@@KarennotarealKaren I've worked in several firms over my career, I was the IT manager in one fairly large firm (we had the top two floors of the tallest building downtown, my office had a balcony!) and I've been seriously looking into getting my CP or APC purely for the love of the game. Here's the catch: like you said, it's not the most lucrative job, and what's more, I'm almost 50. In your professional opinion, do you think I may have taken leave of my senses? If so, do you think it would be worth it to go ahead and do the coursework and get my cert even if I just stuck to the tech side of things where the better $$$ is?

Dewarren , glad you made it thru with a cheerful spirit in tact ! They say what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger- one thing I would tell you to remember about the money would be - don’t let it change you ! Also remember 1mil in a money market account / CD drawing 5% interest will yield 50k a year . At 7% interest the money will roughly double in 10 years as it compounds. Lastly id say you should move to the south! South Carolina is beautiful and cheap to live ! You can buy a nice house on 10 acres for 500k , and it don’t ever get below 20 degrees down here !

The hardest thing about being in the hospital for an extended period of time, besides the pain, is losing your autonomy. The loss feels worse the more you improve. Kudos on hanging in there, and I hope you continue to live a good long life. Bruce had a great team fighting for you, and you really got a great result.
@BOnYTB
@BOnYTB 7 месяцев назад
Yep. That (and I really don’t want to come off any type of way…bc I am not that person, I’m sure it’s horrific for anyone regardless, I’m just speaking from my experience) is a huge thing. You take for granted being able to just do simple things in life. So especially if you can’t/aren’t supposed to move much for an extended period of time, it’s crazy how much you lose. You’re completely dependent on other people 100%. I was in the hospital for months (moved hospitals once, had to get rushed to one for surgery, then spent months in an inpatient PT, I had 50+ surgeries) and the reason I wrote that disclaimer above is bc I was going to talk about just kind of losing any sense of “dignity” as a man. Again it’s horrific regardless, I am sure you have similar feelings as a woman or w/e, but growing up you kind of just think differently obviously. I’m not going to have anymore disclaimers, you either think I’m a terrible person for talking about the experiences from a male POV or you don’t, can’t convince someone otherwise. But especially with nurses being idk, not gonna look it up, but in my personal experience, almost all women, it just feels so odd. I was like 23yo, maybe 24, and I’d gotten out of my most serious relationship maybe 6-8mo before my accident. I was with her for almost 4y, lived in Canada with her (overstayed my visa lol, got a 1y ban but it’s all good now) and near the end we were considering marriage to fix my visa situation and in general we were close to me wanting to propose regardless. So I went from that 6mo prior, then back to home in the northern US, and I was used to waking up next to a SO every day for a while. Being intimate with a girl/woman for quite a while. Then I literally cannot move, I had a halo on, (had C1-C3 fusion) and a bunch of other casts/braces etc. So I had to be washed up by a nurse, everything was done by a nurse. And you just have to get used to it, understand it’s your new normal, and adapt. I had 99% great nurses, I was very friendly w a handful of them and they were fantastic. It’s so rare you get a bad one, but I will say you can tell p quickly if that person is there bc they are passionate about their job, or if it’s just for $ and it’s whatever. But I had a couple nurses in the second hospital that’d stop in when they weren’t super busy and just chat for like 5 minutes, that really meant the world. Just chatting about their day or what was going on in their life, it was a little normalcy and it helped a lot. Anyway, I agree and people (how could they really) don’t really think of that wrt being in the hospital. It’s the injuries, the pain, the bad food, etc. But the loss of any autonomy is rough, especially if it’s to the level I was at where I legitimately couldn’t move. Crazy stuff. If anyone cares, I can walk now with a walker. I can walk some without it, but not much. My ankles are fused and one leg is longer than the other so it’s VERY hard to walk without shoes on, basically impossible lol. I’ll always have pain and stuff, but I easily could’ve died (was helicoptered to the ER and emergency surgeries immediately) and prolly should’ve, let alone not being wheelchair bound or paralyzed. So it could be much much worse! Always love this channel, great content, Bruce is awesome. This video was fun, pretty sure they had a couple drinks…Bruce maybe more than a cpl 😂. Celebrating a big win tho pretty sweet.

@@BOnYTByou're not horrible for talking about your perspective as a man having to be in a vulnerable position dealing with an industry that's run by mostly women. I can only imagine how that must've felt. I'm in and out of the hospital every few months for about two weeks at a time and I almost always lose the ability to care for myself when i go in. When I have a male nurse or tech, I'm always absolutely mortified and will usually insist on waiting for a female to become available to help me. I can't even imagine what it must be like not having that option because there aren't any male nurses around for you to wait for. Also, I agree with the commenter who said you should start a blog about your experience. So many people would be able to relate and take something from your experiences. It's kinda rare to find people in day to day life who have experienced regular or long hospital stays. It's not something most people can relate to. But online people are able to find others who share similar experiences and that can be helpful for people who are new to the experience. So if you have the time, you should consider it. You write well so it would be an enjoyable read, and it might be therapeutic for you. Just a thought 😊
@hollieshelesky668
@hollieshelesky668 7 месяцев назад
@@BOnYTB just wanted to say I think the fact that you made it and are here to talk about the male point of view in this area is amazing. Even if people don’t want to admit it men and woman are different. We think differently and feel differently from each other. That’s ok. We balance each other out lol. Have you ever thought of using your experience to help others? Like go into hospital and sit with people, or even help make hospital stays better by addressing hospital boards or the government? I think you should consider it ❤️ Iv never been through something like you have. I almost died and had to in the hospital for about a week and I freaked out. Couldn’t imagine the mental part of what you went through. You are stronger than most people. You should be proud of that strength ❤️ sending you all my love.
@CindyLouWho77
@CindyLouWho77 7 месяцев назад
Hey, this is YOUR experience, your reality, your life. You don’t owe anyone an explanation or apology. I understand why you tried, as delicately as possible, to explain why that huge loss of autonomy is different for men (I’m a woman and similar to the commenter above me, I have extended hospitalizations due to an illness. Nothing like what has happened to you, but I understand to a degree. I also understand that there are things I can’t understand). Some people might take offense. That’s their problem. Very few things in life are black and white, and that’s a lesson everyone needs to learn. That’s how you feel and screw anyone who is privileged to never have your injuries, pain, and treatments, yet tries to shame you. What happened to your life, your body, is catastrophic. Having your autonomy ripped away can crush the soul, but you managed to preserve. You’re still adapting to your new reality. You are very brave to share your vulnerabilities. I hope you continue to heal physically and emotionally. Allow yourself some grace and well-earned pride. You are incredible and such an inspiration. Take care of yourself.

I got it worse from a bad landlord (no more face or fingers) the 4 firms we contacted looked into it and sent letters saying "sorry". I needed to focus on getting better and walking after 2 years in burn unit so I said "screw the money". I got a $6.5 million bill as a parting gift to go out to the wild. No more savings, no more 401K, that was 12 years ago, I work now to pay bills, disability cut off. As someone who's burned head to toe (house fire) including my face, not much of a nose left.. 12 years ago, almost same time, this is a hard Bruce video to watch, and I watch everything he uploads. My landlord fled the country while I was still in a coma, he had no fire alarms (I lived there a month while going through a divorce, needed a place quick.. ). I didn't get a dime, I have skin graphs on 70% of my body, father died of a heart attack when he saw me asleep in an air bead bed hooked to tubes, I had just gotten my pHD in physics and we were science buddies.. I too am a Guinea Pig for Integra skin, don't like it. Anyway while money would have helped, hearing him say he'd rather have skin back made me tear up over something I don't talk about. If you live half your life normal and told your good looking then turn into something folks whisper about how sad it is when you walk past, no opulent Mediterranean Vacation or Ferrari or big house matters, does it. Having no fingers to play guitar anymore hits worse than no face... Anyway, I couldn't not comment, Im glad this guy had a great team and made new friends.

My daughter is a gifted musician (full ride and school sent me money). Insurance company made an offer. Our lawyer pointed out how her injuries would impact not just the piano but even breathing going for the high notes. Reply back was “ya, every 16 year old thinks they will be a guitarist”. We had her audition CD she had just finished. Wrote, arranged, played and sang 8 pieces. Got sent off to the insurance company. Initial offer got multiplied by four….along with her full scholarship. Still has residuals but satisfying to see them fold so fast. I think they would have gone higher but PTSD took over. But I appreciated that attorney.

8:15 $750,000 for 7 weeks in the hospital and years of recovery? That is so insulting. Glad you walked out of there. When my Grandmother retired from nursing after 45 yrs of service (ER Nurse, Burn Unit RN, and finally Night Hospital Supervisor) I finally asked her, "Grams, what was the worst medical case you ever witnessed and cared for?" and she immediately crinkled up her nose as she bagan to tell a story of a young girl who had gotten burned so badly over 80% of her body 😢😢 My grandma was 12 yrs into her nursing career at the time. After she told me some horrific details and how they tried their best to keep her comfortable (sedated/then induced coma) she said, "I can still smell it as I'm talking about it; there is nothing worse than a severe burn victim, nothing" The young girl ended up dying 😢 after 3 weeks of fighting. My grandma told me, "No one else knows this and no one needs to however every Memorial Day I bring flowers to her grave, I cry, I pray and remember her as I held her hand when she passed away." 💔😢 The burn victim impacted my dear grandma so much that she brought flowers for decades; until she passed away in 2008. I like to think when my Grandma passed she was met by her beloved mother and husband yet also this young burn victim that she cared for. 😢💔 If you read this far, thank you. I'm so thankful that your client got justice and monetary compensation. Sounds like he went through hell on Earth to get to where he is today. Thank you to everyone who worked on this case including the jurors. Excellent outcome Bruce ❤

Wow that's crazy, i cannot imagine the trauma that your grandma has to go through after the fact. God bless your grandma and the little girl. I also agree that 750K was so insulting! That is only his own medical bill amount. They should know they should pay for the trauma that he has gone through! But good that Bruce has pointed out, you should always multiply the medical bill by 100 to ask for compensation. That's why he said it should be 75mill compensation, but he felt that 30mill to 50 mill is good. Glad that the he get 35mill. Good info for future reference.

I remember shadowing a physical therapist when I was in college. One of her patients was a young boy about 9 years old. It was heartbreaking seeing him suffer while they were cleaning his wounds - 3rd degree burns over 80% of his body.😢 I am very impressed, young man. You have handled this well.

My mom had to retire after she was hit hard by covid but she was a physical therapist. I remember going to her work and I saw some stuff that I never expected. She and her coworkers were just amazing it was so much more than the physical portion. They had patients come in with wounds covered in maggots they'd have to clean, patients who were violent and just disrespectful. I learned to respect PTs after all that because people think it's such an easy job and they are so far from right. She had passion and never gave up. I remember, and still she says, never say I can't. You can say I'll try and not be able to but you never say I can't. It makes me sad that today most physical therapists, respiratory therapists and occupational therapists are just lazy incompetent people. My dad has a piece of his spine removed and nothing was put in place. His doctors told him he'd never walk again....but my mom had him walking within 3 months. Sorry for the long response it hit a nerve. Stay blessed and safe!

$750,000 was a slap in the face. Just the medical bills and all of the years of future medical bills would be so much more than that. Never mind how he could possibly work again, and forever have a lower quality of life. Add the insane amount of pain and suffering…$750,000? F*ck them. That’s the “secret” job of every insurance company though. They claim that protecting people is the priority. No. Getting out of, or paying the lowest possible amount of money to the injured party is their actual job. That’s just the way it is though…good lawyers are essential and it’s so sad when an injured person is stupid and takes the first offer because they don’t know any better.

As a registered nurse (BSN) for 25 years and someone who suffered a bad burn (not nearly as bad as this mans), burns are horrific. I literally would not wish it on my worst enemy. I was 18 years old and was working at a restaurant that also did catering jobs. I was standing at the meat/cheese slicer slicing something and my manager was walking behind me carrying a HUGE POT of BOILING butter (they made it extra hot because they were taking it to the catering venue and didn't want it getting cold). The plan for this butter was to pour it over the green beans. Anyway, there was water on the floor and my manager slipped while carrying the butter. Instinctively, not maliciously, he threw the huge pot of boiling butter out away from him as to not spill it on himself. Unfortunately I was standing directly in front of him. It went all down the back of my left leg. Luckily I had my right leg propped up on a bucket so none of it got on my right leg. The owner of the restaurant immediately scooped me up and sat me in a very large basin sink and started running cold water on my leg. My pants were practically melted off. All of my skin from my knee down to my foot was hanging like stretched out pantyhose around my ankle/foot. Even part of my foot was burned because the butter ran down into my shoe. I had first, second and third degree burns from my knee down. The pain was absolutely BLINDING! I was immediately shaking uncontrollably as I was in shock. Was transported to the hospital and treated. That was my first time getting Demerol. That helped initially but didn't last long. I was enrolled in college at the time (nursing school) and every morning I would have to go to my family doctor for the burns to be scrubbed and a new dressing change. Literally feels like torture. I couldn't have pain meds because I was driving to my college classes immediately afterwards. I'm now 48 years old and I can remember it like it was yesterday. So much pain and for so long. When new skin/skin grafts are growing it actually shrinks so my leg healed like I was wearing an invisible stiletto high heel. 👠 I had to endure months of physical therapy to restretch my skin, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves so that my heel could actually touch the floor. Absolutely excruciating and a really long journey to recovery. I can't even begin to imagine this man's pain.

I enjoyed hearing multiple people chime in on this: client, lawyers, and paralegal. I'd have happily watched an hour of this. It does seem like Dewarren was holding back how badly he was really affected, but I suppose he had to focus on and recount the worst parts for long enough-first living them, then testifying to them in the trial. And recounting the pain and such can lead to lots of pity and/or "I could never handle that like you did" and so on, which can get irritating. Seems like he's in a good place now. I'm glad for him. ^_^ Also, wow. He's a twin, and a juror had twins his age? Good jury indeed.

0:40 damn Bruce I wish I had you as an attorney or at least could have got a referral for an attorney from you when I was 2 weeks before my 19th birthday and got hit by a car that was being drove driven by a judge on her way to court of all people! I actually spent two weeks in the hospital getting out on my birthday and I had a multiple compound tib fib tibia fibia fracture the bones came through my leg the car ran over my ankle foot and I had eight surgeries in 13 days! Unfortunately I got some horrible lawyer who is a good lawyer I guess by name but he just wasn't a good lawyer because he didn't give a damn about his clients . Which honest to God was just another reason why I'm so hell-bent on being the best attorney I can be once I finish Law School I found it very admirable that you became an attorney for similar reasons. Hearing both the story of why you became an attorney because your father's unfortunate situation and getting screwed over by attorneys but now hearing this just makes me respect and I'm more inspired by you then before good luck to both you and your client

I don’t disagree, because I love watching videos/podcasts like this. But man, if they are going to try and do this on a regular basis they need to get more cameras. The amount of times the single camera focused on a mic rather than the person talking was incredibly distracting. That’s definitely something they need to address. I get this is a new format compared to his other videos and they are probably just feeling things out, but that’s a major issue.

Bless you man. I can relate as my brother was driving an 18 wheeler with hot asphalt. He was draining his tank and the connection valve was defective and busted, spraying my brother with 460 degree hot tar. Since the asphalt stuck to him, it continued to cook him as it cooled. He suffered 3rd degree burns over 60% of his body. He was air lifted to Grady hospitals burn unit here in Atlanta Georgia for treatment and remained there for right at 4 months. He went through multiple skin graphs, debreament, hot tub soaks to remove staples. He said where the skin graphs were harvested, he said that was the most painful. They literally shave very thin strips of skin from an area non affected and they used his thighs. Those were the worst days. But, that was also the beginning of his health decline. 20 years to the day, my brother passed away, he no longer suffers. Sir, you look fantastic for a burn patient. I wish you a lifetime of pain free days and congrats to you all for your win. I will say, burn patients are scarred for life. You skin will thicken with scar tissue and it’s a lifetime of constant medical care. Take care of yourself and again, congratulations!!!

@@simpinainteasyRHEC my mother and I made sure one of us stayed with him 24/7. While he received state of the art care, Grady had never had a hot tar burn like his. It’s not like they could just give him a bath and wash it off. I swear you could smell the tar as soon as you walked in the burn unit doors. They brought 5 gallon buckets of Vaseline in his room and everywhere there was tar, we slathered him down with Vaseline. It slowly melted off him but took 5-6 weeks before he was free of tar. Not to mention a few trips to the operating room to debris areas. It truly was an emotional roller coaster. The other side of being in a burn unit for months as a family member was seeing cases come and go. I saw some really messed up things (a few times). Two other cases will forever stay with me. One night they had a total lock down of the burn unit. They had flew this guy in that was into drug dealing and the bigger drug dealer had someone throw gas on this man and then shot him. He didn’t die. Evidently he had a hit on him and they were worried the dealers were going to show up at the hospital to finish him off. So they had Georgia state patrol lining the halls, his room, even the entrance to the hospital. The man ended up passing away a few days later from his injuries. The day my brother was discharged was definitely a day for celebration. He just never fully recovered from all the other issues his burns caused. I agree, his injury absolutely caused a certain amount of PTSD for my family as well as myself. 😞

Quick comment to Bruces son on the production side. You might wanna increase the shutter speed and close the aperture a little more. The inconsistent focusing and Vaseline smeer look when you pan the camera is very distracting. The bottles on the table and the mics were obscuring their faces a little too much also. It does add a nice bokah foreground effect but its not worth if its gonna distract from the viewer focusing on the conversation. Having more static shot cameras set up for each person would be best of course but its not always an option im aware lol, anyways love yalls channel
