Thank you for saying ladies and gentleman! I’m a guy and I watch your channel for tips on hair care. It seems small, but it totally feels nice to be recognized as part of the audience.
That is so funny that is all I use is Sauve avocado oil shampoo, cantu leave in and blue magic grease and my hair is long over 16 inches now and I cut 4 inches last year
First of all my entire childhood that’s all my mom used and my hair was LONG and HEALTHY beyond beautiful now it’s just bleh so I’m sold. Going to the hair store tomorrow
I was going to let you slide with the nails 😉 I've never experienced Blue Magic hair grease. My Mama used either TCB or BB (Bronner Brothers) Super Grow. If she was feeling fancy she would use Indian hemp hair grease. No I will not be trying Blue Magic. I have some Camille Rose Anjani Growth "balm" aka grease 😁 the hair was super cute per usual 😍 I hope your audition went well.
I think, for protective styling, it makes sense. It seals in the moisture for a long time. For wearing the hair out, it’s too much build-up (also it’s a dust/lint magnet) and I’d hate to hate to use a sulfate shampoo at each wash day. I also fear that it would weigh down curls/kinks.
It is so crazy for natural hair influencers can be so influential. I mean one person convinced someone grease was bad for you and they convinced someone else and that person convinced 10 other people and the cycle repeated until damn near everyone stopped using grease. If no one ever said that grease was bad. We would’ve never stopped using it
Yep. To be fair, petrolatum and petroleum ARE clogging to the pores. I personally don't want them on my scalp, but I think tweaking the application to the hair instead has a lot of benefits!
Yeah if a products doesn't work for one person they call it "crappy" and say it's bad for everyone and people jump on the band wagon without doing their own research. People were even saying it cloggs pores but I've seen many scientist say that petroleum/petrolatum molecules are too large to cloggs pores. They can lay on top and trap dirt and oils in the pores but they can't get inside to actually clog pores. Many of same people who say they don't use grease because it "clogs pores" are okay with using coconut oil and coconut oil has been proven to clog pores. 🤷🏽♀️
@planetvict0ria Yes I have seen where petroleum jelly was considered non pore clogging while coconut oil has moderate to high pore clogging potential. I know from personally experience that olive and coconut oil cause pore clogging on my face and dandruff on my scalp. Petroleum jelly never clogs my pores, but feel like it smothers my scalp and makes my hair greasy. so I don’t love it on my hair/scalp. I also didnt have huge success with LCO or LOC method on my hair. I prefer to go product free, no shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, oil, butter, cream, or nothing. I haven’t used any of the above in 18 months and my hair is surprisingly thriving on just sebum and water. Growing, staying moisturized, easy to manipulate, barely any splits. And the best part of all hair care easy and dirt cheap. I recently noticed even edges I didn’t know I was missing growing in, like my whole scalp regenerating from being able to breathe.
my hair growing up fucking LOVED grease. but now that I've gone thru the natural hair movement I'm... back to the grease it's better than even shea butter. my only qualm is that it's a petrol product thus not good for the environment 😭 but NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING LOCKS MOISTURE into my skin and hair like GREASE.
I still don’t know why I let these people convince me grease is bad for my hair, lawd y’all should’ve seen my face when I used it and realized how long it kept my hair moisturized, I can use just water and seal with the grease but if I use a thicker leave in and seal with the grease it stays moisturized even longer
I'm a Chemist and trust me there is NOTHING wrong with mineral oil/petroleum. It's an excellent otc sealant. Only thing that's bad about it is it can cause irritation in SOME people. Same as any ingredient. For example, coconut oil is one of the best pentrating oils but, some people are allergic to that too. And, there is NOTHING wrong with sulfates. Sulfate free still strips the hell out of your skin and hair. What makes a shampoo not stripping is the humectants thats added to it. Just have to read rhe label and not focus on the "evil" sulfates. Sorry for the rant, but it's hard when people don't listen to scientist who actually make these products. Keep using your hair grease if it works for you ❤👍🏾. I have a sensitive scalp and can't use mineral oil or coconut oil or barely anything....lol. sigh!
Thank you for sharing! You’re right. I think if people just use what works for THEM it would clear up a lot of fear and confusion as well. 🙌🏾 Thank you for your insight!
Can you recommend any moisturiser for a sensitive scalp like yours? I have seborrheic dermatitis and can’t use oils, or anything on my scalp but honey.
Very true some moisturizing shampoos of Shea moisture stripped the hell out of my hair. I read up on the ingredients and realised thair cleansing agent was just as agressive as sulfates😂😂😂😂
Yes!! My husband is a chemist and he said the same thing about sulfate based shampoos and shampoos that use sodium hydroxide (creamed nature) to cleanse and soften hair. I alternate shea butter with Blue Magic when I twist up my hair and put it in a bun. I use Blue Magic to keep my ends from knotting and breaking.
Grease is a perfect science, it only makes sense why it works for our hair! From sealing in the moisture to giving it softness and shine and so many varieties, what's not to love? My hair has been thriving and growing so much since I went back into it in May of this year, I grease my scalp with BB's Pine Tar and seal my hair with Dax's greases (I interchanged between using their Green, Blue, Hemp, and Lanolin) and sometimes with BB's Hair Food grease. My nape used to be practically bald but now it's shoulder length when stretched, my hair overall is the longest I've ever had it since going natural (not counting when I wore locs)! If it works, it works, and grease definitely works!
Grease all the way! I started my natural hair journey in 2017 doing the oils, moisturizers bla bla bla... And my hair grew but the texture was always coarse. That's not what I remember grow up. Then one day being all out of oils I used the blue magic grease I bought over a year ago and BOOM in bounced the soft curly hair I remember... Soft, moisturised and juicy looking. Trust me...I'm never going back!
I remember Mom sitting me sister & me between her legs , sitting on floor while she greased our scalps. That was bk in the day, decades ago, but still remember that bonding, that African-American/Caribbean ritual. Good times. Thanks for this positive, elegant video! Your healthy hair = goals. Greetings from Chicago
My experience has been completely different from everyone else. When I used grease, my hair never grew past my collar bones. But once I used organic hair care products, oil, and butters like shea, kokum, and Cocoa my hair GREW!
In my opinion, previously when we were using grease we didn't know the " protective style, low manipulation, seal your ends, reduce friction" part of maintaining our hair. My hair wasn't retaining length with grease then, but it is now.
I know how taboo grease is in the natural hair community but I'm not gonna lie, I've been using the Blue Magic Vitamin E hair food with wheat germ & coconut oils since the beginning of the quarantine as a styler along with ORS carrot oil hair creme. Let's just say that my fine strands loves the combo!
@@Doc_McStuffins Not to mention that it's also inexpensive. I like that it doesn't weigh my hair down & it's not greasy. Just heavy enough to give lots of moisture.
That was me! 🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️ I said try a wash ‘n go with blue magic & wetline extreme gel! It made my hair super defined! I also used a leave in first. It was awesome!! 😄😄😄 So I wanna know why you didn’t do a wash ‘n go!
I use the blue magic indian hemp and it works, definitely kept moisture in my hair. I remember stop using it because of he NHC speaking against it, but it is how you use it and if it works for your hair then go ahead. I agree with the using sulfate to cleanse your hair after using the grease cause ggirrlll the sulfate is needed cause that grease is heavy! Also A little grease goes a long way. I love the look, will try it with that threading method for my next protective style.
I went back to using grease, specifically on my scalp, January 2020. My scalp health took a terrible turn and endured years of suffering due to dandruff, horrible dryness, and itchy/flaky scales, and stress. My scalp has done a complete turn around thanks to Blue Magic and Sulfur 8!
My problem with grease is the greasiness, lol. I want to be able to touch my head, and maybe a man too, without residue on my hand. Maybe with a lighter application but I remember my momma slathering it on and it feeling gross later as it attracted grime and dust.
Yes girl!!! I too use it! And yes - I have to clarify my hair on wash day - but shoo, it's no big deal because my hair is soft and not brittle when I use grease or seal with grease.
My seborrheic dermatitis is a little more severe so I'll continue to avoid this like the plague lol. My parents were "olive oil and pink oil moisturizer" people lol
The Sulfur 8 grease in the light blue container is the only one I use about twice a month for Seborrheic Dermatitis and it keeps my scalp calm. Can't really say I'll use grease too much outside of that. Maybe one day. I just don't miss the greasiness 😞 @Latoya Ebony have you ever considered using Sulfur 8 to calm your scalp?
@@madisilver460 Yess! I use to love that cooling feeling of isosplus on my scalp. Stylist would say that is not made for the scalp...hmm worked for me!😁
The world continues to go around. Grease will always find its way back to us. I'm a 70s brat and I allowed natural community to bamboozle me into thinking that what I grew up using in my hair was poison. I am so glad that I woke up out of that nightmare and went back to what works, working, and worked for me for the last 4 decades. Its worked for our ancestors and it will continue to work for the next generation if we allow it to. GREASE IS BAE❤️
Listening to the natural hair community about how bad grease was for your hair robbed me of 15 precious years period! I am going back to grease - and my hair is fabulous at 22 inches long!
Despite what the RU-vid hair gurus teach, I couldn't help turning back to hair grease when I thought of how much it helped make my hair easier to manage as a child. My Mom kept my hair in twists or plaits (braids) for most of the time and always shampooed with a bar soap. I can't remember having any problems with dry or hard-to-detangle hair then. Since returning to natural, I mostly keep my hair in twists and plaits so I do use hair grease, Blue Magic or Softee, as a sealer but never on my scalp, and it still works just fine. I just make sure to use a sulfate shampoo to prevent buildup. BTW your hair looks great!
I just started back using Hair grease. I stopped because it iched on my scalp but a youtuber uses Hair grease on her hair with some hair cream once a week and that babies hair grew down her back. I think her name is natural academia. So, I'm going back to grease but not using on my scalp and so far it's been good.
i went to the Dominican salon and got a blow out .. only thing she added was hair sheen. it was nice and straight but i got tired of my hair snapping every time i combed it.. I started to accept this condition and believed that fragility was my hair type til one night I got desperate picked up any oil/ grease/lotion i could find i'll say this...I DONT HAVE THAT PROBLEM NOMO. make sure you moisturize it with water or some type of hair dressing before you seal it with the grease.. honey then run the olive oil through it. old school goodie...
That intro though! And that shot of you with the fluffy fro?! Gorgeous woman, gorgeous hair. Love it, You took your hair down for it, hope you get the part! Good luck at the audition.
I love the blue magic super sure gro! I use it after my leave in and moisturizer then I plait my hair and leave it alone for 2 weeks. When I take the plaits down my hair is still moisturizer but I wash it and do it all over again. My hair is flourishing at MBL I hope to be WL by the end of the year. Blue magic is the truth 💜 it’s the key to retention
Love the intro, love the video, I been using grease, never stopped. I suggest, applying grease section by section as opposed to applying to each twist, that may help with that greasy feeling. All the best for your audition!!!!
I never used hair grease growing up (mom liked hair oils), but I tried Blue Magic Indian Hemp earlier this year and it’s a staple sealant for me now. Your hair is gorgeous and we have a similar texture 💜
I went back to hair grease about as soon as I went natural. I read the blogs and watched the videos and was like hair grease never caused my mom any problems with growing our hair as a child so I I knew their info was false. My hair was the longest when my mother was braiding it and using blue magic.
Omg, if I walk into my mom’s bathroom today, I KNOW I’ll find a tub of blue magic in there. The smell immediately reminds me of my childhood lol **edit: just got to the part where you said it smells like childhood 😂
I've been back on grease (as a sealant) for about a year now. it's a definite YES!! Never giving it up again. I love blue magic and dax. I also use Palmer's olive oil formula (wal-mart). It's lighter / less greasy than blue magic and dax but still a great sealant.
After 2 years of being re-natural I was really on the Natural Hair Bandwagon. Maaaannnn after all the annoyances I was like "GREASE AINT KILLT NOBODY! IM GETTIN ME SOME BLUE MAGIC!!!" And I ain't looked back. I still have some sulfur8 from waaayyy back. I haven't used it tho because since I stopped relaxing, even before I reintroduced grease, my scalp has been happy and healthy. But yes grease is hair life and I've helped spread these true words!
I never stopped using hair “Grease.” My hair has always thrived since I was a little girl. hair grease has always been a staple in our household. Yup! Prell shampoo and grease! Royal Crown, Queen Bergamot. Dax, Sufur 8, etc.
LaToya is informative and entertaining! It's great that she talks directly when explaining, but also gets in there and shows us. Total bonus when she shows and talks on voice over. Just a cool helpful variety and I'm here for it! I saw and heard about "the grease," but wanted to see what she thought! If she doesn't like it then I don't like it! ✋🏿😃
Grease is amazing. I went back to it about 2 years ago and I'm so glad I did. In a short period of time I had a totally different, healthier head of hair. Try the green one with Bergamot. Much more pleasant as far as the smell. The body and movement that you achieved is off the charts!
Another AWESOME video! Hair looked bomb!!! Given the options that I currently have, I will pass on the hair grease; but if push came to shove, I would use it. And of course, I ain't mad at anyone who uses it because we're all just doing what works for us or at least trying to figure it out.
Latoya im just here to thank you for changing the narrative on this topic haha cause whooooo chile i don't know who told people grease was bad for our hair. I use blue magic as sealant and my 4c/4b hair love it.It stays moisturised for over 7days. Keep schooling us ma'am❤
I use a leave and a thick cream and seal with blue magic hair grease and my hair is moisturized for a very long time if I put it in some king of protective style. Love this grease and only thing that works for me cuz oils definitely don’t.
Awww I tried it...again, in adulthood. And the way my scalp & fine hair is set up...whew! It weighed my hair down and my scalp itchy. It's a no for me, sadly 🤷🏾♀️😔
Nope. No ma'am. I'm not getting within 5 feet of grease/vaseline. My 4abc hair is down to my butt thanks to natural ingredients and Ayurveda. I'm good. I used Pink Oil Moisturizer religiously growing up and my hair never reached my shoulders.
I must be the only black person who's mother hated hair grease. She always put water and olive oil on it. To this day I'm still scared of petroleum and mineral oil 😅
I started my natural hair journey in 2013. In 2018 I went back to using everything I gave up on including grease. I have so much now its ridiculous lol. My hair has been retaining lenght finally
@Latoya Ebony I only use Sulfur 8 grease on my scalp for Seborrheic Dermatitis about twice a month or so to keep my scalp calm and make my scalp feel normal. It works but I wouldn't use any other grease on my scalp besides medicated. My hair is another story if I decide to try the blue magic or other grease. I just don't miss that grease feel and I would have to definitely watch my skin from breakouts plus protect anything I lay on even more and watch my hair scarfs or bonnets more. 😳 I'll consider it but can't make no promises. 😂😂 I did remember my cousins doing the water and grease back in the day and their hair was always pretty but they could look very shiny too.😂😂😂 Need to have cleaning wipes on hand for my face and neck to avoid too much shine and breakouts. Chiiilllle, memories.😊
Grease is AMAZING, and I wish I’d used it for the past 6 years instead of 4, lol. My favorites are BB maximum strength thickener, BB Olive Oil Strengthener, and Palmer’s Olive Oil gro therapy. For my dry hair, grease is a great leave in conditioner and sealant... 💃🏽😎🥊👍🏽👍🏽🎉🎉😝

No judgment, we're all friends here! Haven't used Blue Magic in decades, but I can still smell it -- partially because I get the occasional whiff when my husband uses it. Where are you from?
I ignore other people when it come too my hair. Been using hair grease for awhile. Been a game changer. When I can go weeks without doing anything to my hair, its a good month. I really hate wetting my hair, for so called moisture. It retain water for too long and feels creepy. Wash days and grease is the only time I need too now.
Latoya you’re so funny 🤣 when you smell the grease and say it smells like childhood was funny! You’re so much fun to watch. You’re so pretty with and without makeup😍
I've been thinking about revisiting blue magic and hemp. I'm in my box braid and faux loc season. But when I start my hair hiatus, I'll definitely give it another go.
WOW! I'm a Dating Coach...but Once a week I do Hair videos in ITALIAN. Yes I live in Milan. 🇨🇮And last week I used #bluemagic and I was SHOCKED to see you using it. Yes. It's FABULOUS. My Hair NEVER felt BETTER or softer. Not for Styling but yes for GROWTH!
Great video quick question for those who want to use grease but not sulfates do think some of the sulfate free clarifying shampoos will work i.e.... Kinky Curly Come Clean, As I Am Curl Clarity, Alikay Black Soap, Shea Mositure JBCO, etc.?
I feel like I stopped using grease when I started wrapping my hair when I had relaxer.. I felt like it gave me less flow.. I’ve been natural for like last eight years almost and after all the “natural” hair products I have tried.. I’m going back to blue magic because I have been having a lot of split ends and breakage.. mainly because I haven’t been doing the weekly washes and deep conditioning thing lots of naturals say to do..
@@LaToyaEbonyHair I liked it. It won't be super defined, but I don't care about definition. I use it to stretch my hair. I like VOLUME❤️🥰 Love your channel!
