I think you missed the whole point of house wrap. House wrap is not the vapor barrier. The vapor barrier is installed on the inside of the walls on the conditioned side. The house wrap acts as a moisture barrier but allows the inside of the walls to breath preventing condensation and mold in the walls. Preventing air leaks and drafts in done on the inside walls after the insulation is installed. FYI in most regions spray foam insulation does not require an additional vapor barrier.

Your thinking northern climates for inside vapor barrier, no such thing exists in the south. We use open cell foam (not closed cell for vapor and insulation) and we do not put any vapor barrier on the interior of a home (plastic sheeting ect) . Our outside house wrap is our vapor barrier, clearly says so on the material itself. A good vapor barrier like tyvek will allow water to shed, but also allows air to pass through the same membrane for the underlying surface to breathe.

Given that you are in a high wind location, and a window seal can fail, it is so smart to do those extra steps you have taken to protect the wood from leakage.

I like the way you used the Zip tape and cut the window opening in the vapor barrier. A lot of thought went into that, and I think it will be a great improvement over conventional practice. Only thing I maybe do different is not tape the Tyvek flap on the top of the window, to allow water an escape path.

Take a can of spray paint and mark your studs on the ground. It will help you find them as you work.. I like to use screws to fasten in windows. They dont work loose.

Finally a window that reminds me did you know that NASA does not allow to have Microsoft Windows in Space? Why? Because in space you can't open windows. LoL so anyhow I find it amazing how you guys install windows like we used to some 30 years ago. Now days we put it in place after all sealed up to the wood. But then we nail the outside roofing nails and once it is in position and then foam up from the inside that we leave a space of 1/4 inch each side to 1/2inch then the foam seals it in its spot. No holes to drill no air leaks and it can flex a bit.

I've also rubber butyl caulked all sheathing to the bottom plate when I did that install. We have tons of bugs here and I want a well sealed house.

House wrap should not be taped across the top. Seal the window to the wood and house wrap over the window flange but don’t tape across the top of the window. Water will have no way to go but into the wood.

Did I miss something. When you installed the Z flashing you cut through the tyvek and slipped it underneath. What is stopping air from passing under the z flashing and behind the tyvek

The tyvek is still sealed to the wood window frame via the zip tape on the inside. The conditioned inside air never makes it outside to the flashing.

Your building a SUBMARINE LOL. I found out you really don't get paid by likes and shares. Most all comes from the ads that must get watched. . Most people skip through them and I am guilty of that too. Here's the hack. Watch as normal then come back and play it again just lay the phone or tablet down and let it run through including all the ads. That way you get the ad revenue.

I do culk the window trim. Only where it meets the siding. Not against the house wrap.

James Hardi..... Or Hardi board is probably the most common fiber cement board siding available.

To each their own... I am building to my standards with money we've saved for years to build our home. One reason I'm building the way I am by myself is to get a better built home for less than commercial built.
