installing the WORLDS BEST leaf spring setup for DRAG RACING

I bought the WORLDS BEST leaf spring arrangement for the 1500hp 4x4 drag truck chassis build. Hopefully, this will help the truck to get into the 1.5 second 60 foot zone, or maybe a little quicker. Our overall goals for the UglyTruck are a mid 8 second pass at around 150-160 miles per hour, so we need the absolute best suspension system we can get! I had considered going with a Tin Soldier Race Car 4-link setup out back, but after talking with a few other people who drag race these 4wd trucks, I decided that I wanted to try out the split mono-leaf and slider combo.

As a Ford Tech if I get a Mod motor with a random miss/stumble/hesitation with no MIL set, I replaced the plugs and coils right from the start. I don't know what it is with the ECU's from Ford not setting a MIL light when you can clearly feel/hear a miss fire or stumble/hesitation. But to save the customer time and money in the long run just replacing both at the same time is the go to.

I like your attitude, sometimes you just do things because you want to. I spent 5 years modifying a 96 4x4 Suburban frame, suspension and drive train. Dana 60 straight axle swap, made my own sliders, all the good stuff, Camber plates, high steer cross over, new springs, 12" lift. Relocated and fabbed new body mounts to raise body 3", looked factory. Rebuilt my 14 bolt with disc brakes. 4:56 gearing front and rear. Upgraded drive shafts, u-joints and slip joints. New 540 Bow Tie block, everything new and forged. I reworked World rectangular heads and fitted shaft mount ro;;er rockers. port match the blower manifold of course, rebuilt 6-71, the Carb Shop in Ontario built two 950 carbs for E-85. Raul Upholstry completely redid the interior. 37 Goodyear Wranglers, Pertronix ignition control with start spark retard. I filled the tank with foam to control slosh. This was my best build.

I can't believe the kit came with aluminum bushings for both ends. As the springs compresses and twists and binds it will create massive stress on the frame and brackets and ride really bad because of the bind. Hope I am wrong but, common sense says I am right. Doug Norridin at Global West Suspension in San Bernadino, Ca. makes a spherical bearing setup for leaf springs drag racing that eliminates this bind with tons of articulation, and has zero deflection.

I get misfires quite often on my 4.6 in the crown Vic. They seem to get water in them quite easily, I'm guessing it's from condensation as I have the problem more often when it's humid. 90% of the time blowing out the holes and drying the boots seems to fix it. I've also stopped using aftermarket coils.

Mine was the same, no codes/check engine light. Shot ducks at 3500rpm at 3/4-WOT. Though it had a "saved code" for low voltage to coil via the scanner the shop used. 8 plugs and coils later, no miss fire and puts you back into the seat again. 120k original plugs/coils, all 8 plugs were gapped the same, big, but the same. coils looked good enough to be "emergency set" but I didn't trust them being having 18 years worth of heat cycles.

I shake my head when people complain about lack of space with stuff piled against the walls taking up floor space annndddd - no shelves in sight. Spend a weekend installing slotted rails on every open wall. Then lots of brackets and wire shelves and get the junk off the floor and out of the way. In this tall space you will need a folding ladder to access the shelves up near the ceiling but just be sure to put the stuff up there that you rarely use. You can even have shelf space above the garage door rails.

Find a known good CCRM for that mustang and swap the old one out to test and see if it fixes the problem. Its a set of relays that power the PCM, fuel pump, cooling fan, and AC clutch. Also check the grounds around the radiator support. Alot of times those are the culprit for studders and minor misfires that dont throw a code. Granted its not a cheap part, but its one to keep in mind. Its a dumb design from the factory if you ask me lol. Most times when they act up is when its humid, damp or a combo of the 2

It’s going to be interesting to see the performance of the AWD on the strip when you get the UT done. The four-link rear may have been able to carry the whole truck out of the hole, making the weight and complexity of the AWD useless. OTOH, you had some nice 60’ performance with the orange truck, so it may be the best design. Looking forward to seeing it run!
