I absolutely lost it when Shaaba said blue waffle. She and Jammie clearly belong together. They're both too pure for this world.

I am old, when I was a kid I don't think we knew what waffle waffles were, beyond some nebulous tasty treat that American kids got. So I have noooooooo idea what that particular shade of waffle might relate to. Thankfully I am also an old techie - so I shall look it up with impunity Ha ha ha ha!! I was thinking along these lines at that part, too. I'm ace myself, but another side to that same coin is inappropriate workplace advances - for me as a woman, usually from men. I worked at a big warehouse/hardware store type retail store for a while and I wore a fake engagement ring almost the entire time - it cut down on being hit on, though didn't eliminate it entirely. I also had an in-joke with my friends in high school about my imaginary boyfriend (Paj), so while I too have never invented a partner whole cloth, I've been through enough similar shenanigans that I can understand the impulse. Tho I do agree with Shaaba that the people in question are not real friends. You work with who you work with and you can't control that - maybe the fake partner gets them off your back - but if they can't accept you and respect your boundaries, not actually friends. Just people you work with that you're civil to.

In an old workplace, the questions about boyfriends started when I had been working there for less than a week and kept going almost daily for three years until I quit. They also tried to pair me up with any single male they knew or worked at the place, which was super awkward. I never invented a boyfriend (some relatives work there too, so that would have been difficult), but I can see the appeal. Some of the people still keep asking my relatives if I have a boyfriend and it has been a decade since I worked there. People are fricking weird. As a socially awkward aro/ace, I find it very difficult to deal with these situations. I understand why people would ask about partners and such, when getting to know someone, but once is quite enough. I'm sure anyone would tell about a change in the situation, if they are comfortable doing so without being prompted repeatedly.

That was my thought as well. It may also explain why they, as a random adult, live with a family. Also slightly makes me worry that they may also be taken advantage of by the family on the rent. But yeah, that OP is a terrible person.

It feels like maybe of has grown up in a family that doesn't value, either this individual specifically or "people like them" at large.. ugh. There's definitely a lot more context/information needed. There's so much potential for abuse in these situations (taking advantage of a fixed income so they don't have financial independence, limiting autonomy, they genuinely may not be able to find alternative living situations (prejudice in housing etc.) Just.. ugh)

Yeah like my parents were Christian - but like the mom attends church every Sunday without fail with her entire side of the family, my dad stays home if he can get out of it but often gets dragged along and us kids were just expected to be there, shut up, not complain and think of the good quality snacks afterwards. I always got the sense my parents were very much the ‘don’t have sex before marriage’ or if you do, we don’t want to know and won’t acknowledge it at all and continue believing in our heads that y’all perfect virgins till your married type thing. They were hugely uncomfortable just talking about any type of hypothetical relationship, never showed any affection for each other in front of us (no cuddling, kissing, sitting with each other on the couch etc.) I’m the eldest so I think that my parents just thought I was a goody two-shoes good Christian girl and I just figured their world view had seriously messed with my head because while I never understood the whole ‘god/faith’ thing, hating on people who were different from you (in faith, sexuality etc.) I think once I got to high school and refused to go to church every Sunday that my parents thought I was going to turn into a promiscuous teen doing drugs, drinking and having sex and relationships (gasp 🙄) but instead I spent the entire weekend studying and watching shows they probably wouldn’t have approved of if they were home at the time. I never had a relationship or sex and because I wasn’t interested in those and was used to the peer pressure surrounding those and saying ‘no thanks’ I never tried drugs or drank either. So they genuinely thought I was just like the perfect teen - I have two younger siblings and BOY were they absolutely WILD compared to me - they both did the entire teenage experience to the max, unfortunately I think I’d fostered a teens can definitely be trusted with all the freedom they want, because my entire life was study, friends, school and sleep - so my siblings got away with far too much and my parents didn’t know how to deal because I did not prepare them correctly for another 2 teens in the house 😂 The irony is I’m 26 and demisexual - I’ve never had a relationship or sex and now my parents are practically begging for me to date someone and want to set me up with friends/people they know 😬 and they’re freaking out because my siblings are on their like 7th partner by this point and I’m just… not at all… The irony is my parents aren’t LGBT friendly at all, but before I realised I was demisexual - I absolutely refused to let any of their outdated, bigoted remarks happen around me and I think they were probably concerned that I was LGBT myself but really I just thought it was super shitty to judge people because of who they are 🤦‍♀️ Then I think I must’ve been giving off some kind of safe vibes because like my entire friend group in high school was LGBT, so then I’m defending my friend’s identities (without outing anyone without permission of course) and then I turns out I’m not just an ally going to all the marches, wearing rainbow on our pride days, watching LGBT shows out where my parents have to pay attention to them and basically just throwing their bigotry in their faces despite the backlash because ‘I’m an ally, and I love my friends and don’t think people who you don’t even know deserve hate when you can google it, learn and be better. Then it’s like full plot twist ‘I’m demisexual’ so really this whole time I’ve been advocating for myself too 😂🤷‍♀️ The stupid thing is that if I’d know I was demisexual earlier I totally wouldn’t have been able to stand up for my own sexuality because I have so much trouble doing things for myself - but you tell me someone ELSE needs support and deserves to take up space and be loved and accepted and I am there fighting for them. So ironically all these years I’ve been fighting for my parents to respect me and my sexuality and I think at this point they’d actually be really relieved if I told them I was demisexual because being 26 and not having ever had a relationship yet is getting more concerning to them than if I was to just tell them - yeah nah it’s not really for me most of the time. I’m going to hang a demisexual flag in my house and the next time they are over they can either ignore it (probably the option they’ll take tbh) or get over it…

It could be disability money. I know from experience that if you are disabled, but get more money one month from work or whatever, they can take away your disability assistance. Therefore people will keep their money in cash so they don't lose their benefits that they very much need.
