Just brought a set of 2024 P790’s 5-PW irons after a fitting they came out tops of all the other brands and I tested them all. The QI 10 was longest but the P790 felt the best.
TM were at my local range today. My 1” long 3 degrees upright Ping G’s were carrying just under 150 with a hook, P790 with 1” long MMT shafts with standard lie were consistently over 160 with a draw. I want to get fitted for Mizuno MP225s but properly tempted to pull the trigger on some P790s now.
How's it coming for you? I just ordered a set after ordering just a pw and hit it better than my QI pw then I got to looking at the lenght difference in the two and liked the lenght of the 790s through the bag instead of having the longer(lenght wise) QI's...I hope you like them and I hope they work for me if not I guess I'll have a backup!😂
Great review! Just what I needed to hear. Just been fitted for P790, and ordered a set… it’s not easy deciding what to get, your comments have made me happy I’ve made the right choice! Can’t wait to get out playing with them now ⛳️
Great review Trottie and a fabulous looking iron. I’m playing Stealth 2 which I love but might well upgrade to P790. I’m a senior handicap goes between 15-16 but know many 18-24 handicappers using the P790. This has to be the iron that can be played from single to high handicappers but also the best looking iron in golf. Couple this with a Taylormade ball a marriage in heaven.
I just got to play with the P790 today and absolutely love them. Thanks for the great video it was the reason I bought them. Oh by the way I figured Trottie was getting paid by Taylor made but they were exactly like he described them. Nothing is wrong will selling something you believe in.
So just to clarify on the 4 irons. The new club is launching around 2 degrees lower, spinning around 900 rpms less and the peak height is 10-15 feet lower and for what?? 5-10 yards more distance? If you need more ball speed than yes, look into these clubs. But the better player is going to prefer more spin and peak height so they can hold the firmer greens easier. I can hold a flat green with my 4 iron and have it spin back a little on a soft green or just roll forward a couple feet on a firmer green. Running a ball up to a green is way tougher to judge than landing a mortar round on it and having stopping power. Now some of you have to change your ball to make these clubs work for you 😂
Thats what I was thinking... you are getting less peak height and less spin for virtually no extra distance. Not to mention an iron with 4 degrees less loft is simply just gonna be harder to strike no matter how "forgiving" it may be.
Hey mate what do you think of the x100 130g shafts are people playing lighter shafts these days I’m getting 7000 rpm on a 7 iron should I be looking for a bit less to handle the wind better ? Cheers 🍻
What head is that and what's your launch? I like the 7000 number but depends on the launch and the loft on the blade. X1's are obv the OG but man they're heavy.
@@trottiegolf not sure about launch I will get it looked at but the ball has a lot of float time in the air, it would be nice to bring the ball down a bit, kbs in x flex I would lose 20 yards on a 7 iron strange isn’t it, thanks mate
I think if you're a 790 PLYR you should check them out. The Flighted CG part for me with the 770's I use in the 3i was huge. I have added a 4i in that model as a result of that tech. That part alone is worth looking at
I just want to ask how many times a round your going to need to shape a shot vs how many times a round your going to want the consistency of the forgiveness of p790-p770
Trottie, what do you think about the idea of a yearly fitting membership? Annual cost, that allows for 4 (quarterly) high level fittings with equipment changes (at no additional cost) to accommodate for swing and feel changes? With so much marketing and constant videos of new equipment along with grinders of their game people want to stay current. Especially after review videos like these but don’t want to rebuy or simply swap out heads and want a full experience of testing numbers without the “golf is expensive” restriction.
Lost me a bit on the 4 iron, lower peak height and sometimes only 1 or 2 yards longer, seems to go against what your saying on higher and landing softer
PGAT average is 160 with 113 SS..... You had to be swinging it at around 125 for a 180yd... those hollow body irons throw curve balls.. can't trust them.
With less spin and stronger lofts, the landing angle will be steeper than that of a club with more spin. With the steeper landing angle, it makes it easier it is to hold a green.
@@ianmikowski662how are you saying the P790 is steeper when his apex with his normal 4 iron was 91 feet and the P790 was 76? It’s coming into the greens lower and with less spin. Am I wrong?
@@JohnnyButtercuts I thought it was the other way around that the 790 was higher peak height than his 770. But also I was just responding to the question in a general sense as well.
@@ianmikowski662 it's not loft for loft. The P790 is quite a bit stronger in loft yet still launches similar, I could have tiled launch opposed to peak
Is this your channel or TaylorMade’s? I know you have a contract with them (not sure if exclusive, which think it is), but your channel is basically just an infomercial full of bias. I get it though is how you get paid…make your money. I just hope people understand that when watch your videos. It’s funny because I always thought by law you had to state that this is sponsored content since you are paid by them for RU-vid vids? You and TaylorMade might have some fun exposure since I may have missed the disclosure for your vids. Just be open about it and I don’t think many people would care if they know clearly you are being paid by TaylorMade for your vids.
