I love high level vod reviews, the more of these the better 😊 i know you have a lot of content for more of a beginner audience but I would love a video eventually on how tournament/high level players read their opponents' timings in such short sets. I'd like to add a little nuance to this the holding big moves part, if you play a mishima at a lower level showing off the electric early on and somewhat often is a power move since a lot of players aren't using them due to execution barrier so if you can throw out a few they will cause either of the two things: 1. the player is familiar with why electrics are strong so now they play a bit more scared / start ducking more whenever you cd 2. the player is clueless and you can just generate infinite + frames on them and counter hit Even if you aren't really good with electrics just showing it off can be scary for those who are in the know from watching stuff on youtube but are still somewhat new players learning

There seemed to be so many times in T7 when I would get clipped by a strong mid by jack, electrics, Paul death fist, during my backdash because I wasn't cancelling it well enough. But there were very small specific moments where it felt fast and I still got hit. This might have been exactly why

He could have added 1 more b3,f,1 and then bf2,3,f,u1. Could also add 1 jab before RA after tornado and it would kill for sure. Also the RA might be lame but at least it's short :P

I had realized this almost a week ago. I had to adjust my dashing when I was in close range because I was always wanting to just KBD away from the opponent.

The normal back dash in this game is actually decently fast compared to previous tekkens. I've been trying to nomral backdash at close~medium range.

Hey Mr.DX, how do you try to control with jab to discourage mashing? Playing Reina i get knocked out of Heaven's Wrath trying to do Hell Axle. In my head it feels like I should try to dash block in and close space and jab?

I'm confused, when should you be applying KBD vs simple back dashing? I thought you should always be KBDing when being pressured or in close-range neutral since KBD acts as a OS between highs/mids and low pokes (since lows are generally slower). For example, KBDing all the time has helped me inadvertently block Dragunov's d2 when they throw it out in close range situations.

isn't it more the case that there's certain times that neutral guard will fail you, as opposed to certain moves just not being blocked? like, Jin's Demon Paw can/will be blocked by a neutral guard if the person is simply standing there, but during gameplay while moving around, it will hit you during those brief moments where the controller is in the neutral position... things like this have been driving crazy because there's so many times when i'm getting clipped by a mid or high attack when i was NOT pressing anything at all (though i recently was/did)....

Christ tommyp has a good jab check. This might be forgotten by some players but you always need to have a good jab check or one jab. If we look back at knee, jdcr or some of the legacy players they have this mechanic instilled in them so that they don't make mistakes as often as possible and at the same time giving off pressure so that the opponent diesn't do anything silly or be aggressive. Simple really but a genius tactic

Someone said it's opponent specific, but definitely not, since every character has long range tools that can caught you slacking in your KBD. 😂

I always found that backdash itself is a vulnerable moment, so ppl with choppy backdashes leave themselves more vulnerable. In essence, if ur not actively blocking ur open for attack. When under pressure, fast kbd is not the appropriate response but rather a sinple block, well placed backdash, or tight kbd us best practice. Kbd and the speed of kbd give players a false sense of security.

Coz for me after 1 month i started to c the problems with tekken 8, im a player who likes to move, block and whiff punish and wt im observing in this game is that the player who tries to defend and play safe tekken get overwhelmed by the unbelievable opponent pressure. I think neutral guarding in general is nerfed for T8. I've seen others talk about getting clipped more, myself included. Probably has to do with how they want us the players to be not only more aggressive in this game but to be more deliberate now with our defense/movement so we don't get complacent and just wait on the opponent to accidently kill themselves going in.

The demon paw at 18:04 did NOT catch your neutral. It hit you on the second frame of your down back on your KBD. I do not know what you are talking about with this catching neutral stuff. If that's really a thing, it did not happen here and I would appreciate some further explanation on what you're trying to demonstrate.

A question regarding Jin: His DF4 is -13 on block His F,n,D,DF4 is -31 on block Both of these moves look indistinguishable to me until after they get blocked, but if I take the time to look out for which one was used I already miss the window to do the -13 punish. What is the correct play here?

Hello phidx and youtube community i just started tekken 8 my first "serious" fighting game i happen onto this channel while looking for guides on tekken movement and stuff after i got my butt handed to me by a bot kazuya my question is ive done about 15 ranks online some good some bad all learning experinces however when i watch my replays i can see combos im dropping or missed punishes because im so nervous and excited especially when its a 2-2 last round and i lost the first set thank you for any advice (omg i hate how advise and advice are sorry)

i mean if you compare korean backdashing with normal backdashing, the difference between them is only like 0.9s if done repeatedly. Idk what the devs are actually thinking, and making tekken 8 like tekken 4

I dont think jin is weak agaisnt jab , its just bcs those guys are a little bit weaker than you , but if you face top level jin players thsoe jabs wil be less effective , at the end its always abt who is playing the char

I never hear this mentioned but the reason kbd exists isn't just because it's faster, but because in the pre-T7 days, you literally COULD NOT block during a backdash. So there were no downsides to learning how to kdb. But in T7 forward just doing a normal backdash is looking to be way safer nowadays

Finally, you backdash spamming animals get your comeuppance. Jokes aside, this is a highlight of how the backdash changes in Tekken 8 were a good thing. That situation was definitely less likely to have happened in Tekken 7. One of the problems I always noticed in 7 is that KBD was almost never a bad option; the only time it ever really could be is if the character had a particularly bad backdash (like us poor Gigas mains). Don't get me wrong, this situation was definitely a realistic one there as well, but overall far less so. It's nice to see more consistent methods of counterplay to the KBD option. All options, including KBD, should have risk to balance reward, and the result we see here reflects that Tekken 8 handles that balance nicely so far.
