In the books we do get more of a backstory for Haymitch. He won the 2nd quarter quell (50th games) where it was decided that instead of 2 tributes reaped per district, 4 would be reaped. The arena looks like a paradise, but filled with poisonus food, plants, and deadly creatures. He eventually makes an alliance with a girl named Maislee from his district (who was Katniss's mothers best friend, and the og owner of the mockingjay pin katniss has) after she saves his life. They survive a while and then break off alone once it gets down to a lower amount of ppl left. Hes throwing rocks over the edge of a cliff at the edge of the arena and discovers that the force field bounces them back. Haymitch hears Maislee scream and finds her dying after being skewered in the neck by one of the birds in the arena. She dies in his arms. In the final fight between Haymitch and another tribute, he ends up unarmed and running towards the edge of the arena again. He gets there and the tribute throws her axe at him, but he falls to the ground dodging it, and the force field pretty much launched the axe back at the tribute, killing her. Haymitch won. But Snow thought that this was an act of rebellion and made the Capitol look foolish, so after Haymitch wins he ended up executing Haymitch's whole family and girlfriend.

It's genius how Plutarch designed the arena to secretly help Katniss, but in a way so that Snow wouldn't suspect him a traitor. Plutarch knows Katniss will use the elements to her advantage, so he puts the drinkable water in the trees; only she knows what to do when they get the spile. He makes the pond/stream water the antidote for the poison fog; she went straight into the water when she got burned in her first Games. In the book he even subtly flashed his pocketwatch with a Mockingjay symbol on it, hinting the arena's clock-format. Shout-out to Suzanne Collins for creating such genius storytelling.

I like the idea that Snow has had cameras on Katniss 24/7 since the Games and the moment Gale kisses her, he's like "it's finally time to go threaten her! I'm an 80-year-old man obsessed with a 16-year-old girl! This is totally normal!"

Justin Timberlake COULD NOT bring what Stanley Tucci brought to the series. He perfectly encapsulates Caesar’s character

Having read the books it was only ever Team Peeta. Gale represents war and destruction and Peeta represents peace and rebirth. Plus Katniss has an obsession with Peeta’s strong steady arms and long eyelashes. So Team Peeta.

haymitch ended up winning his games by using the dome to ricochet an axe and kill the last person, but since the capitol saw that as him “outsmarting them” they killed his whole family which explains the alcoholism lol also haymitch was in the 50th games which was a quarter quell and there were double the amount of kids in it which is nuts

Team peeta there’s literally nothing between her and gale aside from just being childhood friends and her feeling like she owes him.

As much as I usually loathe love triangles in fiction, this story is one of the only ones I’ve seen do it well because it has a point.

"Ask me what?" from Peeta, followed swiftly by "what are these sex offenders doing in my house" by you is an amazingly insane cut.

The “new plan, straight to the train” line is so brutal. This is an execution. Not a game. And all the districts know.

Peeta always, Gale doesnt even come close. Katniss has to convince herself she would be fine with him, while convincing herself she could be fine without Peeta. In the books her and Gales relationship is really strained after the games. After she went through so much, Gale literally only brought up the fact she had to forge a romantic relationship with peeta. Even though they never had any previous romantic relationship and all it does it make her uncomfortable.

Team Peeta. 1. I think they have more chemistry. 2. Peeta’s love for her is more pure and true. He just wants her to be happy. Whereas Gale is jealous and wants her to pick him regardless of what makes her truly happy. 3. Gale is a jackass.

If you view it as a punishment to the districts being the objective, then the gamemakers’ interventions make more sense

Never gonna forget when I saw Lenny Kravitz in La. I was STUNNED. Some guy asked him for a pic and I kept walking, staring with my mouth open. His whole vibe and body language was just COOL. Shades on, leather jacket, suede shoes. Will alwaysssss regret not at least saying what's up 😭

In the book, Gale was caught selling a turkey I believe by the peace keepers. Thus him being found getting whipped.
