He also got hit with a fluke tbh. The way the car just hooked up on that rubber at the start was insane 🤣 about sent him into the wall right out the gate.
As an Australian it makes me proud to see the Americans stepping up their burnout game. Its sick to see you guys building dedicated burnout cars and throwing proper tip-ins. Your starlet would be right at home at Summernats Steve, great work mate 🤙
Listening to Steve describe his experience is HILARIOUS! Just the BEST! Sorry that everything got banged up. Your initiation to a Cletus McFarland event sure was a rough one! I hope you plan on returning and get some redemption! Man! your videos are so good!
Steve - I am deeply compelled to comment on this video from a very different angle. All that excitement all that chaos and you (and Cleetus) never used any foul language in your video. You are the man!! It shows integrity, intelligence and true family value. Thank you ever-so-much for your commentary and to still provide a very entertaining show was awesome. Thank you...
I mean, I feel bad for how you felt after the burnout, but guy, did you ever send it, that was one hell of a burnout. That is going to turn into a hell of a gift for the lenders. You rock Steve!
I couldn't believe how quick you were running for another car in the race after that insane crash... So thankful you walked away although I'm sure you're pretty sore but its better than pretty much any other scenario...
that's what I said too, but I worked my ass off and now have all my parts built big block tbs 250 hi helix blower, powerglide w/brake, 9", and all chromolly cage. to build a big tire drag car car. started fabrication just last month looking to be driving by this time next year! anything is possible man. 👍
Steve, if you ever decided to hold “classes” to teach just a fraction of your knowledge, I’d try like hell to go to them. Your ability to teach helps me understand things much better than anyone else has when explaining things.
Your a good man and surround yourself with good people , the car can be fixed . That was an awesome rip especially for your first time on a burnout pad.
Yeah Steve I think seeing where you're going is the hardest part about doing a burnout. I think the guys that are good at it have plan a route where they can pull through there smoke to see where they're going and then do it again and then pull out of there smoke and see where they're going that's the key. Obviously harder to do than it sounds
So good to see you out there! When I heard you say you built the car with nearly everything being borrowed I thought oh know! This could go bad in so many ways! I just hoped that you and everyone that loaned stuff knew what could happen.
That race was awesome, too bad they ran out of cars. I loved how you were ready to keep going after that hit, Nascar would have sent you to the med center for a check-up after a hit like that & you were ready to keep racing. Kudos man.
Glad to see you get out of the car and jog down the track after that crash, you worried me for a bit waiting for you to exit. It was a great event and the weather was perfect.
Seeing Steve's smile when he got out the car even if he crashed had an amazing time even in the interview after hahaha that's so fun to see, the adrenaline rush is something special .
Awesome seeing you out there, sucks hitting the wall but you definitely put it into perspective how difficult those burnout contests are. Can’t wait to see the rebuild!
Glad to see you're doing good after both of those accidents! Hope your not throwing in the towel on the burnout rivals, sounds like another fun, challenging skill to learn. >:) Reason being: if anyone can figure out how to keep an engine cool, and together while staying pegged in it's powerband for 3 to 5 minutes straight,......well, who does stuff like that?
They've been doing it in Australia for 30+ years. Methanol to keep it cool. Low revs to avoid breaking parts from banging the limiter constantly. Tall gearing because wheel speed is what makes smoke. Ski boat engines are probably the closest to the type of build you want. Designed to sit in a rev range for a long period of time.
the onboard shots say it all. there was like, 0.3 of a second there where you could see through the smoke. i guess thats the skill in it. knowing where you are and positioning yourself so you get those short glimpses of your surroundings. gotta be suuuuuuper aware of where you are, what the car is doing and your surroundings. especially when youre driving a car that can make that much smoke so quickly and easily.
No that burnout was the most Entertaining burnout I've ever seen and the number one thing is to entertain the fans and Steve you did it perfect!!!! Hell ya brother you were sending for Dale!!!
Thanks for adding to the show. I was there, and had a blast. I was sitting near that corner you wrecked, and it was one hell of a hit. Glad the car kept you safe.
My all time favorite video so far!! I've always wondered what the burnout competition was REALLY like and now I know. Sorry about the little burnout car but I'm sure you guys will make it better than ever! Most importantly I'm glad you out your beliefs even when things don't go quiet like you planned.
you gave it hell, looks like you had an absolute blast happy that you're okay from the other accident in the crown Vic . I have to say I'm looking forward to the build video. thanks for sharing with us
Holy crap! You had quite a weekend. I know you felt terrible about crashing the Starlet, and I also know you will make it right. Can't wait to see the Crown Vic video now. Take care!
For somebody new to burnouts ( from an Australian ) you showed a lot of promise. There were moments where you were using the whole pad and moving the smoke around like a proper skid lol. Keep it up. Most of the burnout cars limit the amount the butterflies can open to allow for not only more control but also a longer burnout.
Good stuff Steve. I spent endless hours as a kid thrashing old starlets on country roads here in New Zealand. That short wheelbase does makes them pretty hectic
I love it, the little version of the wagon. You went full on Australian , you win in my book. Australians set the bar for this crazy burnout stuff. I think you’ve come the closest to what they do. Basically a stupid ass looking really small car with a friking engine that looks like it should be in a top fuel dragster. You nailed it. Basically from my observations, you want your vehicle to look like a crazy 1970’s car concept t shirt, that actually is real, and screams
I love your honest take on the burnout competition. I often wondered myself how you could see the barriers. I don't get why they can't at least put some strobes or something down the line to at least give you a chance to see a light. Glad you're ok.
One thing that could be done to help with smoke...depending on wind, have about 15 big barn fans to create a 20 mph wind across pad to clear the smoke. Just anchor/fasten them on top of wall, create a breeze. Very simple, and not terribly expensive. Or just have a company come in for that evening with big air movers. Much safer for driver and can possibly save some cars from major damage.
Whoah! Steve did it like Mick Brasher. Tiny box car with a rowdy engine. That must be a total assault on the senses. Such a short wheelbase with so much power, on such a sticky surface.
Awesome buddy glad you are ok after the wreck in the big race you’ll get it next time I have faith you will build his car back better than ever and Dave’s wife will love it thanks for sharing
You did well Steve, the whole time I'm watching I'm thinking how the F do you know where you are in that burnout box 🤣 damage doesn't look too bad and you guys are more than capable of sorting it
For your first ever that was a pretty awesome effort, very impressive, most ppl don't understand how hard it actually is. Down here you watch the Summer Nats etc and they make it look so easy. Once you've done it a few times and got use to things you start understanding roughly where the car is, but it's normally not something you can jump into and get right off the bat.
Hey Steve, fellow Michigan guy here I got to meet you At Bristol I had you autograph a piece of wood that I brought, (matched the car pretty well)🤣 it was really cool to meet you and Kyle and it was awesome to see you burnout and race, too bad about the wrecks, but hey it looked awesome doin it. Thanks Steve, Ben Jones.
The aussie trick for the burnout when it's smokey is to watch the sky, sounds weird but it helps orientate you, and check landmarks in the sky (light poles n such)
Toyota startlet are no joke . They are so wild and light . They hold a lot of world records . I am so pumped you built one into a burnout car . Can't wait to see when you put a smx in 😮😮😮😮😮
LOVE the carnage of that hydraulic car, noone else showed it breaking in their clips 😂 Love the extended shot of the sxs blog boys. And that slow-mo shot you did of the rat rod was mint 👌
Now why do you LOVE seeing someone tear up their equipment? Doesn't matter who it is or what car it is, money was still spent. Idk you at all, its like your house burning down and me celebrating it. Just not cool
@@asylumental you celebrated one. There were many. All im saying is if you love carnage, maybe its time you build one of these cars and go destroy it. That way people can cheer and laugh at your pain. You call me "that guy" and your name is mental asylum?? Now thats funny 😂😂😂😂
When I first saw the name I cannot lie I thought it said “Sphincter” (yeah I’m a little weird) which would be a perfect name for this little beast. Pucker up! BTW, I love the idea of the turning brake. Get that sucker spinning like a top on a fast tip in!
That is amazing how honest you can be about something that is very new to whatever and you can tell that it had you mentally and emotionally by the way that you were left speechless by the whole situation.... For a person who is so knowledgeable on a motor and so confident to put yourself in such a situation then it makes you realize how humble you have to be on some things and how humbling a particular sport or entertainment could make you... I'm impressed by everybody who stood behind you and I'm even more impressed that you're willing to stand up which I never had a doubt for.... By the way it was a really cool setup between car and the combination of engine parts but the key to remember is watch where the wind is blowing and know where you want to place your vehicle at so that way you're always in the wind and that way you will always have a clear sight but if you think that's bad picture drifting at 100 and something miles an hour with smoking your face that's the dicey part
Glad to see the crash (on the roundy round) didn't leave you tainted. Some people are like "ok, that's enough for me!" I hope to see you back, and maybe even back to slay that burnout dragon!
Glad you're safe and well, steve. The car will be fixed and it will make a great videos for us to watch too. thanks to all who helped steve get everything together for him to take part in this opportunity 🙏 🙌
Dunno about that, cleetus was kinda a joke when he went to summer nats, he has improved a ton since then but he still rarely does a skid without touching the wall which is a major no no in Aussie contests, he is probably about even skill wise with a 17yr d Australian kids 😂
@@sergev7828 ha e you seen neighbor and toast? Both are missing large parts because he can't keep them off the wall, I love cleetus and he is an awesome driver, but dude is not on par with the Aussies, he is super entertaining but ya can't be good at everything.
@@rileymannion5301 yeah he has talent for driving, but he also gets more opportunity to practice by having endless budget to fix things when accidents do happen, I love the guy and he is so fun to watch, but it does irritate me how people fangirl and think he is the greatest driver to ever live
Wow, 48 seconds ago this posted? How fortuitous! A beer and some Steve "boost er till she blows" Morris, just kidding man, that starlet is dope. Splinter is a cool name for that thing too!
The way you treat something borrowed is what I have been trying to teach my kids when we go to places. Always leave something better than when you found it.
Wow, now that was different! wish i was there. You would have been safer in your comfort zone drag racing. I was at Indy for the NHRA nationals. great show. Maybe next year you and some other SMX owners can show drag and drive cars at the 70th annual nationals.
I cant wait to see what this blast of fresh experience will do for Steve, I can literally hear his brain spinning with new and awesome ideas for "things"💡. I cant recall seeing him pumped this much, its crazy😂
Steve you've got some great friends and fans. That Cleetus show was awesome. The bigger the crash or engine blowing up wins the most hearts. I loved it. I didn't think the Twisted Tea car wreak was that bad but your footage of it blew me away. Holy crap! I'm going to rewatch the show right now.
It was awesome to see you participate in cleetus and cars, hopefully you'll be hooked now! Your a hell of a stand up guy steve, I wouldn't want anyone else running my stuff or on my team.
"Let me tell you something, A Knife, a Fork, a Vodka and a Cork. That's the way we spell New York" For a moment there, Steve I thought you were channeling Dillinger's song:, Cocaine In Ma brain(1977.) You were still "wired" when you got back to Michigan following the burn out contest and the race. Keep up the great work with your channel. Always look forward to your instructional videos. You never stop impressing me, .in your very humble way and personality.
Oh yeah, that was accident waiting to happen. Very short car and all that power, all the smoke comes in the car. Awesome looking Starlet, I’m glad you’re going to fix it. One thing I don’t like about those burnout comps, you see absolutely nothing. Just a pile of smoke and then crashed car at the end. Drifting is more entertaining as you see the cars doing the burnouts.
