Neurons that fire together wire together. I used my imagination for good. I never realized the problem until recently then I read everything about it and got really serious about a plan of action. I used my visualization to exaggerate what I was doing in the moment to make it more fun and connected to my greater goals and life's mission.

I see, I thought even if I came up with something positive, it wouldn't be a good thing because I'm still engaging in the habit of MDD. I think the key takeaway here is to associate it as close as possible to the real world, this would make it look like a regular train of thought. Also, another big thing is that if the solutions are real in the daydreams, then one will have to do it less. This can lead to more confidence as more problems are solved and less reliance on the coping mechanism. Thanks for posting!

Thanks, this sounds promising. I'll give it a try. Even if it's not a complete cure it must still help somewhat

@SUN SHINE At first I recovered a bit but it's crept back. Maybe I need to keep repeating it as needed?

It doesn't work for everyone. Childhood traumas also cause MD not just stress.

The stress comes from being envious of tv characters having better lives???

Basically, visualize doing the uncomfortable task as a positive experience. Be aware of triggers that cause maladaptive daydreaming

@SUN SHINE Also I've been somewhat consistent with a 10 minute daily meditation every morning using the Medito app (best completely free meditation app imo) and over the past couple of months that's helped me quite a bit to catch myself when I'm lost in thought. It's not a quick fix though, it's more of a subtle and gradual change but in the long-term I've made quite a bit of progress.
