Greg, I see the importance of this video. It isn't just a commentary of how these movies show modern society treating young men poorly. It also shows how any one of us can become a lost boy in our age. I, like many others, was in that same place. No friends, no job, family was not supportive, and I certainly saw no purpose in my life. I thought about ending it all, just to stop the pain. However, that dark time did pass. That was almost 7 years ago. It was not easy, but I got through it and found those who support me. Purpose is not easily found, or always obtainable. We will fall, get hurt, and cry in despair. But in the journey of life, that's okay. I know you have been going through your own darkness. The experiences you have had are wholly your own; but I wanted you to know, you are not alone. If you continue to make videos, great! If you don't, well that's fine too. Just know, we see you and you are certainly not forgotten. Thanks for everything you do.

This video spoke to me more than the movies themselves, I guess I didn't pay enough attention to their themes and didn't get the actual message. I am a 33yo male, engineer, with a good job and financially stable, but I don't have any friends, no one seem to understand or like me, my hobbies or my sense of humor, and I simply can't connect with anyone. All my life I've been trying to be "nice", to be "useful", but it always ends with people using me and trying to take advantage of me, no one seems to really care about me. I don't have violent ideas, other than occasional "self-harm" intrusive thoughts, I've come to terms that I'm simply unlikeable, and to be honest I don't like most people anyway. Anyway, just wanted to vent a little and let you know that I felt seen after watching your video, thanks Greg.

I could listen to you describe the history of knitting, and I would be just as riveted as when you regail the wisely gathered subtext of films. And BTW, I really love the new avatar, he's so expressive.

What these people need is a perspective that looks at the systemic issues that create their material conditions. Poverty, lack of healthcare, inadequate distribution of funds in the community, discrimination in society, no control in your workplaces, apathetic landlords etc. And that's all before even getting to the most unfortunate who have to deal with a broken family or mental illness on top of all of that. At the same time listening to neoliberals, who assure them everything's alright on one side and fascists, that sow the seeds of misdirected anger can be just *alienating*. (i was waiting the entire video, for you to use precisely that word)

It's a really great litmus test to see if someone is left wing or just a piece of shit looking to hate. It's funny because it's a distinctly liberal movie that suggests that things like universal healthcare would have helped, but you still see people attacking it calling it a white male incel power fantasy.

I remember buying King of Comedy hoping it would be like Joker and...no, it's somewhat the same but the tone is completely different, it's more about looking at the view of "Gotta get your foot through the door!" taken to the extreme. It's more played for laughs than commentary.

I think an important lesson to learn in life is to be okay with not making big glamourous impacts on society as a whole but small impacts on the communities around us. we have ended up in a place, because of movies and social media, where we feel we must be a "main character", a "hero" to someone making big sweeping changes to the whole of society and it leads us to miss out on what we can do to just better life in the small circles we truly impact.

I was expecting at least a little bit of analysis about why you suppose this is happening, or what could be done to improve the situation; an evaluation of what it actually is that this meta-character is missing in his life.
