meant to know avoxes) and said the avox looked like Delly Cartwright.
Regarding Prim, I agree and it's a really big plot hole in terms of how the film handled that because Prim is WAY to close to Katniss and would absolutely be a trigger for Peeta. Other than Delly, I would have picked someone else like Hazelle (Gale's mother and someone who isn't that familiar to Peeta), but she and Gale's siblings were cut out of the films so that wouldn't have worked. I'm trying to think who else could have done it in terms of the characters they already had for the films cause as far as everyone else, they are a bit too close to Katniss that would cause triggers to Peeta immediately (Haymitch, Effie, Finnick, Beetee, etc.) 😅
@@Lauren_210 Oh that's a shame, if they added characters families it could've explained a lot. and Peeta's siblings as well: I forgot that he had any siblings and it could make it even more painful for him seeing Katniss having a close relationship with her siblings. It was always sweet yet heartbreaking seeing gale's relationship with his family and how he supported them eg extra names in the reaping in exchange for tesserae. He put himself at risk so his family could be adequately fed.
Its sad to know that at the end of the next Hunger Games film, it will be in memory of Donald Sutherland. May he rest in peace. His amazing performance as one of the best Sci-fi villains will never be forgotten 🙏🏾🕊❤

Especially with the passing of Donald Sutherland who portrayed President Snow in the film they will never be another one like him he will live on in the films including the the adaptation of The hunger games he will live on forever in them
As someone who read the books first, I can’t help but see Donald Sutherland’s face when thinking of President Snow. Such a perfect casting of an incredible actor. RIP.
FWIW Peeta's leg was reinjured when the Mutts attacked. Katniss was compelled to use her last arrow as a Tourniquet. Later on Katniss used that arrow to end Cato's suffering at the hands of the Mutts. Peeta's leg was bleeding profusely when they were holding the berries. In the books, Katniss feels enormous guilt because it was either her improper use of the tourniquet, or her removing of it that resulted in Peeta losing his leg...
@@WorldedGGGG I mean her name can be interpreted in many ways For one definition, it is the name of a shrub known for medicinal purposes. Some characters are named after nature. Another definition can also mean regret over an event. I guess the best interpretation of that definition is Katniss feeling some guilt and regret over Rue’s death. But that’s just my theory I’m not the best at literary analysis and the reading subject in general
One thing from the ballad of songbirds and snakes that wasn't in the film was the extensiveness of snows hatred for the mockingjay birds right from the beginning. In the book he goes on and on about how much he hates them. Also the mission to capture the jabberjays and the mockingjays to send back to the capital, which was led by this one scientist he saw in dr. gaul's lab one time, wasn't really covered that much. That mission took weeks and he really got to learn a lot about the birds during that time, which only intensified his hatred. In the books the irony and connection to katniss and her portrayal as the mockingjay and his hatred for the bird and the district and all those little connections, it's so good! Gives a lot of layers and insight and just full circle moments.
I thought it was interesting bc there was a deleted scene where district 11 did give Katniss bread. I really wish that they used it in the film! I also wish that on the first film they kept in the part where Cato begged Clove to stay with him when she died in his arms. It really would have shown that careers do have feelings, they just don’t show them.
Yes their are minor differences but compared to some fandoms that leave gaping plot holes I am pretty satisfied. Sure there are improvements to be made but these movies are top tier and many differences feel nitpicky.
I cannot wait for the new book and movie! Finally we get Haymitch's story and the 50rh Hunger Games. Love your videos....i clicked on this so damn fast!!
Maybe not as exciting of a tidbit but the friendship that developed between Cinna and Katniss. After the first games they would have long phone calls and he became a confidant. Which is why it was even more brutal what they did to him right before the 75th games started.
As you said in your Life of Haymitch video Mesa Lee (or however her name is spelled) worked as a team with Haymitch but as the number of remaining tributes continue to dwindle she knew they would have to fight each other eventually and she didn't want either of them to die at the hands of the other so she parted ways with him. Her death devastated him in some ways but he chose to carry on in her honour. I like the humanization of Cato and Clove. It shows that even though the Career tributes were in favour with the Capital, they were still victims for having to follow everything the Capital tells them, and just how evil President Snow was throughout his tenure as Capital president. This man could easily have been the trilogy's equivalent to Satan, even if President Coin turned out to be more evil by the series' end.
Loved the video. Leaving Madge out of the first movie irked me as it changed the significance of the pin. Leaving Bonnie and Twill out of the second out of the second book makes the District 13 reveal at the end jarring and a bit confusing since I don't remember if it was mentioned at any other point in the film. Did you mention Katniss and Gale seeing their first avox being captured outside District 12? And the awkward relationship they had leading up to the games?
Peeta lost his leg because he got mauled by the mutts when he and Katniss were climbing the cornucopia at the end, not because of Cato. Katniss had to use one of her arrows for a tourniquet once they got up onto the cornucopia because Peeta was bleeding so badly.
1:03 i cried when u read about the bread. Especially with it explaining that with how expensive it would have been especially at that point in the games(the gifts for more and more expensive with each passing day) katniss knew it has to be the whole of district 11 that sent it. All of them pulling all their money together just to send her some bread as a thank you(she suspects also that it was originally going to go to rue but with her passing decided to send it to her instead as a thank you instead of just saying nevermind and using the money for other things)
the hunger games is one of the only book series with an amazing movie adaptation (excluding tbosas probably) but the books will probably always be better.
TBOSAS should have been a 2-part movie at least as it was thickesty book it was so many of the peacekeeper interactons were missed out leaving the story lacking depth. I love the movie but it felt rushed and I wish we could have seen more of the amazing story adapted into that high quality movie.
Something they missed from the prequel was aracnes funeral, it was one of my favourite scenes and insights into the capital people and the difference between her funeral and how the escaped tributes were treated was super important
Another good one is how much of a hero Tigris actually is. It's also shown in the films that Tigirs was allways there for Snow, but in the books she was almost never sleeping because she was doing everything she could to help Snow win a prize so that they can save the apartment. Also another one is that Snow knew he was going to be a mentor in the games. I think the movie did great that they made it like a plot twist, it made things more intresting and engaged the audience.
Another good one: After killing Coin, Katniss tries to commit suicide using nightlock, but Peeta stops her. In the movie, Peeta runs up to her after she shoots the arrow that kills Coin, but if you haven't read the books, you don't actually realize he's running up to her to stop her from killing herself.
I don't recall if the movie specifies that her outfit has a compartment for the nightlock pill, but you can see her reaching for it with a look like "my work here is done." and then Peeta runs up and grabs her hand and knocks it out of her hand and then she panics as she gets restrained.
Love these! Keep them going! As for some more I can think of myself: - Sejanus's talent in marksmanship which he was taught by Strabo when he was little and had mandatory target practice every week as it was considered part of their family business. This being ironic because Sejanus leans towards pacifism and is one at heart (as well as wanting to become a medic) but has this very lethal skill where he could potentially kill someone if he could - Lucy Gray's rainbow dress used to belong to her late mother - Gale's family being entirely cut from the films (his mother, Hazelle, and his three younger siblings, Rory, Vick, and Posy) - Tigris's implied prostitution she's had to resort to in order to bring in extra money to help the family and survive, which also shows her as a victim of the Capitol as well - Haymitch deciding to take on a hobby of raising geese at the end of the trilogy - Pluribus the nightclub owner (as well as him being one of the few confirmed LGBTQ+ characters in the series where he lost his partner, Cyrus, during the war) - Barb Azure as also one of the confirmed LGBTQ+ characters (she's in the movie, but this specifically being something not mentioned in the film) - The explanation behind the funeral ritual Sejanus performs on Marcus with the bread crumbs in the arena (though we do see this moment in the film); In District 2, they pour bread crumbs on the body of the deceased to wish them a peaceful transition into the afterlife with food on their journey
The one thing I can think of that you omitted was that Katniss spent a LOT of the 74th and 75th games in the buff… the books do a lot from the prospective of the game makers and how they couldn’t show her because she was nude!
Since I'm a bookworm and Hunger Games fan, I take pride that I already knew all these facts. I hope Hunger Games fans that only watched the movies will finally be motivated to read the books thanks to this video. Keep up the great work, Morgan!
Hey wassup Morgan, hope you doing Well, keep it up I always love your content. Can you do a video of the Life time of dumbeldore? Sending love from italy
Another character and detail that was in the books but cut out in the movies was, Delly Cartwright helping Peeta remember his good memories of Katniss.
The only other thing I can think of: Plutarch Heavensbee having the Mockingjay symbol on his pocket watch that he showed to Katniss during the President's Ball
I liked that between the 74th and 75th Hunger games Peeta, Katniss and Hamitch all trained for the 75th. The book Katniss and Peeta worked on to identify different plants. She would find them or describe them and Peeta would draw them. My favorite of the ones you mentioned was the goat Lady. She comes back into the story when Katniss got trapped outside the fence and broke her foot jumping to get back in and she needed an excuse why she was so late getting home.
I have a theory connecting lady the goat to the ballad of songbirds and snakes. When Katniss sees lady she says she belonged to the “goat man”, who is described as old and someone who raises herds of goats. During the songbirds and snakes book, one of the covey (idk who) talks about their goat and talks about a prospect of getting a female goat to start a whole herd. I believe these 2 district 12 members are the same person. Likely after shows were banned in the hob, the covey might have held together for a few years but would have eventually split up. Maud ivory likely was katniss’s grandmother but the one who talked about the goat and likely the one who kept it would have started a herd and eventually become the goat man
I was hoping you would make a video explaining the differences between the book and movies, Thank you. I would like to add about Gail’s mother Hazelle cleaning Haymitchs house.
I'm pretty sure Peeta lost his leg because of the mutts slicing his calf open. Cato cut his thigh. Katniss put the tourniquet on right below the knee and it was his lower leg that was amputated. If I misunderstood your comment I stand corrected but I'm pretty positive it was the mutts and not Cato that caused the injury leading to amputation.
i thought that the wolf mutts weren’t MADE from the tributes but made to resemble them, because didn’t Katniss mention they shipped the tributes back “in a wooden box” or was that just what she assumed happened?
I know I’ve said this like a million times, but if you ever start reacting to fan films, you NEED to watch the 53rd Hunger Games film as it’s SO GOOD and I love their characters!
I suppose when I was in second grade, I shouldn’t have listened to the hunger games books because I cried every time a death would happen. I mean I’m older now, but I don’t think I should’ve been listening to those books in such a young grade. Ruse. Death was probably the hardest for me and wow, the movies sure did leave out a lot even about. Our favorite MC.
I want Suzanne Collins to make a book about the first quarter quell that must have been so brutal to vote to tributes from your district into the hunger games
Honestly, even though it was sad to see Cato holding Clove's dead body, but I was so glad to see Thresh kill Clove when I read the book. Thresh became my favorite when he avenge Rue and let Katniss go to honor Rue.
Can you maybe also do a every difference between the books and movies of the hunger games like you did with Harry Potter? Also will the breakdown thing ever be finished?
Katniss’s dad not being included in the movies was a big missed opportunity. There’s a lot of stuff I’m glad they didn’t take from the books, but Katniss’s dad in particular could have been a great detail in the movies
