Lestat was still quite the European Aristocrat... fluffing and arranging his lace cuffs even when they were filthy....Cruise gave an overall impeccable performance...!!!
+Phil Bolton i agree. it would've been very awesome if Cruise & Aaliyah. Appear in "Queen of the Damned". We just imagined what it'll be like back then. The screen writers would have a fit & a blast writing it.
@soarrefly how did lestat recover soo fast? When he talked to louis, lestat looked horrible. If biting daniel did it,why didn't lestat bite somebody sooner?
Like sombedy said before, Tom Cruise's best role. His performance was flawless and maybe I could exagerate but he deserved at least to be nominated for the Oscars.
This movie is a masterpiece, and I found Lestat absolutely hilarious, like when he said to Claudia that she's spoiled cause she's an only child. I actually think that Lestat hated being a vampire way more than Louis and Claudia, that's why he was acting out. He was angry because he never understood what really happened to him as he was given no choice. That's why he always offers people to choose if they want to be a vampire. In his strange way he does care, like he cared for Claudia, you could tell he was getting attached to her.
In the book series, we actually end up understanding a lot about Lestat as well. In the 2nd novel The Vampire Lestat we see he's actually a lot like Louis, seeking answers and understanding. It's definitely something he grew out of as time passed and maybe that's why he hates Louis's whining and questions. He's been there done that and knows no answer will really soothe the things troubling him.
In the book Louis didn't attack the interviewer (who didn't have a name in the book either), he bit him to prove his point about vampires being "evil." When the interviewer woke up he took his bag with the tapes, got into his car, and drove away. The End. Yeah, this is a MUCH better ending lol
Specifically, though, he drove away after re listening to the description of the house where Lestat was, and we are left with the feeling that if Louis wouldn't turn him, he'd get Lestat to.
@@johnnybravo8129 ? The reporter goes through a back and forth chase around the world with Armand(Antonio Banderas) for a while then finally Armand relents and gives him what he wants. It's a really nice side story in the lead up the confrontation with the Queen of the Damned. He becomes pretty powerful since its the only fledgling Armand ever made(If you don't make another for centuries the one you finally make can be very strong). This isn't the end of the first book but Daniel's story(the reporter).
The book made Louis seem more evil as he attacks Danielle and leaves him to die not even caring if he lived or died because he was disgusted with Danielle for not learning from his story that being a vampire is a curse. I agree that I like this ending as it gives Lestat a brief moment to speak up for himself, "Louis still whining,"
This is one of the most satisfying movie endings I’ve ever seen no sequel needed it’s just perfect I mean Christian asked for it!! And here we go again the saga continues
This movie made me appreciate Tom Cruise as a more versatile actor than he is given credit for. He is amazing. He can really act. We just normally see him in action movies but he really can act in dramatic roles and he deserves more credit than he is given.
People avoid him as a pest for his scientology wackiness... but he's an OUTSTANDING actor. I dont buy his scientology nonsense, I don't have to deal with his wackiness, I just enjoy his acting work, and that's why he's still one of my favorites.
Nobody is denying he’s a great actor. He’s one of the best in Hollywood but I think the problem is him as a person. His religious views make him unlikable. Most humans hate cults because it’s dangerous teachings that hurts people. That’s why people don’t like him. It’s not his acting it’s because he’s a Scientologist.
I think he still had a hint of an irish accent at the time, you can hear it in some of the scenes but that never bothered me. Besides he's supposed to be french anyway and not british.
vanyadolly Tom Cruise has never had an Irish accent, even when he was supposed to and I can’t stress this enough, Irish people are most certainly not British, that’s a really ignorant comment
@@lambie1985 Unfortunately to some The Irish are considered British but not all that are British are Irish just like not all British are English but all English are British. The English, Scottish, northern Irish & Welsh make up the British despite whether it's wrong or not I know it's frustrating trying to explain we're not all the same but it's only the lack of knowledge and refusal of understanding that we are entirely separate ethnic groups is what brings in ignorance...it's surprising how little is known. I personally get peeved being called British or being told I have a cool British accent lol what is that? 😂
Roles where he plays the bad guy confirm so much why he's been successful as the good guy for so long. He's too good. Tropic Thunder and Collateral are perfect examples.
Hmm “Born on the 4th of July” was his most dramatic performance. And his most difficult role. But this character Lestat played by him, has a very seductive and fascinating aura. He has created an iconic vampire, much more intense than the entire Twilight cast.
My guess is Lestat had been following Louis and was waiting for a potential new apprentice... And since Daniel seemed willing enough... even after hearing all that horror... Makes sense...
He's a devil and wanted to make other lives miserable. He always seemed to prey on the weak, Louis wanted a death with and this dude wanted to become like them.
American GanGster Lock Have you actually read the books? He never harms the people he cares about on purpose. Lestat never wants to be alone, and the people he preys on are actually evil people (most of the time). He chose Louis because he fell in love with him and believed that being a vampire would release him from pain(it's very unusual for a vampire to stay the same after they are "born". Louis was an exception, a vampire with a human soul.)
Hassan Saleem Not quite. At least not in the books. Hell, Lestat becomes a rockstar and publishes his biography because he hates the secrecy. And he never wanted to harm Louis, EVER. Louis was (and is) his one true love. In fact, one of the reasons Claudia attempted on Lestat's life instead of Louis is because she knew she needed one of them to survive and Lestat would never forgive her for killing Louis. Also, the ending for the books is different. The guy publishes the story, but as a fiction. And he goes to find Lestat, but never does.
@@VJ-ss7il oh hell no! GnR’s version is light years better! Rolling Stones’ version is choppy and messy, while GnR’s is done correctly with a nice flow.
How?? He's going to make someone else love through hell on earth. Hollywood has done a great job in turning it's audience into mindless sheep's. The longest living vampire even wanted to die, this isn't some dream land, this is your typical devil offering the world but with a "catch" to it.
@@americangangsterlock1550 The man wanted to become a vampire, an Lestat gave him the chance. Besides, it's fun to be a vampire, Louis is just a wining drama queen, don't listen to him lol
I'd hope you'd heard River was going to be the interviewer. He's even mentioned at the end of the credits (should've been at the end of the movie though)
Anne Rice had Qualm about Cruise playing Lestât "too short," etc. I love Cruise. She was Vocal about it, TOO. After the Premiere she called him, apogized and Congraglted him. Classy. LOVE Pitt-- Cruise just outclassed him in this one in my opinion. Lo for the Vid, Favorite Scene 👏👏👏
I remember the first time I saw this movie, in 7th grade. I was sitting in my best friend's basement at night in front of a glowing TV, and she stuck this movie in the VCR player, insisting I watch it. We sat there in the dark through the whole thing, and the film blew me away. Laughed our heads off at the ending, and quoted the movie for months! One of the best moments of my junior high years.
OH MY GOD. I just finished watching the film for the first time ever and I thought the ending was fantastic. :) Gotta love Tom Cruise. He absolutely kills this role!
@Emblemz This is an epic scene. Tom Cruise was the best in this movie, a perfect performance. He IS Lestat, no one will ever top his Lestat. And this final scene... well, it's pure genius...
Rice probably refuses to sell the rights. she's one of the very few writers who are anal enough not to allow fan fic of their writing on fanfiction .net
@@GotoMaki4Micah They had the right to all the first 3 books... don't blame her, Paramount is at fault for the shody "Queen of the damned" movie that came after. They were about to lose the rights after sitting on it for so long so they shit out that movie...
@@FastSlow-gd4yr It’s been a hundred years since I’ve read it but it was something simple like the author just walks away, i.e., doesn’t have the car scene.
@@FastSlow-gd4yr if you read the follow-up book, The Vampire Lestat, a lot of things - why Antonio Banderas just let Brad Pitt kill everyone; why the vampires hated (from the beginning) Pitt so much, etc. - will make since. Don’t watch the movie, Queen of the Damned. Queen of the Damned is the follow-up to the book, The Vampire Lestat. They tried to jam two books into one movie. They failed.
@@FastSlow-gd4yr In the book, Daniel says he wants to be a Vampire because of the great power he sees it as. Louis is angry because he told his story to make it clear how he thinks its endless torture so he attacks the guy, knocks him out and leaves. Daniel then wakes up the next day, gets his things and decides to find Lestat.
“Have you heard enough? I’ve been listening to that for _centuries.”_ Translation: this bastards been depressed since before the revolutionary war and I’m sick of hearing it.
Just watched it for the first time and my god what a great movie and I have to agree one of Tom cruises greatest acts, I especially love the ending how it’s tied to the beginning Cruz praying on a weak person and offering them a choice.
Tom Cruise as Lestat....what can I say...the best! After all these years I must say that! Manny years have gone but after seeing this film once again, after 25 years I must say what I thought back then, and I am not wrong...Tom Cruise naild it! His best role ever.
I could watch this ending scene over and over again. I'm no fan of Tom Cruise. But I loved him as Lestat. Best choice of actor ever. I've read Brad Pitt envied his role...
i guess when Tom Cruise is there they just can't show his character weak in the end they ought to make him having winning stroke and i absolutely loved this ending far better than the book i wanted a lestat-louis scene at end though with Lestat freaking Louis with this "louis Louis"
something the director really captured is how beautiful and innocent the vampires look yet when they bite and in other scenes they look truly demonic and horrifying.
The original interviewer for the film was supposed to be River Phoenix before he died. The role went to this actor instead who did a great job. I feel as though River would'v done well also.
The most classic vampire movie of all time. I thought I was the only one that appreciated the movie, but platform like this confirms that people like me do exist. Thank you RU-vid.
You can't see this scene in the same way when you find out that the original actor for the interviewer was River Phoenix, imagine that, a movie with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and River Phoenix.
I have rewatched this movie again and it's such an amazing piece of art! Tom Cruise owned the role (and the entire movie IMO) and his delivery was absolutely perfect, not to even mention this great ending! I think I'll make a tradition of rewatching this movie at least once a year 😉
truly everything Tom Cruise touches turns to gold. i'm not a fan of the vampire genre but i just watched this movie and fell in love with it as well as Tom's Lestat. and this ending scene was brilliant lmao
@@delboy-su3wf other shit happened to him too I think in the books for whatever reason he had an argument with Armand in his already weakened state and Armand knocked him off a building and he broke a bunch of bones I think.
