I have been using henna on my hair for about 12 years since I turned grey. I use it about every 4 weeks depending on how fast my hair grows. I use a different brand Rainbow in the light brown-which is a nice shade of golden red on the grey hair. I mix the henna with a bit of cider vinegar and hot water, I don't let it sit-I put it right on. Oh and if I don't want the ends darker-after a while the ends will get darker than the roots and you want to avoid that as it looks odd, you can either use the blonde or neutral henna on the ends and the darker color on the roots OR just use some thick conditioner on the ends and only henna the roots. I found the easiest way to put it on is to use a little paint brush, I do the roots first then work the rest through my hair I don't have as much hair as you so its not to hard or time consuming. But I thin out a couple of elastic edged shower caps on. then a heavier reusable shower cap. I then after putting a plastic bag on the pillow and a towel over that go to bed. I was actually surprised it didn't bother me at all to sleep in. In the morning it is ready and I use conditioner to help rinse it out it really helps to get it all. You can if it is really bad actually use shampoo, I find the blond one Cassia Obovata to be REALLY hard to get off my hair so usually have to resort to shampoo And conditioner if I use it. I even started using the henna on my eyebrows, it doesn't take nearly as well on the course hairs. I do find that by doing it this way I don't have to worry about it on my skin so much it washes right off. Perhaps I need to do the do ahead for my eyebrows? I used to do it just an hour but I find it is a richer color the longer it is left on the hair. But it is lovely how it makes the hair feel so silky and tangle free. Especially with my grey hairs that now have some curl to them-almost kinky around my heck. The henna helps. I love the henna on you it really is a lovely shade and the bangs are cute..
These are some great tips, thank you!! I didn't know about neutral henna, but it's very handy to know. Putting it on overnight seems like a great idea! I'll have to try that next :) I agree, I'm loving how soft and resilient my hair feels with henna!
