Ive known about these bikes for decades and never heard it called a rock on, sounds like a regional thing. Even the company calls them rokon, Jay Leno's garage has an episode with owner of the company for the modern iteration of them and he calls it a Rokon. Okay, rewatched the Jay Leno episode and Jay says they were originally called rock on. Lot of cool info and history in the video.

The correct pronunciation of the ROKON is "Rock-on" and that was what the inventor of the machine called it. I looked up the history of the machine on Google and that was the pronunciation it showed in the article. Even I would have thought it would be called "Row-con". I have been calling it the same thing you guys have called it. I enjoyed this video and all of the rest. I know you all are glad the Nugget is over with, but I sure did enjoy watching you all every step of the way from the recovery to the finished product. I know Ed is proud to have friends like you all and you all are blessed to have ED as your friend. I know you made Ed one happy man to get all his equipment back in such a great shape. 😊

I am an old geezer. And I have always heard it pronounced (Row-Con) but that doesn't make it correct. Rumor has it that the inventor named it (Rock-on) but it is the rare individual who uses the original pronunciation. Great videos.

Actually named from a ski lodge on the rocks started as rockon changed it to rokon . But looking at my English lit friend says ro kon would naturally come to mind if you were reading it

I had a Hodaka Trail 90 that I pulled out of a barn in Idaho. Had plans to do a cafe racer build on it, but never got to it.😥I sold it to someone else who had the same idea.

Yes to polishing those wheels. That's a must after seeing it on Ed's and Matt's. You should paint it in the black/blue/silver color scheme of your merch though. If Matt's gets to be decked out in his livery, so should yours!

Hey Guys- I work in Rochester , New Hampshire. The ROKON manufacturing facility is on route 16 about 15 minutes away. They still produce them and sell some to the military. We always have pronounced it ROWKON. Love the channel!

I have rode 3 Rokons, even one like Ed's back in 1970. Everyone calls them the same as Ed, like row-con. The one you have now has a centrifugal clutch on it, and no gears. At least that is what the last one I rode had on it. I may know where it is at, but I would have to check.

Wow y'all our so awesome at everything you do we love watching y'all video I was just talking with my husband about y'all he said he wished he had the money to bring his jeep in to have it all done and fixed up for our 14 year old son he turns 15 in September and Is going to be driving soon and we're giving him the jeep and we wish we could pay to get our dodge pickup done maybe some day but we love y'all work and love how y'all get along like family. You should paint it Layton Blue. Get the seat recovered, maybe a new foam piece. Definitely fix the dents. Maybe work with Bikes and Beards on the engine. And certainly do the polish! Congratulations guys!

I guess it was originally meant as Rock On or similar, but it´s much less easy to copyright two common words, so it became Rokon, and this shaped the common pronounciation must everyone uses. Anyway - nice find! Can´t wait to see what you do it!

Grew up with these bikes. Use to go on 3 day camping trips on them all over in the Ephraim and Manti canyons in UT. Still have 5 of them. All from around the 70's. Three of them still running, that I recall. Others need a bit of work.

When you went to pick up the "row-kon" all I had eyes for was that old Hodaka dirt bike. One of my first loves back in the last century. THAT would be a great thing to rebuild/restore! By the way, even the factory advertising called it "Ro-kon" in their commercials. I assume they knew what they were saying.

I met the current owner of the Rokon brand (he's from NH) at the New England Motorcycle Museum (in CT) and he (and everyone else in New England) pronounces it Ro-kon, not rock-on.

Rokon is such a "Manly Man" sounding pronunciation, I cannot imagine any other!! Great find!! Great video!!! We are all looking forward to the restoration videos. Especially the one where you split the tank in order to pound out those dents and then welding it back together. Can the cracked aluminum part be welded or are replacement parts available?? Pieces of history, plus the build quality and materials were far superior back then. If you bought a modern Rokon there is no way it would last 50plus years laying in the open air. Machanically very little can be wrong with a machine like this, if its got compression its almost a cert to run

Clearly you've never bought old vehicles, hell my 1st motorbike was a Batavis gogo, I wouldn't wait to get home with it. I drove that thing with a flat tyre. I bought a Lancia Fulvia that sat for years and ignored the sellers advice, I had to start it and drive it. Its just a thing we petrol heads do.

I always heard it ROKON. Never got to ride one of the Trailbreakers nor even see one but I did get to ride a friend's ROKON 340 cc enduro motorcycle. It had a variable speed belt drive, torque converter style, and disc brakes front and rear

The Jeep you looked at and commented on the "home made top". I have a 1959 CJ 5 and it has a top that looks just like that one. You can tell there was insulation glued to it at one time but it's all gone now.
