Pete Madsen, I watched this video on 2/19/2020. I'm going to do something very similar to what you did, I just don't have the cool Lift that you have. I've got a 1966 Mustang Coupe 289cu 2-Barrel Carb. The Mustang has 75,000 original miles. The reason for updating the engine is that I really don't want to hassle with an old carb. It's a California car built in San Jose. I live in Oklahoma where the environment is quite different than it's original home for over 50 years. The first thing I did to the Mustang was to pull the engine and send it to a engine shop and had them put new pistons, cam, (not for racing, its going to be a daily driver and parades in Mustang, OK), I've also had the heads completely gone over and fixed the exhaust valves so I can use Non-Leaded Gas...no more additives. I'm really interested in your next video showing some of your issues that you referenced on this video. When you have time please let me know some of the issues that I can possibly make my work a little easier, especially since I don't have your cool tools like your lift. Thanks... PS, What Music??? There was music on your video, I'll have to watch it again.

hate to beat a dead horse, but at least just drop the volume on the music a bit.. Overall, excellent video.. love that you recorded your work and went over your thoughts on what you were dealing with. i honestly don't see how you have such a low sub count. I'm one additional one at least. love seeing some mustang work since i have a 68 I'm working on. planning on going with Holley's 4150 super sniper so this was great.

Yeah, this was one of the first videos I learned to edit with music. I moved this car over to the 4 barrel 4150 EFI when I installed the BluePrint Engines 302 in it this last pass. The 2 barrel 2300 will be moving onto another weird project car that I have never seen EFI installed on yet. Thanks for watching!

Wow fuel tank also serves as the trunk. Later Ford designed a fuel tank to serve as the bumper.

Given the choice of external or internal fuel pump, I gotta go external. If it's loud, so be it. I'm sure there's a way to quieten it down. If not, headers and flowblasters. I'm actually more of a header/stock muffler guy.
@bigchunga753
@bigchunga753 5 лет назад
You cant use the "pink" wire for power. That's a resistance wire and it brings 12v down to 9v so the points don't fry. Its easy to find the 12v source going INTO the ignition switch. Any schematic shows it and I believe it is red and is a 12 or 14 gage wire, instead of most others that are 16 gage. You may have touched on this but the temp sensor should be installed on the intake manifold for accurate readings before the T-stat opens. Installing in the T-stat port will give false readings to the ECU until car warms up and will cause a rich condition. The holley 4 barrel EFI works better for a 289 than that 2 barrel.

@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 5 лет назад
The tank works well other than the issues of where the fuel lines run. So far I have not had issues with the pump or sender, but the pump is noisier than it should be. I'll pull the pump and check to see if it was an installation issue that's making it loud and if not, probably change it out for another brand.
@trv88r

I’m doing the same conversion but on my 65. My kit doesn’t come with the hose kit, i was wondering how much hose you used and if i need special fittings
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 3 года назад
The exact lengths of hose depend which route you take, but about 20ft was enough for my project. The fittings I used were 6an male to NPT (I think) at the Sniper unit, then 6an female to 3/8 barb fittings on the hose.

Ouch not a big fan of the fuel lines in the trunk. I would probably end up dealing with the noise and use an external pump and the original tank with a modified sending unit with a return. Still, awesome job.
@bradmcgill3380
@bradmcgill3380 3 года назад
I'm installing the same system. My fuel tank is exactly like the one shown, and I was sent another fuel pump that goes outside the tank on the send line between 2 filters. Do I daisy chain the blue wire to power both fuel pumps?
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 3 года назад
I don't know why there would need to be two pumps in series for a system like this. Series pumps are usually low pressure and high flow feeding a high pressure engine bay pump. Depending on the amp draw of the pumps, I wouldn't probably run them in series on a single relay. I would probably add a second relay to feed the second pump, triggered off the first relays output.
@bradmcgill3380
@bradmcgill3380 3 года назад
@@AmbiVe thank you. I was planning on not installing the second pump, just the filters. But like usual, I started second guessing myself. For the fuel hoses, what hardware did you use to run/mount them above the drive shaft? Thanks again.
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 3 года назад
@@bradmcgill3380 I used cushion clamps to hold them up and zip tied the lines every foot or so to keep the lines tight together and easy to route. Later I hope to make a boxed channel for them, but this has been working well so far and makes revisions easy. I also have been experimenting with a regulated fuel filter system from Holley in the trunk so that there is only the one feed line to the front of the car. It works, but I notice a little more noise when the system pressurizes the first time after sitting.

So, in order to install the temperature required sensor. Where did you install the sensor?
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 3 года назад
I installed mine in the intake manifold in an extra port I had that was before the heater bypass so that I had accurate temperatures even when cold. Depending what water neck and intake manifold you have, you should have a few options.

@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 3 года назад
I pulled it off the engine bay line to the the starter relay. Just find something that has voltage that doesn't dip during cranking. If your wiring is less butchered than mine was, you should be able to find an switched positive that doesn't drop under the dash. After improving the electrical system, I pulled the power from my PMU-16 directly.

@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 2 года назад
I don't know what color wire it would be for that year, but I pulled mine from the ignition switched power to the starter that is powered both key on and while cranking. I tapped into it about where the bundle comes past the strut tower. Later, I replaced it with a new system directly from my PMU, but this wire worked fine for several years. I hope that helps!

Good video! Did you have issues getting the fuel send assembly in the tank? Mine will not go in. Measured the depth, divided by 2,and added 1/8" for gasket. Secured the slide and installed the float arm exactly 1/8" from the top. Angled the float in, but the rest of the sender will not go in unless I bend the fuck out of the brass rod. If you got some tips let me know!
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 4 года назад
I don't remember exactly what I did, but it involved swearing and turning, flexing, and pushing the thing until I could get it into position. I might be taking it back out soon for calibration of new gauges. If I do, I will record the process.
@95TsiAwd1
@95TsiAwd1 4 года назад
@@AmbiVe haha, much appreciated. There are those little arms /'''''\ at the bottom of the float slide (rheostat). I'm about to bend the hell out of the right one that supports the float at the lowest position. Figure if anything the float will just hit the bottom of the tank and I can get it in. Left one is for the full position 🤷‍♂️

I just put mine in and it did okay. I had to cut the main bracket off shorter and then float rod is just barely long enough to touch the btm stopper, but it went in as I turned to line up with the notches in then hole
@95TsiAwd1
@95TsiAwd1 4 года назад
@@cameronh9568 That's what I actually ended up doing too. Question for you.... When you installed the CTS were you able to splice it somehow so that the stock temp sensor in the cluster still functioned like normal or did you just lose the stock temp gauge?
@hankfink

Isn't the pink wire a GM color thing for RUN in ignition?
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 5 лет назад
I believe you are correct, however, on the 67 Mustang there is also a pink wire listed in the diagram that also has power during cranking. If the voltage drops much at all, the display reboots and sometimes the whole unit. Pulling from the engine bay avoided this issue as would have adding a relay. Good comment!
@theoutlaw2395
@theoutlaw2395 5 лет назад
The pink wire under the dash is the resistor wire. That's why there's no ballast resister in the engine compartment. It feeds the positive side of the coil and drops the voltage to about 9 volts. On my 67 Mustang, I have the factory tach. My tach plugs inline with the pink wire.

Mileage is hard to say as the transmission, tires, and driving will make more of a difference than just the fuel system. With my setup of a C4, I'm usually pretty high in the revs on the highway and always stomping on it to hear the exhaust. I would guess I'm probably around 18-22 MPG with the new 302 I have in the car now when I'm nice to it.

Why go to a 2 barrel and use one of those junk adapter plates . when car had a 4 barrel on it.
@AmbiVe
@AmbiVe 4 года назад
It was mostly an experiment. That 2 barrel outflows anything that V8 could use by over 20%. A 4 barrel on an engine like that performed much worse than a 2 barrel would without any benefit. Probably the most common mistake people make on garage built project cars is oversizing a carb on an engine. This took it back closer to what it should have.
