I started eating keto on Feb 15th of this year , so only about 14 weeks ago . I started intermittent fasting for 14 hours everyday , then 16 a few weeks later . I also started doing a 24 hour fast one day a week a few weeks ago . just did one yesterday in fact lol.I have lost 82 lbs in 14 weeks . I am 55 , have not felt this good in years .I still have around 120 to 140 lbs to lose, but now know I can do it . Keto has saved my life

Wow! That's great. I'm 68 and I just got started with keto/IF (16:8) in May. I'm going to give that 24-hour fast a try. I am sedentary and have still lost 10lbs. I know at this stage it's probably only water, but I'll take whatever I can get. The IF has caused my stomach to shrink so I don't eat nearly as much as I used to. Like you, I also have 120 lbs to lose, but comments like yours are really encouraging. Thanks for posting.

Em H I basically eliminated sugar and carbs. I’m a Coca Cola addict so I only drank no more than 3 sips with a meal. Eliminate rice/potatoes/breads/fruits/jams and jellies/cokes and you’ll be surprised at how the weight comes off. Measure your waist/weigh when you start your diet. I also started walking 10,000 steps/day. You might want to check out Dr Ken D Berry and Dr Berg’s You Tubes...Dr. Berry is my favorite. I also do IF of 16 hrs as suggested. I’ve lost over 25 pounds and 2.5” in my waist in a short amount time. You can do this. Good luck.

Wow! I'm so impressed! I've just begun and it is difficult (also a Coca Cola addict) for me still but your story is so encouraging! Thank you for sharing. I'm going to stay with it. I've just turned 60 - but today that's considered young & I hope to be able to stay that way!

Elizabeth Holmes I am 52 and just started. I am on my fourth day of eating every other day and only having one meal on the days I eat before 8 PM. Still learning but feeling great because I’ve been on keto the last year and a half which is why I I think I’m not having any negative side effects. My question is though, does the hunger ever go away on the days you are fasting?

Hi Becky I would be 52 in OCT. However, I no longer experience menstrual cycles. It stopped Apr of this year. No pain, no sickness, no spotting. My mother said the same for her. She is 78 and alive today. I have no children, but I have this pouch that I hate. I did experience a weight gain. I will attempt the 12:12 intermittent fasting. Any suggestions?

Great info. I am 50, I started IF (20/4 3-4 days a week) a few moths ago and it has really boosted my weight loss. I was previously in stall after stall and got very frustrated with everything. I also want to add, I do the Keto WOE and have hypothyroidism and no gal bladder. It has taken 2 years so far to lose a little over 80 lbs. I am still working on it and have about 30 lbs to go. IF has really boosted my weight loss and I hardly ever feel hungry.

Thank you so much for the information. I am 57 and I just started going through menopause 2 yrs. ago I am overweight and I feel so uncomfortable all the time. I had to stop working due to severe hip pain and arthritis and severe pain in my ankles. Whenever I do go to the doctors, they just basically tell me I'm overweight, and then give me muscle relaxers and ibuprofen. I never take the muscle relaxers and lately because the pain is so bad I have taken more ibuprofen in the past year than I have taken my whole life. They work occasionally. I started the fasting about a week ago today. I have been doing 16/8. So far so good, with God's grace. I am just going to keep trying, along with some exercise and I believe with all my heart I will start to feel better. My self esteem has been so bad. I have been watching your videos and they have helped me so much. They are always informative, direct and to the point, as well as encouraging. God Bless you as well as all the Intermittent Fasters out there.

If you eventually manage to transition into a Strict Keto/ONE Meal A Day regimen, I think you'll find your transformation to be even MORE amazing. DW and I sure have. We feel thirty years younger (like 17-year-olds). We just make sure that every calorie we DO consume, is prepared optimally (as close to raw as is safe), and is PACKED with nutrients. Even if weight loss were not a dividend, the MENTAL CLARITY and sheer BLISS we're getting from Intermittent Fasting, make the transition worthwhile for us. And the CONVENIENCE of eating only once, is such a bonus. DW says, "You know, this is better than hiring another personal assistant."

I started the 16/8 routine yesterday, and caved in after 15 hours because I started to get headaches, but I'll work my way up to 16. I had been wondering whether the 12/12 is successful, and you just confirmed it.

I "stumbled" onto this video. I'm 49, but almost made my 1-year mark of no period. I started IF (5:2 Diet) in March '18. ALL the mental benefits you mentioned I have experienced. I honestly thought it was coincidental or it was all in my head. I feel great and IF isn't as hard as it sounds. Thanks for this video.

Good to know. I’ve been fasting on and off for the past year. I just started fasting again but this time I’ve decide that I am going to be more committed to it because of the long term health benefits. Thank you. Started my first try at IF today. Doing 16/8 to start, non-keto. Would like to work toward 20/4 in the next two months or so. Goals are to lose about 50 pounds, decrease inflammation, decrease fibromyalgia pain, and help with loss of proprioception.

I’m 48 and I’ve doing IF 18:6 for 2 months and have lost 14 1/2 pounds. I also have a workouts of cardio and weight training. IF does work. I don’t count calories but eat real food I cook. I allow myself 1-2 times a week to eat out, but my body craves real food now.

Today will be my 5th day of fasting, and I feel great! I need to join a group of fastens so I can see what others are doing; specifically, what vitamins I should or shouldn't take. I started straight out with 18/6, but I am not doing Keto.

I hadn’t heard about keto, until I was stay-at-home during COVID-19. I was running out of fresh food, and no food delivery. I had a supply of meat in the freezer, and some canned vegetables: julienne green beans, pumpkin, and in the freezer: okra, julienne green beans, and blueberries. I was concerned as fresh vegetables and fresh fruit were used up, and that was very soon. I purchased supplements online. There was no fresh food delivery, to order online, for this zipcode. In RU-vid, I stumbled on your channel and Dr Sten Ekberg, and others. I decided the food I have on hand could be keto. I had olive oil. I like brunch or a mid-day meal emphasized and a light supper. Using what I had, I made my food intake match keto and 18:4 internittant fasting to stretch the food I had as long as I could. I chose the fatty meats in smaller amounts, and a 1-2 oz protein snack of steak I cut up if I wanted something, anything, to eat. I had some fish in the freezer, but not enough so I ordered a supplement. I kept going, and finally the grocery store arranged delivery outside our door. By then, I was on keto. ..and I felt satiety: not cravings. I had good energy. I had started to “feel my age”. ..that was gone. I felt like I did in my early 20’s. I was concerned I had lost weight so fast, I purchased more supplements and I started walking outdoors early in the morning 3x a week, to not lose muscle. I hadn’t tried to lose weight. Now that we have access to go out to grocery stores in the early hours, I was looking for “cheat meals” to slow my weight loss. This is what I search for now. What “cheat meals” can I do to slow weight loss and get right back to keto? I did not get energy from a cake donut. I felt old again. I think the frozen cubes of banana squash is along the lines of the right idea. I think no carbs with fat will need to be “the rule”. I feel it go right to the places that would “broaden my horizons”. I have decided much more quantity of zero and low carb vegetables may be the answer. What do you say?

IF is what helped kick my weight loss into gear. I was doing keto with very little results. Adding IF helped a lot and i find it pretty easy. I am still doing low carb and gluten free.

Have been IF for about two weeks now and have lost 4 lbs. I am a 57 y/o woman and have a goal of losing about 30 lbs to get a BMI of 24.5 or so. I love IF because my whole life I have never felt hungry in the morning but bought the rhetoric of how break-fast is the most important meal of the day..ya da ya da ya da ...we who grew up in the 70s and 80s have certainly been fed a load of crap about nutrition both literally and figuratively. The thing I have noticed is my body is having a little struggle with energy starting at about 3 pm going until about 6:30 pm..I have been stopping eating about 7:30 pm or 8 pm then break the fast about 1:30-2 pm in the afternoon. I hope pretty soon I don’t feel so sluggish in the afternoon...my energy is so much better in the morning even though I haven’t eaten for over 12 hours...I do have to improve the quality of the food I am eating more consistently.

Inge Rush Hi Inge what is meant by 16/8. I am same age and in the researching stage of IF and Keto. Trying to learn which way is best to start is there a difference between the two? I do not have a lot of weight to lose but would like to have a break through with my belly area, hips and thighs-:). Thanks in advance for you time in responding😃

QBI Faith IF is intermittent fasting. Keto is a ketogenic diet, very low in carbs, but rich in fats. They are kind of complementary because the reduced carbs put your body in a state where you're burning your fats and reduce hunger and cravings - making it easier to fast.

Thank you so much for your response. Coffee is so hard to give up, so I’ll be interested to see what you have to say on the link you provided. So far today, I am continuing the fast from last night and will eat at 12. I’ve had 2 cups of coffee with 1 tsp total of honey, and milk...... I’m almost 60 and the continual sludge of mid section fat that never seems to budge - hopefully this will help. And half the fasting happens when I’m sleeping, so that makes it easier, altho I was super hungry when I went to bed last night. Thanks for your excellent videos!

Good on you for trying this. Unfortunately honey breaks your fast as it stimulates insulin, so it will undo most of your hard work.

HELP?? Thanks to your guidance, I've been on IF with keto for 30 days!! Magnesium & potassium supplements can help with night sweats and pain, right? I started doing this in May to June of 2017, I lost 41 lbs and reached my goal weight. I was 54 yrs old and I’m now 55, and this works. I do intermittent fasting, I eat at 11:30am for brunch, and at 4:30pm for dinner. Wish I knew about this when I was in my 20’s.

One thing I would like to see addressed on fasting videos is the question of estrogen and fasting on women past (sometimes WAY past) menopause. One RU-vidr, Thomas deLauer, said "estrogen shoots up during fasting." I would like to see that expanded upon, and the implications of that. Also, what to do when you want to fast for health but are already of rather low weight. Thanks!

Ive done 4oz. Of meat with butter and heavy cream one to two times a day with an occasional salad every few days with one meal .I've onlt lost 13 lbs in two months

I’m 50 and have being doing IF for 5 months. I didn’t really need to lose weight, but retain muscle & drop body fat. It worked. I’m not going back to 6 meals a day. IF is much easier to fit in. I now sleep better have no menopausal symptoms, I feel great and people say I look great!

Just be careful with keto, because you cannot ever stop it if you do, you might get very sick. I have some family experience with the effect of stopping keto!

Agata Kaplon You can stop, just very gradually increase the carbs, using an app to track macros. Ease into more carbs and spread them out throughout your meals.

I appreciate your slow careful introduction to intermittent fasting!! The focus on women over 50 is great!!!! I just turned 71 but have suffered from chronic illness since birth. Am struggling now with belly fat, excess fat all over, including little fatty deposits just under my skin, skin tags (small benign tumours), and severe muscle atrophy from mental illness. My goal this year is to firmly establish the first level, 3 meal intermittent fasting technique. And to eliminate cane sugar completely. Thanks for your work Dr. Becky!

I started yesterday on the 16/8, but didn't quite make it to 16. Hoping to build it up over the next couple of days, until my body gets used to the new eating schedule. I do dinner at 4 pm and plan breakfast at 8 am. Up til now I did breakfast between 5 and 6 am or even earlier.

I must say that IF has done me a world of good! I took to it like a duck to water and have lost about 20lb since June. Slow but steady. Before IF + low carb + no sugar, I would just lose and gain the same few lbs over and over. Ive always been a "walker." I'll be 60 yrs in a few days! I will never go back to eating my old way (which I thought was healthy)

I'm 56 and you sound like me, been doing IF, l have no more then 10 grams of carbs a day, I will lose a couple of Lbs then gain the same lbs back for 7 weeks now.

I feel better intermittently fasting. My arthritis pain has diminished greatly bless God. With Keto I have lost 21lbs since May 29th this year. Recovering from knee surgery is interfering with my desire to exercise at this time . Additionally , the decrease inflammation I have since combing IF and Keto is phenomenal 😁 I am a happy soul 😁😁😁😁😁💕👍🏾

I do OMAD, so I guess you can call that intermittent fasting ! All my bloating is gone and my pants are significantly looser, and I feel better. The scale is my kryptonite so I am going by how I look and feel through this as my goal is just to get healthier and feel better about myself. When you bend over to put on your shoes, have trouble doing it and you get short of breath, it's not a good thing. I am very hopeful with this, and it's easy for me because I was a breakfast skipper anyway. Now I skip lunch too so it's not a big jump. Good luck to everyone !

For your osteoporosis start taking high doses of vitD3 combined with vit K2 (compulsory synergy to benefit your bones!). Also..weight bearing exercises under supervision. Get familiar with vitK2 benefits! You tube has tons of info

So on my keto mojo I have learned that my hot tea n the morning with 1 tablespoon of cream spikes my insulin. I only have tea 3 cups in the morning and usually eat at noon.......but no weight loss. I think now I know why. Blood sugar 77 prior to my tea 87 30 minutes after. Boo Switching to hot Green tea with no cream starting tomorrow and 18 hour fast. Hopefully I'll see some change in the next 30 days

I've found that it was impossible to fast when I was still eating sugar and other refined carbs. When I removed these the cravings stopped and fasting became a breeze. Might that be what is making fasting so hard for you too?

I am 58 years. I do a fair amount of fasting - the only problem is I get bile problem the next morning if my stomach is empty for a long duration ie especially if I don’t eat anything after 7 pm as recommended. I had my gall bladder removed about 3 years back and was advised by the doctors then that I would need to eat small bites frequently and not be on empty stomach for a long time. But I do want to lose weight as I weigh 72 kgs. Request you to kindly advise.

I'm 65 years old I just started doing this as well intermittent fasting and the ketogenic way at first my stomach would get upset. So I've been under stress for a couple years now off and on and had many medical problems since I have been doing this I have been doing better I have lost 7 lb gained a couple back and now I've lost it again I'm treating training my body to see that it can't have it's wat and eat all the time from stress! I'm a week into a ketogenic carnivore OMAD just for fun & after an indulgent Xmas. Lost 2 kilos, so much puffiness & feeling energised & focused! I would imagine it would be a bit of a rough ride coming from a standard diet to OMAD. It has been a super easy transition from a fatty carnivore diet. I don't think I'd manage any kind of IF if I ate any carbs.

This video was extremely helpful. When I share my intermittent fasting experiment with friends and acquaintances, they often look at me like I'm insane and question the health benefits. I have been following a fasting window of approximately 14 hours for the last two weeks with great results. Coupled with sensible food choices and exercise....of course. With that said, I would love to see a video that discusses how to avoid the post-fast crash. I feel great during my fast and feel energized during my fasted workout. But I'm curious on how to introduce foods throughout the day to avoid fatigue. Especially for the first few hours post fast. Thanks in advance :-)

I’m a 62 year old cyclist. Post menopause for a decade. I wanted to lose a pesky 9 lbs that I acquired since I had to stop running in 2012. IF has helped me lost 6 lbs over the course of 6 weeks. I’ve been keeping to about 1600 calories during breakfast and lunch and then fasting till the next breakfast. Doing the 16:8. I notice a significant decrease in muscle and joint soreness in the mornings and increased aerobic capacity during my workouts. All in all nothing bad to report except hunger pangs here and there

I lost 25 pounds in 2 months IF by not eating my high carb breakfast and waiting until lunch. I lost belly fat and thought I'd be sadly overweight over 55 because of menopause. I learned how my body uses sugar and carbs and although not doing Keto, it helped me a great deal. The 500 cal twice a week didn't

Dr Becky I would love to see a video about Hoshimotos and Intermittent Fasting and if it helps. My 28 year old daughter was diagnosed with Hoshimotos a year ago and she has also been diagnosed with celiacs, of course the mama thing in me immediately stated reading and researching and it seems the two diagnosis go hand in hand more often than not. When she was a baby and a young child she would always be anemic at her well checks and when she was about 5 years started having migraines and as she got older they got progressively worse. Now that she has cut back on gluten her migraines are 80 percent less often. I have two other daughters one 26 and one 31 both type one diabetics, the 26 year old being diagnosed at 5 years old. ( my kids got hit hard with autoimmune, while my husband and I have none of that) So I am NOT new to the low carb high fat world but just started the Intermittent Fasting trials
