Hi Scotty, I've been watching your videos for quite some time, and was wondering if you could share your input on my situation. I bought a 1st Generation Toyota Highlander (2007 V6) with 180k miles and the transmission fluid has not been changed since 30k. Should I get the transmission fluid changed and if so, should I do a drain and fill or a flush? I went to a transmission mechanic near me and he said that I should not change the fluid. The fluid is not fully black yet and the car shifts fine.

Changed my timing belt on my 2007 Honda Odyssey myself. $250 parts, time: free, father son time: priceless. Don't get a 2007-2011 Camry, with the 4 cylinder 2AZ-FE engine. It had an oil leak, past the rings. There was a recall for it. Had one, do your research. Ran great, just poured oil in it. Not worth the engine rebuild. If it didn't get totaled, I'd still have it today.

Excellent advice. I used to have a GMC 1500 Sierra and the automatic transmission shifted terribly up and down from day one. When I traded it in for a Toyota Highlander Limited Edition, I was on my third differential. Also, I had a GM credit card with which one earned points that could be redeemed for the purchase of another GM/GMC vehicle up to $3,500. Then, those creeps changed the contract and the points were only redeemable for cars that didn't sell. NEVER AGAIN GM/GMC.

Americans in general make a bog deal out of Hemi. Back in the mid 1970's my Dad's Alfa Romeos (he had 5 of them) all had hemispherical combustion Chamber, Twin Cams, Twin Carbs (either Dellorto, Webber or Solex) and PER LITER OF DISPLACEMENT they made more horsepower than all American hemi engines which were all pushrods. So yea Big deal about Hemi.

Scotty - those dust shields should be thought of as ball joint shields. When you're hard in a braking zone and the rotors are glowing red that piece of metal shields the ball joints and other suspension components from heat. If the brake ducting is designed well, it can keep the other side hundreds of degrees cooler and help the air push out through the wheel. See the Corvette J56 system that is nearly a complete seal with the wheel face.

I also changed my Audi’s transmission fluid and filter at 110k with no problem. I did not change my bmw at 200k for fear it would cause a problem but it is going ok so I will let it ride. You are one of the few people who have no interest to favor one car over the other. But when people who don't want to hear it because of their lack of understanding that, the cars that have been looked at in our society as a measure of success, require a lot more than just gas. If you ever buy a Honda pilot those have the J35 A9-Z1 with the timing belts that need to be replaced and changed out every 7 years, 100,000 miles. If you ever look at one make sure that it has been replaced or changed out if not you want to get that done as soon as possible. I have an 2007 Honda pilot with 276,000 miles my timing belt was done 6 years and 82,000 miles ago at 194,000 January 2018 and I’m thinking about getting it done in a few months and it’s gonna cost me $1499.95 for the timing belt kit at the Honda dealership plus the $550.00 for the valve adjustment in bank one and 2 with new valve cover gaskets so we’ll see how it goes when I get it done for $2100 roughly

Maintenance is very, very important. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L engine and the 545RE transmission. It’s solid but you need to follow the “extreme”. Operating guidelines for lubrication. If so you will have no issues. Problems are a lot of Jeep owners drive it for 80-100k miles and change no fluids of any kind. They don’t replace shocks, diff, trans, or transfer case oils suspension parts, hoses, it’s a shocker. Good maintenance, synthetic oils and you are good.

@irish6976

All the tow button does is smooth out the transmission shifts so you are not constantly downshifting or upshifting under load! Less strain in the power train, it puts you into a different rev range with a higher higher rpm and horsepower curve. It does not increasing the Gross Vehicle tow weight beyond that listed for your vehicle!

@5:30 It is about the experience, not horsepower figure, unless you go bonkers and tune it for the dragstrip. That applies as much to the V8s as it applies to the V12s. As long as there is still demand for it, they are going to be produced.

@@hypermiler12314 Not familiar with that motor. But, a Carter 1-barrel and iron head sounds like something I'd be excited about! Keep them simple and they will last forever. Chevy 'stovebolt,' Toyota 2F, simple.

I have a car, a V6 and I do max 5K miles and have the oil change 18 months apart, highest grade synthetic (not cheap) as recommended by the manufacturer. Also oil filter of course. If I keep this from now on, am I doing anything wrong? The engine has a good reputation and can easily do 200K+ Miles. The car has 65K Miles on the clock. Our climate is similar to south California.
