I read the book when it came out in 2013 and loved it. She is such an inspiration and a true hero. The more people hear and know about her story, the better. Thanks for making this video! :)
I have the first version of the book and I loved it. We're Pakistani American and my mothers very enthusiastic about learning about Malala and her message, so she bought it
I don't know what the difference between the young person and normal version, but I read the normal version and it was fantastic. I think "inspiring" is an over used word but genuinely applies to her. And like you said, you don't need background knowledge. I knew nothing about that area of history before reading it but it was so accessible and so interesting. Definitely a must read!
I had the chance to see and listen to Malala speak at the Edinburgh Book festival last year and it was so emotional and inspiring. She's a wonderful person and just so amazing!
I really want to read this book, I am going to get it next time I am in waterstones. Thanks for reviewing it and giving me a good recommendation of a book to read x
We actually learned about Malala and watched her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in English class, I hope to be able to read the book sometime soon.
I read the first edition of this book and it was so inspiring and I was blown away at Malala and her bravery it nearly had me in tears I wish more people knew about her because even though she is younger than me she still is a role model, girls and boys need to be looking up to people like her than reality tv stars. x
Reading this book was inspirational, Malala's experience is one that should be talked about continuously. Even if you're not particularly political, I recommend reading this! This book is just..so important. Thank you for talking about it Candice, I wouldn't of bought it and read it and learnt about it if you hadn't.
I haven't read this but watched the documentary this week and it seems to cover a lot of the same ground. It's great to see more of an insight into how she lives too. Great review Candice!
I've wanted to read this book for a while, but I haven't found it in any bookshops near me, yet. I have a book I would like to recommend, it's called 'All The Bright Places' and is written by Jennifer Niven. I really like all your book reviews videos, and I generally like all your videos!
I'm in the middle of reading this, I broke my heart when she spoke of how much she feared her school being closed. It makes me feel bad for how I took my education for granted. We all moaned about having to go to school but Malala shows how lucky we are! What an inspirational young woman.
This has been on my to read list for so long I almost forgot about it! Thank you so much for this review, I need to make sure I pick it up the next time I'm at a bookshop.
I read the first version last summer and loved it! It was very imformative and made me realise how important education is, and that it shouldn't be taken for granted. Great review Candice :)
This is my absolute favourite book! I'm so glad that she came out with a teen addition, because I would like my younger cousins to be educated on these things.
Hello !! I really want to read this book because i've already read a version called "The story of Malala" (I don't know if this book is available in english !!). This is a version that children can read, and there's even pictures in it !! :) So I think it would be pretty interesting to read this "growing up" version !! :D
This is definitely on my reading list. What an amazing young woman! It's a good reminder how much we take education for granted in our country as well. Because it's (comparatively) so accessible we just don't value it in the same way.
Yaaaay I heard that the other version is a bit long and doesn't sound like it's written by her at all, so I'm v excited to read this! I hate reading with pressure though so that's annoying that there'll be a movie haha
I have the first edition that came out in 2013 but I'm intrigued by the newer edition.. I might prefer the writing style if it's aimed more at my age group (I'm 17). but then I'm broke so maybe not.. lovely review candice!! xx
Remember that if your library does not yet have the book most libraries have a place where you can suggest books for them to buy! Ask your local friendly librarian about it.
Why are both paperbacks so cheap on amazon.co.uk?? :O I think I'll buy the ebook of the first version, I've been meaning to read it for years but never got round to do it. I lost count of the books I read because of your recommendations by the way, the publishing companies that send you books should be happy to know.
a grain of brown sugar taste the same as any other one but it just stands out, so why not sweeten your tea with more than one grain that just simply got your attention
I would love to read that book but I find it difficult to read biographies and autobiographies . I tried to read "Donals mountain" but I couldn't even get half way through it even though there is a page about my dad in it. I wish I could read them type of books
How do you keep your books nice when you travel with them? In my bag they always seem to get folded or when it rains really hard they are ruined thanks to the rain.
+Nynke de Haan Good question! I generally prop them up against my laptop so they stay flat and hope for the best. My bag is mostly waterproof. They do always come back looking a little worn at the edges but I don't mind
