Hahahah so very true! If I need a sharp dose of reality I explain it to my girlfriend and while I explain the new gear I normally feel dumb about my reasons and swiftly remove it from my shopping cart 😂😂

Love this, mate! I’ve learned a lot of these same lessons and wasted a lot of money on a lot of unnecessary gear. Thankfully expensive mistakes usually only have to be learned once in order to stick 😂

Hahaha, love it. I’ve found that although it’s not the sexiest thing, audio and lighting gear that improve your work flow and cut down on editing time are usually ACTUALLY good buys. Which is ironic because I’d much rather buy cameras and lenses 😂

I think it would be a good idea for you to make a video on the must have gear. Not basically the " cheapest " like everyone does, but the options that you think that will be a step into the right direction like the F6 recorder that you showed.

Absolutely Gary 📸 these feverish marketing campaigns from manufacturers and online personalities on the latest and greatest definitely push people into making poor choices and spending what they don't necessarily have 😬 without the possibility of financial return form using it got work. @@CreativeConnor tbf the clarity of images I took with the Nikon's compared to the GX9 was poor, even taken of the same buildings! IBIS and the sensor rendering was a shock.. remarkable...

I have always enjoyed macro, bought compact cameras with good macro capabilities. For my second system camera I finally invested in the Panasonic 45mm macro, at that point in time about €1000. Then I ended up terrified of using it, and to this day, almost a decade later, I still haven't explored the possibilities of it fully. 😳 I should get on that I guess.

A guilt I'm all too familiar with.. sometimes there's an overwhelming fear of new gear that it's too pricey to risk or you'll never get good with it.. so it just wastes away 😒 ive had to think of it as tools and not my babies hahaha that's the only way 😬📸

Silliest thing I've bought? probably my ATEM Mini (a HDMI multicam interface). It was just as the quarantine was starting. A couple of YT vids on what it can do, a brainwave idea that after the lockdown it's exactly what will be needed - the future of castings, self-tapes, even lo-budget shoots, and ca-ching... It's sitting on my shelf in it's box since it arrived. I did set it up once, and thought... "Erm... Yeah..." . This is not to mention my dolly track... I mean tracks. Oh, God, now I've started thinking about all the other stuff... ;-)

I kind of feel that way about my Gimbal, BUT we don’t have rental stuff in our town. So in the end had I not had the gimbal there’s a bunch of work I would have miss3d out on. Same for buying a second camera. Anyways, everything is so expensive, I’m trying to maximize what I have.

I am currently congratulating myself on NOT making an offer on an Atomos Ninja V that had no bids . . . . I might get it all for a really good price though . . . . . And how will that improve your current workflow on your GH5? . . . . . Well ummmm errrrr!

Connor Dunne I know it’s a good piece of kit but for now I make use of an iPad mini and the Field Monitor app (which has remote operating and histogram and false colour and LUTs) which is bigger and lighter and no fan noise and I also use the iPad with my drone. An SSD can hold more data than a SDXC card but I just bought another Lexar Pro V60 128gb 1667x card (for only £29) which accepts the 4k 10bit All-i from the GH5! Accepting that the Ninja V can record pro-res 422 (which would not need to be optimised in FCPX) and overcomes the 30 min recording limit of the G9. So definitely worth it if my A cam was a G9.

I know what you mean! For a few weeks I was strangely productive .. but definitely hit a hard patch recently which took some momentum away from making videos 🙄 can't wait for a lift in some restrictions
