For my 2nd job, I'm a weekend waitress at a very popular breakfast joint. We are completely slammed on the weekends. The amount of people that start to come in at 10 am hangry, irritable and just flat out rude, is astonishing.. meanwhile, I'm fasting my entire shift.. happy and level headed as can be.

Same keto and IF here - I have pretty much stopped the cheat days - I feel so awful afterwards (and the junk cravings the next day are hellish). It's not worth it for me. I can't believe I was poisoning myself for so many years without really thinking about it, but it's no wonder so many of us are so unhealthy with the SAD/processed food so normalized within society.

Imagine if all Americans would change their eating habits - and eat healthy. No fast food, no processed food, no soft drinks, no artificial made snacks, turn to olive oil, intermediate fasting more times/week, etc. We would see a nation slim down - and well - panic from all the food producers. But .. why not?! Don't let the food industry dictate what you need to eat based on their production - tell the food industry to make healthy food!!!

Such an eye opening video. This needs to be shown to everyone! I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and I consider it a blessing is disguise. My diet throughout this pregnancy was not the worst, but definitely could have been better. Ever since I was diagnosed, I have been researching so much about the effects on processed foods/sugar, and I was just overwhelmed how I’ve been eating/drinking all this junk for YEARS. Since cutting out empty carbs/sugars the past 2 weeks, the first things I noticed were the dramatic improvement of my energy levels and sleeping habits. Sometimes I feel guilty because I would never harm my developing baby, but all that junk I did eat during first and second trimester was not helping momma or baby at all. However, I’m happy I’m on track now to achieve the most optimal health possible for myself and baby. Thanks for this video Dr. Ekberg and for speaking out on the dangers of overconsumption of highly processed foods/drinks!

Totally agree with the notion that fat is being blamed as the bad guy, when the quantity of total sugars has been ignored. I now regard total sugars, especially white sugar as POISON. It’s THE most addictive, long term damaging, highly available, cheap and difficult to avoid, legal DRUG on this planet. Fat in moderation especially other than “bad” fats has been demonised unfairly. Simply, processed food swaps fat for sugar. This “low fat” marketing is a con and I’m sick of it.

@guibox3

Well, Big Food and the government are just going by normal dietician standards. They focus only on the calories and so the responsibility lies with the people who can't control themselves. Even the nutrition world says, 'Eat whatever you want as long as you are in a caloric deficit.' So they don't feel they need to take responsibility for what foods they put out. After all, mainstream nutrition and fitness gurus all say 'CICO is all that matters', without taking into account the physiological damage these foods cause. The diet and nutrition world needs to shoulder some of the blame, not just the government and Big Food.
@JDsVarietyChannel
@JDsVarietyChannel Год назад
I really appreciate your videos and what I'm learning from them. When I started watching about two months ago I resolved to make it a habit to take more control over my diet once again, as I was feeling sluggish from not having a routine (which was leading to bad food choices) . I always get off track in the winter months because the season change from fall to winter always hits me hard (I've always struggled with SAD) and the time change wrecks me, sometimes for months. For about a month now I have been eating all my calories within an certain time window that works best for me. I started extreme with a 4 hour window, then relaxed it until I found the sweet spot (an experiment) . I settled at eating all calories from noon until 8:30 PM. This forced me to make better food choices, knowing that I need to be wise during my feeding window (increasing focus on protein and healthy fats) . It also helped stabilize my blood sugar, and I never eat a snack out of fear, because my body has adapted to the feast and famine cycle. And if I get a craving or hungry I ignore it and it passes very quickly. I'm also no longer waking up tired because I can't eat right before bed and mess up my sleep cycle. The first week or so was very hard, but I got over the hump! You have taught me a lot about fats, which has been especially helpful. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that demonizing fats caused people to greatly increase processed/concentrated sugar intake as a consequence. Even worse the sugars commonly being separated from fats and their natural complexity (high glycemic) . Growing up in the late 90's and early 2000's, the "butter is bad, cheerios are good" mentality was pumped into people. And the fat free/low calorie fad allowed companies to basically sell you less food and/or food stripped of it's nutrients a higher cost to the consumer, but at a lower production cost. Marketing genius, but one of the worst diets to ever hit the mainstream. I had a poor childhood with diet and dental hygiene and had most of my mouth reconstructed in my mid 20's (pulling teeth, titanium implants, fillings, etc...) . Until my mid 20's (I'm 34 now) I was clueless about the damage the American diet was causing. Also, I have never been overweight. I'm 5' 10" and I have never been over 145 pounds. Thin is not always healthy. I have a fast metabolism and have always been very active, yet sugar was slowly killing me. Thank-you for the great education and reminding me to keep moving forward amidst the rut I found myself in this winter.
@lives4stitching-jenniferl540
Thank you Dr! You’re advice is priceless to me. No doctor or even nutritionist will give you information like this. This has been a long and winding journey for me. I knew the added sugar and processed food was doing bad things to my body but I guess like many Americans we just ignore it and follow what our bellies want. I stopped eating sugar and high carb foods and I feel so much better now. I’ve been trying to do this for at least a year and just kept being led away by cravings. Finally I checked my glucose about a month ago and it was 139. My clothes were tight, I was not losing weight, and I felt depleted. At that point I said enough, I gotta cut out the sugar. I’m glad I finally made the leap. My glucose is under control now, clothes are much looser, lost about 9 pounds. Trying to bring my hubby around but he’s much more resistant than I was. He’s starting to see my results and maybe coming around, asking more questions.

So thank you for taking it on my behalf and helping me keep truer to the path. I think many people all over the world are brought up on the standard american diet and that diet has just gotten worse since I was a kid because of the fructose and sugar industry. My god dr. Ekberg I applaud your bravery! I’ve been on a keto diet for a year. I slipped from time to time like eating rice (I’m asian😅) or pasta when I went out with my family but that’s about it. One time I allowed myself eating ice cream with my kids and that day i ended up feeling miserable, anxious, grumpy etc. till the next day! I’m going to Vegas next month with my family for a vacation and I’m worried already 😅😢

I can suggest one place to eat in Vegas for you. Jason's Deli on Maryland Parkway has a spectacular salad bar for you and sandwiches that are very good for your family at a reasonable price. Also on Maryland parkway is a place called Paymons that has Mediterranean cuisine. I'm sure you can get something low carb there. Example Kebab and a Greek salad. For the family I really like their Chicken Parm with penne.

At a given point during this video, you said that you felt "ashamed" for having put on some weight and growing a little beer belly. While it's a totally understanable and human feeling, you just shouldn't. If anything it just shows you are a normal human being. Wich means we also can have hopes, if we work hard enough on it. Plus it partly happened while doing some tests on yourself, so that you can deliver us valuable informations. Since December 2022, I've lost 13kgs / 28,5 lbs, feel much better, have more energy , and generally speaking live a better life (the diet change is part of a much bigger lifestyle change). I don't always manage to keep a perfect keto diet, but I'm leaning forward it and manage to strictly feast/fast without much efforts. It's all thanks to you and Dr Jamnadas. I feel most grateful for what you are giving us, and wouldn't dare mock you for having an extra from time to time.

Hi Dr. Ekberg, would you consider doing content specifically on IF for women AND specifically for women with PCOS? I keep hearing that for women with regular cycles, fasting too long could be a stressor during certain periods of her cycle, but no one tells us exactly what to do without having to pay for a program. Alternately, I don’t know how such differences apply to women with PCOS who don’t have regular cycles (or cycles at all). Also, unsure if this is interrelated with adrenal fatigue, but I also heard that for those with adrenal fatigue, fasting too long is a bad idea. If you could consider making content honing in on these three areas, it would be most appreciated. Thanks so much for all you do!

I am a Carnivore for the last 6 months and was Keto for a couple of years and low carb for a year before. She looks like she is about 6 or 7 months pregnant. We both say “everyone is different and you have to do what is best for you” I can plainly see that her diet is not best but she doesn’t see it. Yes, I've lost about 6 kg, but that's all. I'm still hungry after hours of fasting (i know it's not hunger but you know what I mean), I still feel I need something to eat every 2-3 hours. I don't experience most of what majority of you describe. Almost no or slight improvements only in blood pressure, uric acid etc., with the honorable exception of the glucose level which decreased significantly (but it doesn't mean much itself.) I don't experience better memory or improvement of my cognictive functions whatsoever. I'm struggling to learn a new language just as I was 2 months ago. I'm also trying to get rid of my atopic dermatitis which I know is related to the inflammation and ill guts, especially liver and bowel. But still no improvement. All in all, it has almost no effects on me with the exception of a slight weight loss.

I noticed how much cleaner my teeth and mouth feel. It's really a nice change considering the expense of dental care. I've noticed a difference in how much I crave food when I overeat on carbs. It doesn't take much to set me off, as salty crunchy snacks are a weakness. So I just don't eat them anymore.

I love most of the food culture over here and it’s totally different from what I have ever tried. The tricky part is in the SAD diet or any food made at home they mostly have either the items and ingredients which is fully processed or junk. sometimes food made at home will have those pantry items which is also processed and named organic and directly you can pour everything into the cooking. ( like buying salsa , kimchi , pasta sauce , mayo , coconut milk etc readily from shop which all can be made at home) . Mostly in todays fast world it’s like you buy burger buns, cheese , ham , salads , beef patties etc all ready made from shop and you just organize it and heat it. With sauces all available from shop from mayo to tomato sauce , ranch and also the pasta sauce mostly nothing is made at home from scratch!!! When nothing is made from scratch at home all the food becomes a processed food. As most of the food , sauce , dips , yoghurts , juices all are from packaged food, processed ! They all have hidden sugars , preservatives and regulators. No matter if they are organic or not. If everything is cooked from scratch , with fresh ingredients things can improve!!! Health will be at best!! As a non American it’s impossible to eat SAD every single day or even once weekly It gives natural reactions like tummy issues , headache , sinus, bloating , May be acid reflux, brain fog , sugar cravings , bread / junk craving and food allergies. Eating cereals for breakfast is the worst ever ! Today eating home cooked fresh food for every meal itself causes weight gain , which needs portion control and Omad , keto or any specific diet , SAD can cause dangerous effects and I’m surprised how it’s a standard diet !!! Most surprisingly the SAD doesn’t affect or give much reactions in native local people for much longer period. Any foreigner who tries SAD as everyday diet would definitely feel off with health and digestion immediately!

I'm 33 and I'm in the best shape of my life. My best days in my 20s couldn't keep up with my 30s. I was skinny or skinny fat most of my life (5'10" 125 - 145 lbs).
