Basic and Advanced modification Information on the 4l60 series transmission in general with transbrake install and explaination for a 1000 whp C6 Corvette
Good breakdown. I used a lot of the same parts in my last build, and some beefier where you went stock. I was just sick of eating these things alive in my ZR2. I did eventually decide to ditch my 5 pinion for a 6 because an opportunity presented itself and had original planned on a 4l78 ID but Mason Smith threw me a 79 at no upcharge. Randy AKA tranzman from ls1tech helped out and a ton of others. I had contacted yall but the timeliness didn't work out. In the future I will be reaching out tho 100%. Keep up the awesome quality work! Also A+++++ customer service. Yall rock
Dude that's badass. I just rebuilt mine cause the sunshell broke, but I only used oem steel/clutch set ups. With my plans for my half ton, I was ready to switch to a 4l80 because all the kits I see are rated for 450. Honestly, you guys are amazing. Keep up the good work
Great video! Cannot wait to rebuild another one of these. I may never build one for a race car but I pick up more and more assembly tips with every one I watch being built. I still want to get closer to a more comprehensive understanding of the hydrolics and what is applied when, why, how. After 30: years of diagnosis and repair of most anything we see on the everyday drivers, I think I would really enjoy rebuilding transmissions on a daily basis. Good luck with your future endeavors.......Rosco
Damnit!!! Ask Allen why he didn't upsell me on an upgrade to a Black Edition with a brake when my unit came in for a service... I'd have fallen all over myself getting my wallet out 🤣 Seriously, though... love seeing you guys put these videos out. I was actually considering swapping to an 80E with the new motor I'm building... looks like I'll be sending my unit in for an upgrade instead. -D. Conner
Greatly appreciate the upload man. Very informative. Almost Instructor like bro! If I fail with my 60e build after going through 2 of these and Almost 3rd, same truck, I was contemplating a 80E swap because I trust no shop near me let alone abroad. Truly hope I succeed but if not, you have convinced me there is hope for this transmission model and a reliable builder. Thank youuuu!!! - From SC
I had 2 4L60E transmissions to burn the 3-4’s and the last guy I had rebuild my trans said to by-pass the radiator “Cooler” and put a large fluid cooler in front of the radiator. My trans has not had any issues since. It now has 163,000 miles.
I like the videos you make. You do come off like a cocky jerk but with that being said, you are in a business. If you gave away everything then people wouldnt want to buy your stuff. You do give great info and personal thoughts on things. I can understand how frustrating it is when you hear stuff over and over that just isnt true, you just want to scream and let people know the truth. Thank you for all the info you do share. To those who get butt hurt when he dont give away some detail, go buy his transmission. Simple as that. Now if i had the cash id buy one just because i want one built by someone who takes pride in their work as i can tell you do.
I appreciate that and yes i am working on toning it down but it is very frustrating most days when half the world has their ears and minds closed and just tells me im wrong despite what im doing right and how they are failing. Working on it and i appreciate your unbiased understanding
yes we do and we even have a video on our youtube on it. its probably the only build video of the 2004r on the internet. i personally have one in my 85 buick
We have been building the Black Edition and selling them for almost 6 years with no failures in 1200 plus applications. Visit facebook for the slips and dyno sheets.
Need some advice doing the sonnax shell on my build which way do I set the sonnax bearing at? Teeth down or above I dropped my roller clutch in and started second guessing it I put teeth down I think the planetary engaged but this is my first build thanks.
@@PerformaBuiltTransmissions I know that but I was just making sure I had the bearing flipped the right way because sonnax bearing has the flat end on thier bearing.I ended up getting it I think teeth had to be on the bottom side of the bearing to activate the planetary. I appreciate the response thank you good video took a few pointers from it.
Kind of a useless modification. They don't really do anything but the pinless kit in general firms up the 1-2 shift and 4th apply. Ours are firmed up in other aspects through our own shift kit so its something very unnecessary in our build. They add no real performance. A good oem piston and pin prevents leaks, is less expensive, and does the same job.
I noticed replacing two steels for the wave plate on the low/reverse. I know 2 tabs to be takin off so they don't get in the way.. On my 700r4 there's nothing in the way of them 2 tabs. Are them 2 trannys that different down there???
Would you mind answering a quick question for me? I have one of these in a 93 chevy k1500 4wd with the 6.2 detroit diesel. When the trans is in drive and you come to a complete stop it feels like it shifts out of gear then when you let of the brakes and hit the accelerator nothing happens until it rolls forward a couple feet then it clunks back into gear. If you put it in second it takes off in second gear just fine reverse works fine too. The fluid is at the right level and honestly I don't know what to check next.
@@PerformaBuiltTransmissions It's a 4l60e. I've already replaced the filter and the manifold pressure switch. Some one told me that the line pressure might be low so I'm thinking about turning the screw on the epc solenoid in a quarter turn but since I don't know much about these transmissions I don't know if that is a good idea or not.
id drop your pan and see if its done for before you go turning up pressure, but typically turning it up a tiny bit doesnt hurt on a stock 60. Do it at your own risk.
Would this work on a car that's highway driven, night street cruising, and occasional drag racing? Engine is 360hp. LT1 350 in a 94 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 cop car.
yes but this build is way overkill for your application. you can veiw our builds and some specs at www.performabuilt.com. you would be fine with a level 1 tbh
Hey mate , I live in Australia 🇦🇺, I have the 4L60E in my 2003 Vy ss commodore , how can I get a hold of all the right parts as your using , to make my 4L60E handle 800rwhp ?
We dont sell parts and the performance ones we make ourselves. We no longer use sonnax parts in performance as we now have our own line. Most of the parts you can source through any major retailer i.e wit, global, sonnax, transstar, etc. But our parts are exclusive to us.
@@PerformaBuiltTransmissions thanks for the reply , no worrys at all , nice videos bro , I find myself always watching , too many parts for me to try build one 😅
@@PerformaBuiltTransmissions awesome thank you looking to LS swap my 350z and will probably order this exact setup when I get to it!! Do you sell this setup ?
PerformaBuilt Transmissions is there any other companies that offer a T brake for the 700? I’ve searched and searched and they are all I can find and then I can’t find any info about them, just their product for sale
No, transbrakes are not bolt ons. The whole transmission needs specific parts from the bottom up to work with the brake and the valvebody needs a ton of modification.
thats not true. it slow torques reverse and forward to the max torque and pressure those components will ever see. the diff is not loaded like footbraking and receives the shock.
Ive got a '95 Trans Am building an lt1 for 575 to 600 hp. Do you sell a kit that would have everything id need to build my transmission to hold up? How much to just send the unit to you and have you do it? Thank you.
well noone knows what they are doing. the internet is full of false tech and barstool horsepower talk. I do and our facebook and customers reflect that
They get a bad wrap from so many morons putting a built engine in front of a stock trans with a rather simple shift kit ‘upgrade’ and/or Corvette servo with blocked accumulator to make them shift hard rather than firm👌🏼
All my hotrods have been daily drivers with OD, starting with 700R4s back in the day with 500hp + stroker SBCs along with 250hp + N2O out of the hole with no issues…on to my current 700hp + stroker 496ci BBC with a 4L60E in an almost 4400lb full size truck that’s about to be hammered with 300hp + N20 or a ProCharger 😎 OCD builders get OCD builder results! As he said, it’s ALL in those small details🤘🏼
