Nice to see someone of your mechanical caliber taking time to school us part-time back yard wrench turners!! Thanks very much cause it saves us big money with shop rates the way they are now days. Again, thank you!!
Just to be clear, I am not a mechanic, I run a tractor scrap yard and do some repairs as well. I have picked up some knowledge along the way. I am glad you enjoy the videos, I like to help out when I can, if I can figure this stuff out pretty near anyone can! :) Thanks for watching!
I neglected to include in my comment earlier today that my 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manuf in Great Britain has only 1 rear PTO shaft (I guess it is the top one) rather than having 2 rear PTO shafts. How is the 1 rear PTO clutch for the 1 PTO shaft -- the top one -- accessed and removed? Thank you.
Hey Dave, something I would add to the how to crank a tractor instructions would be to keep your cranking hand thumb pointed toward the tractor along the crank handle. If the crank kicks back the thumb doesn't get hit. You probably do that without thinking.
I wondered have you done a vidio on a 2500 series with the foward/reverse shuttle clutchpack repair that would boost my confidence to do mine considerably
Having just done my PTO clutch, I would like to offer some suggestions. If your machine does not have a lower PTO shaft sticking out, when taking the shaft out, dont bother with trying to get the circlip /s off by the b earing, the whole thing comes out much more easily. The roll pin can be a problem, I put a chalk mark on the shaft and housing when reassembling and that gave me a clue as to where it all went. When putting the roll pin back, I used a soft brass drift, that made it easier as the brass formed its own guides on the head to hold it in the right place. I took the wheel off and the footplate as it was the only way I could get enough space, also a small stool to sit on 4 to 6 inches high makes it more workable. To get the big circlip back into the clutch was a job, I ended up grinding a notch in a set of valve spring compressors and used them to tighten up the ring and pop it into the groove. Be prepared for draining the oil there is lots of it, 3 drain plugs. It works a treat now.
@@DaffyDuc69 Yes, it surprised me, it may have a tad overfull, but not by much. Was all a bit of a waste of effort, we sold the property soon after :-) and got rid of the tractor as well. Have fun. cheers G
I have a 595 and need to replace trans/hydraulic fluid. What oil do you recommend? And is it really that important to use Hy-Tran by case as some people say and does the newer formulations not do well in the older tractors? Any info is appreciated and love the videos.
The Hy-tran oil was designed specifically for these tractors so it is best if you can get it without too much difficulty, otherwise a good TDH oil will work. Thanks for watching!
I have a 444 international. When I place lever in pto on position it makes lever jump. I feel like the pto shaft could be stripped. Could that be seen through these access ports.
A 444 does not have access panels like these tractors, if you take the PTO lever out the side you may be able to see. Usually what happens is that the splines on the PTO driving shaft and the collar get worn tapered. I have a video that shows how to get to that shaft, it goes a lot deeper but you will be able to see what it is like. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1sve9HaZMbk.html Good luck and feel free to ask questions.
I am not certain, but for a "side drive" axle I believe it may be'for the "center drive" axles the transfer case is on the bottom of the case. Thanks for watching!
Good day I'm from Ont. was that rear end from 574. I have problem when putting pto lever on , i use vice grip to push lever far enough head for full power, if you use hand on pto lever, blowing snow when it gets heavy pto stops. it's not fully engaged. Also we went on trip to East coast, boy I never s saw many trees. What part are you from THANKS
Hi Don, the rear end is from a 454, so the same as a 574. Check above the hydraulic filter on the left hand side behind the foot board. Check for anything block movement of the valve. The lever is 2 pieces held together by two bolts, it may need adjusted to get the full travel of the valve, or finally it could be the clutch pack is worn out. I am near Sussex NB, forestry is one of the major employers of the region. Thanks for watching!
hi there I have a case ih 595 4wd the pto works well when cold but as the tractor warms up the pto stops working how do i know if the clutch needs repacking or if the pump needs replacing thanks Geoff
I am having trouble reinstalling the PTO drive gear with cir-clip onto the PTO shaft. The drive gear is not sliding far enough in to expose the entire grove, as eyeless cir-clip is quite thick. This is model 85 case IH 959 1990 coming up from the bottom of range transmission, not much room to tap or pry...
Hi Dave I have a problem with my lift in my 574 it won't go down I removed the lift cover to replace the handbrake band now I have done this before and had no problem. Please don't tell me I have to take it off again Regards P.J Donnellan
Unfortunately you probably have to take the lift unit off again, something may have gotten bumped or damaged when it was off. Check out the linkage from the levers to the cylinder etc. Thanks, for watching!
I've got a 95 Case 495, the PTO is always stuck on, lever doesn't do anything. Its just always on whenever you turn the tractor on. Do you think it's because the clutch disks are locked together? Thanks.
How do you take the 540 pto out? Can you do it with out taking top cover off. There is one snap ring behind the gear. I really dont want to take the whole top cover off.
I have a 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manufactured in Great Britain. When rotary mowing waist high fescue or other pasture grasses or thick grass the rotary mower's (bush-hog), (a Hardee Model # T-972-LT) cylinder/shaft and yoke stop turning the cutting blades, and the grass is not being cut. [The 90 weight gear lubricant oil has been changed on the gear box of the Hardee Model #T-972-LT rotary mower.] I have to pick up on the lift and let the rear PTO recover and start turning the rotary mower cylinder and yoke and cutting blades again. Is there a way to adjust the rear PTO clutch, or is there other action I can take on the 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor to fix or improve the problem described above? What is the problem? Is the PTO clutch slipping badly and, therefore, worn out and needing to be replaced or rebuilt? Is your video consistent with locating and removing the rear PTO clutch on a 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manufactured in Great Britain? Thank you.
Does the PTO shaft stop turning or just the gear box? The mower PTO shaft may have a slip clutch at the gear box. If the tractor PTO shaft stops turning then yes, the PTO clutch is worn and needs replaced. This video is consistent with a 684. (All tractors of this series were made in England, Doncaster I believe) Thanks for watching!
I'm assuming it is the tractor PTO shaft. However, while driving the tractor, I really can't see. The yoke from the mower gear box as well as the mower shaft and the yoke attached to the tractor with a push-pin lock stops turning. Perhaps I need to get someone else to drive the tractor and mower, and I should view from a safe distance with binoculars. I assume the tractor PTO shaft stops turning because the mower yoke -- which is attached to the tractor rear PTO shaft and connected to the tractor PTO shaft with the push-pin--stops turning, too. Please advise me how I can determine best and safely which shaft stops turning. With that universal joint on the yoke that attaches to the PTO--it should keep turning if the tractor PTO shaft continues to turn, correct?
@@joaniebowden7532 The clutch locks by hydraulic pressure so it is self adjusting to the point where you need to replace it. I would suggest that the next time it starts slipping stop the tractor leaving the PTO in gear and check if the shaft is still turning. It is a much simpler fix if it's just the slip clutch on the mower driveline.
Hello I have a case ih 995xl and the pto only works when the clutch pedal is pressed, when I let up the clutch pedal the pto stops would you know the cause ? Thanks love the videos
That's odd, seems backwards.? Perhaps the spline is worn on the pto input shaft. Does the hydraulic pump stop as well? I am glad you enjoy the videos, thanks for watching!
Have changed the hydraulic pump and its still the same , the power steering is stiff some time but have very good pressure on the hydraulics ant the lift is 100%
The good news is that the 540 shaft is a short shaft driven by a gear at the back of the differential case, the bad news is you have to remove the hydraulic lift cover to remove a snap ring behind the gear on the 540 shaft so you can remove it from the case, sorry. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I have a 374 international and it will go into gear with no load on the pto but when there is anything hooked up to the pto i cant get it to engage it just grinds the gears is there a way to clutch it
I have a Case IH 895. Looks like the access plate is on the bottom of the housing instead of the side, but my question is, I only have a PTO on the top shaft, the bottom has a cover on it. Does the same clutch operate both from the bottom and is there anything special I need to do other than what you've shown to replace my clutch discs?
The top PTO shaft is actually driven by the bottom shaft, so only one clutch. THere is a plate on the bottom, but I don't think it lines up, you have to go through the plate on the side. I believe I showed the basic steps to get the clutch pack out, to replace the disks you have to disassemble the clutch pack and change out the parts. Good luck!
Hey dave nd yur help ihave a 1974 ih. 464 i have 2 rear pto shafts 1000 on bottom an 540 shaft on top my problem is i nd 540 on bottom so my bushhog drive shaft wont rub when i let it all the way down do they make a 540 shaft that will install on bottom i know both shafts will be 540 then but it will fix my problem i hope
Hello. I have a Case IH 595. Lost all hydraulics and PTO while mowing. No noise or grinding... it just quit. The tractor does not seem to have a right side access panel. it has the MCV and pump access on the left side, under the filter can. Is that where I go into the tractor? After that, would the steps be essentially the same?
You should be able to get to everything through the MCV valve. Check for any obstruction to the hydraulic pickup. It's also possible that the PTO input shaft splines have worn, seems to me there is an inspection plate under the clutch housing you could check on that. Thanks for watching!
I'm not quite sure I understand your question but if your hydraulics aren't working I would suggest probably a worn pump, if you are talking about the hydraulic shuttle shift the likely the clutch pack is the problem. Thanks for watching!
Buen dia yo tube ese problema cuando cambie el aceite hydraulico dejo de funcionar la direcion le quite el filtro lo prendi i le estube dando buelta alado i lado asta que funciono lla que funcione le buelve a poner el filtro
