I’m from a country where African people are very welcome and loved ones. I hadn’t even known that some of the questions were sensitive before I went to the US for a summer. When I was there, I met with a black person and said her I liked her hair. I was so real. Because I wanted to make my hair braid. And she looked at me so weird. It was embarrassing for me. And then I couldn’t continue asking which hairdresser she was going? I normally tell my friends if I like their hairs or ask for hairdressers. But I learned it’s a touchy subject in the US. I think, because of the this shameful history, people are so sensitive. And it’s quite understandable.

If you lived around a lot of black people and the culture... it is different in the US because we have been shamed and fettished and unwelcomely touched by people who don't know us or the culture. Then they tell us our hair is like animal hair and get their hair styled like us as a fad. We have been kicked out of schools and denied jobs because of it. So coming to the US you will get a poor response from the average black person.

Tabitha Akers People stereotype a lot not just white people, I'm brazilian and lived in italy for a long time and was stereotyped, everyone thought I danced samba, lived in a favela in Rio and didn't knew what cold was, it was annoying as hell, and when I got back to Brazil I was stereotyped for had lived in Italia, everyone always ask me if I only eat pasta/pizza/lasagna and fake a Napoli accent after they ask me if I can speak italian, it pisses me off every time

My husband is a "daywalker" as South Park puts it, a ginger without face freckles. And he does have them below the neck on his shoulders mainly, his chest and his upper arms. But he always gets the "If you're a REAL ginger then where are your freckles?!" They assume his hair color isn't natural either. I've been with him 11 years now and not once has he ever dyed his copper red hair lol.

Lmao same, when I was 12 my mom decided we should get Chinese and we ended up finding this family owned restaurant. I’m ginger ginger so when we walked in as the only white people you could hear a pin drop. We get sat right next to this bigger family and every eye is on us. Videos making jokes about minorities, white people tell them to "get over it, it's just a joke." Video turning that rhetoric around on white people, "stfu, how come only whites get racism these days, and not minorities?" And yes, that's not all white people, just some that do this. I expect people replying angrily will be those very racists. These aren't "white" jokes just making fun of white people. They are direct reversals of comments that are quite often made to black people, which is why there is no "If White people Said the Stuff Black People Say..." because again, that happens in real life.

We shouldn't equate children's innocent curiosities with adults being rude and inconsiderate. Children generally get a pass with these types of things, no matter the color, because we know they truly mean no harm. Adults SHOULD have enough social awareness to know that it's not ok to touch any part of someone without their consent. The biggest problem that is highlighted in this video is that often (not always) white people don't ASK before they touch someone's hair, they just do it. It's ok to ask, it's not ok to just dig into someone's hair because you feel like it.

debbie Akadely I've never done this seriously. I've only joked about these types of things, as pretty much every person from every race makes jokes about other races. Also just to point out, when you generalize and say "a white person" you are calling out whites that don't even live in America. I know this might be annoying to say, but technically, England was the first country to abolish slavery, meaning that white people also took a stand against racism long before any other race did, so we aren't really all bad, and we shouldn't all be ashamed of something we have said in the past. Every race should be proud of the things their ancestors have done that were good but remember not to boast about it.

I was looking at it like, its an ongoing cycle, racist parents raise their children to believe their racist views, those children grow up, they go through life hating people for the most ignorant reasons (stereotypes and generalised hate toward certain groups of people), sooner or later they have children of their on, they pass on what their parents taught them, and sadly the the cycle starts over again.

***** Despite how curious you may be, that doesn't give you automatic permission to breach a someone's personal space. And on top of that, compliment you with some kind of fetishized bullshit like "It's softer than most races". Like excuse you? She isn't some toy or pet dog that anyone has simple access to. If a black man goes up to a white man and says, when i think of you i dont think of you as a (white man) i just think of you as my brother. I was thinking that at some point in my white life I might have said one of these things and I know I was very young. It's strange what kids will say and if you are like me and grew up out in the country you never had a chance to grow up with people from other races you might ask stupid questions! Maybe people need to grow up with people from all races so they aren't this stupid! I specifically remember asking a girl about her hair because I was curious! I don't wash my hair every day and I have had people say Ewww too! My hair gets too dry if I do. Many people are just ignorant when they are young. I also think some people might say some of these things while trying to make the other person feel more comfortable around them or trying to go out of their way to make sure you know that they like rap or curly hair, tan skin but they don't know how to just talk! People need to realize that it's not ok to touch someone's hair no matter how much you want to.

white people tend to relate racism to hurt feelings, but people of color do not have the rights to be racist. racism is an institution. native Americans, blacks, etc do not have the political power to take white people from their homes or kill their mothers and fathers and children in the name of manifest destiny. We do not have the power to create laws that will set white people back hundreds of years. people of culture cannot be racist. prejudice, yes. Racist no. Is reverse bullying real? No. You get bullied and you fight back, that's defense. reverse racism does not exist either, our people were and still are mistreated so it's defense to show white people what we receive in certain ways.

Oh come on, don't act like hardly any black people in this day and age haven't experience extreme racism. Honestly, if you're not black you'll never get it. Just accept that. I've seen videos, performances, skits, and stand-up of people of many races, white, latino, asian, indian, other blacks, etc. making jokes about black people in the way we are, stuff we say, and how we act, and I think they're gold and so hilarious and so do other black people. We don't complain about HALF the racism we enoucther because honestly hardly any other race seems to give a shit because they think "Oh its 2014, things aren't like that anymore." For example, I would never use my struggles in life, the racism I've encounter, to invalidate any suffering you've experienced in your life, no matter what they are. Ziggy Zaggy I have actually had tons of these kinds of comments directed at me, and I'm only part-black. The hair thing used to happen so often that I started enforcing a strict arms-length personal space rule. The music one also happens a fuck ton as I don't listen to half the shitty things that I'm supposed to listen to according to the stereotypes. If you think no one speaks this way, it is because you aren't the kind of person who they would speak to like this (read: white) or because you live in an area where there is a nice amount of racial diversity. The kinds of people who make these comments (regardless of their race) are usually those who were raised in a community composed primarily of their race.

I don't know man, I disagree. I don't like it because I'd never say any of this garbage to a black person. None of my friends would either. The only people I've ever heard seriously say these things were very ignorant. Recently people are saying that black people can't be racist because they are the oppressed race. The world view is that ONLY white people are capable of racism. I'm afraid that this video adds to that view. I'm afraid that even though I don't make peoples skin color a major topic, I'll be lumped in with whites that do simply because of my own skin color.

I don't think I can recall ever making comments like this because most of these I just view as rude in general, but I've received comments like the parody ones in this video all the time. "If Black People Said The Stuff White People Say" should be changed to "Rude People Saying Rude Shit." Sure, not all white people do this, but it sort of implies that whites never receive comments like these from other races. While it does put things into perspective for people who make these comments, I doubt the people who say crap like this are really interested in watching a video about it or changing their ways.
