I like how Gru is the only villain until now to ever get pardoned, and he deserves it.

That fact that The Onceler is one of the few villains in this series that could realistically serve their full sentence is a hilarious parallel to how actual companies in real life that endanger nature also get few repercussions for their actions

What i love is that the onceler's sentence is realistic, not something like "10 trillion years," but rather something that in some cases isn't even as large of a sentence as what has been dealt out in real life. kinda fits the whole point of the movie pretty well

Watching El Macho surpass the Onceler's sentence in like 10 seconds is absurdly funny

I love have El Macho's first action on screen immediately outdoes the Onceler's entire career.

I find it hilarious that El Macho, in the span of 5 seconds, not only surpassed, but literally doubled the Once-Ler's charges.

It’s funny because the onceler literally said to the Lorax “I haven’t done anything illegal” even though he did multiple illegal things.

i'd like to point out 3 other things once-ler did - first he deliberately drops an item (i think it was an axe or maybe a hammer) on the baby barbaloot after distracting lorax, which would probably be considered battery - right after that he tries to blame said barbaloot and claim that it chopped that tree, which could be considered an attempted frame-up - and shortly after that he was threatening lorax with said object, which is intimidation ("I would gladly pound you and your moustache into the ground!")

It is a crime that "having Tumblr fangirls" was not a crime for Oncler.

I don’t think the Once-ler is truly a “villain”, he’s just a portrayal of when people let greed take control of their lives.

Its interesting how technically the onceler could get away with most of his crime since the point of the song is that that is what most large companies actually do in real life

It might be a stretch, but the poisoning of the minions could've also been categorized as mutilation, as El Macho disfigured them in a way that would've been permanent without the antidote created by Dr. Nefario, which El Macho never intended them to get.

You forgot one for El Macho. When he shows off his chest tattoo of the Mexico flag to Gru and Lucy, Gru is very uncomfortable, so it could be a charge of indecent exposure, which would nail him 5 months in jail and a $2,000 fine

Actuality, you missed quite a few ones for the onceler. Here’s the real amount of crimes he committed: -Charity Fraud -OSHA Violations -Slander -Illegal Logging -Pollution -Eco Terrorism -Abuse -Assault And Battery -Reckless Endangerment -Environmental Laws -Deforestation He got most of them, but missed a couple. Its always nice to know that the villan probably needs multiple lives to live out his sentences

Technically the Lorax could get a similar prison sentence as the Once-ler since in the movie he puts the Bed that the Once-ler is sleeping on into a river, which is not only unlawfully driving someone off their land, but could be charged as attempted murder, leading the Lorax to be given a 5-15 year prison sentence and a 50 - 100,000 fine!

El Macho should also get charged with attempted fraud when he kidnaped the minions in the ice cream truck. Mainly because it was a fraudulent scheme to bait them into going near the ice cream truck, which was an attempt to use intentional deception to gain something of value.

Love how Gru's sentences went from 91 years + Factory shutdown, to nothing, and went back to a factory shutdown, plus a $250k Lawsuit.

Potentially halving that charge. -Given how old the Onceler is, there's a chance the environmental laws might've been made after his actions. -Gru's first assault on the minor could be deemed a mutual fight given Antonio kicked his groin prior. Unnecessary as it was, that could possibly result in a lower sentence than 10 years.

I wonder how the Once-ler's crimes would change if the original version of "How bad can I be" was reviewed. In it, he admits he knew that creatures were dying through his habitat destruction, and didn't care. He's far more culpable in that version.

Gru getting pardoned is really funny since stealing the moon is by far the worst crime out of any villain since it would lead to mass animal species extinction, make some regions on earth completely unlivable due to climate, and it might even lead to a civilisation endangering ice age.

I do have a defense for El Macho (even though it’s not gonna do much) this also applies to the Onceler: They have been in hiding for definitely more than seven years, which is long enough for it to be looked over I’m pretty sure, unless they did something serious like kill someone. They were considered dangerous and did endanger people but weren’t shown actually killing them or causing too much damage to them.

Very interestingly enough, when The Lorax was released Universal, who released this film along with all other Illumination movies, celebrated its 100th Anniversary, whereas its 75th Anniversary was celebrated in 1990, even though it was in 1987, given that Universal was established in 1912, just 15 days after the Titanic disaster.

In my opinion the thing where he turns the minions into the purple things would be biological warfare (for reasons I would struggle to explain) which is (I think) against the Geneva convention, thus making El Macho a war criminal, and rather than him having such a sentence, would most likely be put to death via electric chair

gru's "assault of a minor" can be partially justified by self defense as it is around half of what the minor did.

Huh I learned something new thru the Onceler’s crimes. I’ve always wondered why trees are still around when we need wood for many different things. I never knew it was actually a law for logging companies to plant new trees. I’d say kidnapping x2 + 1 unintended kidnapping/animal abuse charge for the poor kitty the minion grabbed onto. El Macho is also mutilating the minions by altering their bodies. You used this charge before on other criminals that altered the physical appearance of their victims.

The factory is also under Gru’s home which is probably a zoning code violation in both local and California state laws meaning his home would probably have to be demolished with the factory along with a fine. I wish I had Minions, they'd be extremely helpful not only around my palace but also working on our missile program. They have the spirit to protect a country against a big threat.

Considering how El Macho’s sentence consists of 200 years, that’s roughly two lifespans. Makes sense.

Oncler was not a villian in fact he was a victim. He attempted to sell his product but no-one would buy until they realised it was good. They wanted more practically forcing him to chop down all the trees they never cared. As the saying goes "if someone like you doesn't care an awful lot it's not going to get better it's not" - Dr Seuss.
