Makes me wonder if Wayton just sucks at saves. When I make a couple back-to-back saves that I had no business making, it feels better than an air dribble or a solid passing play.
My favorite mechanic is when the ball is in the corner and me and the opponent both just awkwardly nudge it around slowly - both without boost - until it gently rolls past one person who tries to back up and ends up rolling it 5mph to their own goal. A classic
Ive stumbled on a new certain kickoff. If the cars are next to eachother in the middle lane. 1 has to start and the other needs to bump him from behind. If the timing is right you will end up way faster than your opponement.
Unfortunately it's not new. Hoops mains use it more than people in standard RL because it's super inconsistent. I did it one time and was super stoked thinking I found a new mechanic but my brother informed me of this fact.
I personally think that demos are great when used in cool and interesting ways like airdribble demos and flicking it and then demoing before the save and such. The only time demos are bad is when the player doesn’t even think about going for the ball once, and just spawn demos. That kind of player is what gave demoing a bad name.
Fast aerial is the only misplaced one in my opinion, as it is one of the earliest, most essential and most used mechanics in the game. You'll use it more than any other mechanic in the game.... I mean you have to imagine "How many games would I win or be viable in without this mechanics?", without fast aerials that puts you out of all game play plat or above. With those arguments, I must say, I think "Fast Aerial is S tier"
And yes I am the one making this play. And yes I am flexing on you. And yes I am putting it in S tier. And yes I am on to the next mechanic. -Waytoney 2021
Passing to a teammate you know is S tier but passing to a random teammate is F because it literally has no impact on the game other than turning ball over
Great vid! Although I know it might seem redundant being that you included wave dashes, I think another mechanic to talk about would be recovering and different recoveries in general. Being able to recover your car in awkward positions and get right back into a save/shot/pass is pretty satisfying and with new recovery mechanics being discovered like corner dashes and landing wave dashes there’s still a high skill cap for being able to always recover and keep momentum in RL.
Wayton I was put in the video! What i'm meaning is when you referenced yourself from 2017 when you hit a redirect, I was on your team, and obviously you know that xD
Air dribbles are probably competitively S tier as well. Very versatile and gets you strong ball control. If the opponent wants to stop you before the net they have to commit hard, and if they dont you have lots of options to keep your scoring opportunities varied
As much as I don't like people who just claim that they made a new mechanic, I don't get it when people criticise them by saying that they are just making weird useless versions of normal flicks as if the musty and breezi don't exist. I'm not criticising the flicks, they are incredible and need effort and time, but I can reduce any flick into a dumb move by using that statement. Just an opinion
The only things I would have to disagree with are demos and saves. Sure playing against a demo knight means their rotation is messed up and we win, nut being constantly targeted and killed causing me to reset is just annoying so maybe C or D. Saves should be A tier they are a core mechanic and there can actually be amazing saves like off the way aerials, muffin saves, dribbles saves and more. Just my opinions as a Champ 3.
Agree on pretty much all of them. But saves? Sure, you don't clip it, but is there anything more fun than denying goal after goal after goal and witnessing how shots become more ferocious, the other team more aggressive just in order to get that damn ball past you?
speedflips definitely should be in s tier just because they are so usefull and if you can do them, as you said, you can use them for every aspect of the game
when u do demo, people cry n accuse you for being a rotten soul and so on, pros tell me to demo cause thats a skill and its what they do in their tier, if you want to get good at it, start training, you’ll piss alot people off and you will be able to predict alot better
10:17 “Yes that is me doing that play, and yes this is a flex, AND YES IM PUTTING THIS IN A TIER……… AND YES WE ARE MOVING ONTO THE NEXT MECHANIC” Me:………………………………………………………….
The only thing that i would say my opinion is the opposite of wayton's is saves they just look so cool and i would spend my whole day watching a montage of them
Saves should be s tier since when you save more than 3 times in less than 10 seconds and u feel like a monster and you just scream on the top of ur lungs making it better than any other mechanics in this list
You forgot about the SS mechanic called the What a Save! U basically score a goal on your opponent and What a Save! them. They start to get tilted increasing your chances of winning the game. Highly recommend the mechanic 10/10 for every level including bronze
He says pinches always look the same and there is not a lot of room for creativity. In the video he barely even shows any other than normal ground pinches. In fact there is a lot of room for creativity. People have scored triple and quad ground pinches (3 or 4 people ground pinching at the same time), ground pinches into sidewall reads, ground pinches into pancake / backboard resets and those are only examples for GROUND PINCHES. There are so much more examples for wall pinches, team pinches ect. He puts this mechanic in E tier btw. For the power shot there is actually not a lot of room for creativity. It is the same fast shot every single time. Just from a different position. He puts this one into A tier because he says that it's super satisfying seeing the ball being launched into the goal. I understand that but why is that not the case with pinches? I get if you would say that power shots are more competitive. But you can do pinches competitively as well (from a bounce dribble e.g.). Thanks for your patience.
A couple things. 1. JZR is about as consistent a pincher as there is and hits them about 1 out of every 3 tries. If you want to see a master, he’s always my go to. 2. Would you consider a preflip redirect to be it’s own mechanic? Virge in particular comes to mind with this. The speed he gets with his preflip redirects is actually nuts. If I had a single correction to add it would be maybe considering this as a different mechanic. Oh you left out pancakes, which is fine, just wish I could have seen it next to chain resets. I haven’t seen an actual Ganer clip in over a year and a half. I guess even he got tired of them. Great video as always. 🤝
The great thing about the game is that it doesn’t end there, there are combinations too (pinch passes, ceiling double taps, etc.). Feels like the possibilities are endless
Saves are S tier, because when your half field and boost to your goal, go up the wall, keep your seep with powerslide, preflip pinch the ball from your post into the enemy net. Feels amazing😂
So I just hit plat and I'm really trying to take the right route by not only focusing on air dribbles and flip resets. Instead, I'm learning to ground dribble but Idk what the best thing to learn right now is. What rank you you think just basic dribbles would go in. I've been working a lot on shooting, power shots, rotations, and wave dashes/recoveries too so yeah.
For the demo one, I have opponents who try to demo me and it messes up their rotations meaning goals for my team. I had an enemy in 1s today who did this dribble demo strategy and everytime he tried it i scored a goal. When enemies do succeed in a demo, demos are so annoying and you go to a random side on your half (rng)
Everytime Wayton said something about a mechanic being the same every time or just no difference between them, thats literally every mechanic in the game lol. It's the same type of mechanic just a tiny bit different until it turns into something new. Plus Double touches are boring once you have seen alot of them lol.
Funny that people call these mechanics. The more proper term would be a technique or a dynamic, because none of this is a specific game mechanic (maybe except the flip reset).
Saves are what got me into Rocket League. I saw a video of a save somewhere and was like, wow this looks cool. How dare you disrespect saves and put them at E-tier. Nice list tho.
Though the video is quite old from this comment i just wanted to say that i have SMACKED demo heavy teams many many many times before and i kinda bully them after the game because of it so to sum it all up demo's can be easily beaten if done well and i proved Wayton wrong. Side note: I feel like someone dissagreed with wayton about mechaniss and now he was mad at the world😅
My unpopular opinion: Demos are supposed to be in Rocket League, if you use them right demos open up the entire field. people just get mad over them. I find them satisfying when I get a clean demo and a teammate scores.
You should see the Saves Mechanics by Flakes, in the final for Mine Salt tournament last year against Okhalid he saved multiple air dribble bump plays with a perfect saving technique, I know this list is kind of your opinion but I like your content and I am aware nobody can be aware of everything, so that might shine a light on you.
