Sorry dude, but those names are terrible. The Portland Patches? The Salt Lake City Flats? The Omaha City Motives? The St. Louis Gateways?!? I could randomly fart out better names than that. "Big game this weekend between the Patches and the Flats." Come on man.
It needs some time to stick. I mean imagine how weird the chargers name was when they were founded. If this were to happen, it would take 3-5 years to make it seem normal.
St. Louis and san Diego didn’t deserve to lose their teams shitty ownership is what ruined it in those spots. Now Oakland on the other hand I don’t see ever getting a team back
I won't say San Diego deserved to lose the Chargers, but they sort of chose that path. It was starting to get in to Oakland territory and they knew full and well what was going on and what was going to happen and they kept pushing. St Louis was screwed over three different ways and hardly compares.
I would add 8 teams from the UFL/USFL so here are my 8 teams AFC North Virginia Defenders AFC South Birmingham Stallions AFC East Hartford Generals AFC West Oakland Invaders NFC North St. Louis Battlehawks NFC South Memphis Showboats NFC East Oklahoma Outlaws NFC West San Antonio Brahmas
The NFL would never take a team from another league. They have done that twice with mergers with other leagues. If they wanted to expand to any of the cities on your list, they would simply award a franchise to an owner's group, and that group would name it themselves. But no, they aren't taking another league's team names because it represents engaging in a minor league.
@@kpowers In 1946, the new Cleveland AAFC team ran a "name the team" contest in the local paper. The winner was "Panthers." Paul Brown turned that team name down because a) there was a former Cleveland Panthers team in another league that had failed and folded, and b) that Panthers team had all losing seasons. The association was enough to kill the thought process. The new Cleveland team was then named the "Browns." People with money want their own legacy.
@@barryshuck1746 I know if there was a contest to name a team St. Louis team they would probably want the Battlehawks and Birmingham would choose the Stallions (and that would probably be the same for the other teams I mentioned). For the owners, they might want to keep the names for name recognition. Of course, the team players & coaching staff would be different from current NFL players (maybe some UFL players will end up in the NFL).
@@gillroygarlic3616 Rams should stay in LA. It's been their team from the 40's to the 90's and then since 2016. The Rams should've never left LA. One team is enough for that city. The Chargers have been in LA for less than 10 years. They should be the ones to move.
@@gillroygarlic3616Oakland is falling apart, there’s a reason why all 3 professional sports teams packed up & left. The Raiders should be in LA tbh & the Chargers should go back to San Diego. Las Vegas should then get a new expansion team
Changed Omaha locos Okc twisters St louis arches Boise mountaineers Couldnt think of a way to change Portland patches Salt lake city flats Good ones San diego surfers Albuquerque cobra’s
The NFL doesn't need any expansions. They already have 30 teams, but 3 of those teams could go to the UFL. The Bobcats, the Lanterns, and the Darkowls.
I’m in the camp that says, the NFL is good where it now stands. Only thing I would expand is to 18 games, two byes, and a 16 team playoffs(although I would like to see a 20 team playoffs format). However, if the league do desire to expand and wants to increase viewership globally…then the league needs to expand more than 2 or 4 teams. I say expand by 8, to Forty Teams, increasing each of the 8 divisions from 4 to 5 teams. Now, expand 5 locations in Europe, creating their own division and the remaining three candidates, obviously on the North American continent; be it in Mexico, Canada, or just more U.S. cities. Now if the league do decide to venture into Canada, they would have to compensate the Canadian Football League for taking two or three of it cities…I don’t anticipate an issue if the NFL only snag one city. Personally, I think the League needs to stay out of Mexico, as a permanent franchise…one or two games a year, is fine. Again however, I think the league is just fine as it stands; just expand the season, imo.
My 8: St Louis Archers (imagine an arrow shooting through the Gateway to the west), Alabama Alligators (can stray away from the Florida gators), Memphis Cobras (in reference to Memphis, Egypt), San Antonio Soldiers, Utah Raptors (dinosaur literally called Utahraptors), Portland Captains (for ship captains), Oklahoma City Bandits, and Orlando Dragons (stuffed area but makes sense with Camping World Stadium here)
For St Louis if they ever come back with a football team I think they should be called the St Louis Trojans. Yes I know there's the South California Trojans.
PORTLAND-CROSSCUTTERS (in reference to their logging days) ALBURQUERQUE-THUNDERBIRDS (ties into Native roots of all of New Mexico) OKLAHOMA CITY-TWISTERS (it's tornado alley) OMAHA-MAMMOTHS or TOMAHAWKS (their old team was Mammoths and it's a cool mascot or t OMAHA wks) IDAHO (Boise)-ROCKHOUNDS or GEMCUTTERS (it is the GEM state) SALT LAKE CITY-SPIKES or EXPRESS or LOCOS (the city that connected the transcontinental railroad) ST LOUIS-SPARTANS (stick with the gatekeepers theme) SAN DIEGO-SERPENTS or DRAGONS (use a Quetzalcoatl for a logo, ties into the Mexican heritage of the city)
the cities rumors to closely might get the NFL new expansion franchise teams are London (UK), Salt Lake City, Toronto (Canada), Madrid (Spain), Mexico City (Mexico), Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Frankfurt (Germany), Barcelona (Spain)
no don't think so , i think if te nfl expands again, they will go international, london, berlin,or mexico city... san diego may be the one city they move back to.. honestly i think they are done with san diego, st.louis, and oakland..those cities you mentioned are likely to be ufl targets,if that league suceeds and is smart with expansion.
Portland Oregon nfl team should be named Portland River Hogs Salt Lake City NFL name :Utah Raptor or Salt Lake City Raptor Boise NFl name:Boise Bobcats New Mexico NFL name: NM Roadrunner Nfl team name OKC Twister Omaha explorer
Portland Pioneers New Mexico Aztecs Utah Utopians San Diego Sentinels St Louis Archangels Omaha Scarecrows Toronto Werewolves Vancouver Vanguards Montreal Skylarks
The locations are nice but some of the names are terrible! Portland: Punks, Pirates, PIranhas, Power (if you're going by P) Salt Lake: Stallions (although slightly redundant), Shock, Snakes, Serpants, Sting. STL: ArchAngels(Or Demons) I don't think Albuquerque would be able to support an NFL franchise.... way too small of a market.
The only cities that can sustain teams you mentioned are Portland, St Louis and San Diego. The rest are way too small and their economies don't meet the threshold
I will address the teams you picked. Pretty much all Western teams. Portland Patches, yikes horrible name. I know you are trying to be different but in the end people want a cool sounding name to rally behind. So for Portland, it's the Portland Pioneers. I like the snake idea for Albuquerque, but Corals??? Sound like the Ocean, let's go with the Albuquerque Rattlers instead. Boise Bobcats is not bad, but Boise Wildcats has a better ring to it. Salt Lake Flats sounds so boring, Salt Lake Silver Swords sounds better. Omaha Owls sounds better than motives. St. Louis Archers does sound better so let's stick with that. I always liked the USFL Oklahoma Outlaws, so the NFL gets the rights from FOX to use the name. Ok San Diego, telling you now everyone wants the Chargers back in San Diego, nobody wants the San Diego Surfers. So the 8th city will be Oakland (Raiders are never leaving Las Vegas) and once again we get the rights from FOX to use the Oakland Invaders.
Hate to break to you but the nfl will NEVER expand to Mexico City. Too many logistical obstacles to hurdle. San Antonio I can see but you’ll see a lot of pushback from Houston and Dallas as that’s their market territory. Imo the two teams would likely be St. Louis and Salt Lake City or if the nfl expands to outside the US maybe Toronto.
@@augmatt1399 The NFL has a working relationship with the CFL, so Toronto is a big no. As far as territorial rights for Dallas and Houston, those barriers have been broken continually over the decades. For a long time, the Redskins claimed all of the Southern states as their territory until Atlanta was granted an expansion team in 1968. When the NFL and AFL merged, they were going to force the Jets and Raiders to relocate, but passed a mandate instead to allow competing cities. Look at Jacksonville just hours from Tampa. Look at the Texans so close to Dallas. The Oilers were gone and the Cowboys could have said, hey, we own all of Texas. For that matter, the Texans are on the Saints doorstep. The Rams moving back to LA despite a team in San Diego. The Colts are a stone's throw from Chicago. The only time the NFL grants territorial rights now is within the same city. So, you won't see another NY team, or another Chicago club, or another team in Dallas.
I see the NFL going more international, adding a whole 4 team division in Europe, I would tend towards London, Manchester, Frankfurt and Berlin. That way they could group travel into 4 week home-stands and 4 weeks in N. America. Then add 4 more teams in N. America, I tend to see expansion more towards Mexico City, Toronto, San Diego and San Antonio. Today's NFL seems to want large markets, deep pockets for state of the art stadiums and travel destinations.
Expansion comes down too markets and profits can these CITIES support a new expansion TEAM are based on population and location and will it support the FAN base in the marketplace. What's the economic impact positive or negative on the TV, MARKETs, FANS in supporting expansion team. The NFL is currently studying games played international cities like LONDON, and other locations maybe because of Olympic games...I think there thinking outside the BOX here with neutral sites played to see if there a market to supports the NFL maybe Locally or international. I enjoy your creative thinking on concepts and logos well done.
Not interested in more teams in the closed league structure. Build a pyramid with pro/rel using current teams in the different leagues (both pro and minor…and screw the NFL if they don’t want to participate), then see if any additional teams are needed.
Here's some names that are, well, more appealing for your ideas Omaha Iron Horses Portland Lumberjacks St. Louis Gatekeepers Utah Miners Oklahoma Thunderbirds Not that your ideas aren't good, but i think these ones would sound a lot better in the long run
Not gonna happen. 8 teams by 2040 is 1 team every 2 years or 2 teams every 4 years. That's absolutely impossible to pull off and WAY too fast for the league to absorb even if they could. And those won't be the 8 selected no matter when or how fast they do it. San Diego and St. Louis are no-brainers and I'd say SLC and OKC would probably be safe choices too. At present, Omaha and Portland are maybes at best. We'll see how they develop in the years ahead but Albuquerque and Boise are a flat "NO" for an NFL team.

What do Orlando,San Antonio and Sacramento all have in common? They all used to have football teams. They were all in the W.L.A.F. (World League of American Football - the league went belly up during the early 90's.
For starters. 8 teams is a bit much. I like 4. Why? Because you can have 6 divisions of 6 teams. But long term 8 might work.
