All of us have come across the traditional fasting, where you fast all day. So, you eat the previous day, fast the whole day, and then eat the following day. This process is so strongly prevalent in some cultures with the religious beliefs. This is beneficial, but hard for some bodies to follow through due to energy levels and work schedules.
And Unlike traditional fasting where you go with out eating all day long, IF is following a long fasting window combined with a short eating window with in 24 hours. Its like fasting for 16 hrs and eating in the 8 hrs window
Let’s understand what fasting does to our bodies… .and then determine what is good for you.
Numerous studies show that it can have powerful benefits for your body and brain. Lets go over some of the benefits :
1. Insulin resistance
2. Oxidative stress
3. Autophagy
4. inflammation
5. Growth hormones
Fasting Vs. Intermittent fasting?
If you can handle it, I would recommend doing a 1-2 days of fasting per week mainly due the benefits of Autophagy which is the removal of cellular waste since this process kicks in only after 18 hours of fasting.
If your body cannot handle it, Start with 16 to 8 hrs of Intermittent fasting 2 times a week and get comfortable with it. And when you feel the benefits of it, you can work your way up to your capability by extending the fasting window.
Happy Intermittent Fasting you guys !!
