iPhone 8 on iOS 16 How Does it Run? In this video, we will discuss how the oldest iPhone to get iOS 16 runs! Share your thoughts, questions, concerns, and if you have an iPhone you want to see how it runs on iOS 16, share it below and enjoy the video :)
Very useful insight Nick! First things first, its a very early beta, so we have to expect various issues, especially on older devices. From what i see in your video the version is very solid even at this stage. The heat issue could be very serious if they don't fix it on final release. I have an iPhone 8 from 2017, it was actually my main device until last year when i upgrade to an iPhone 12 and now i use it as a GPS in my car. The only time when i had an overheat issue with 8 was on iOS 13, the very first final version without the bug fixes (if you remember it was full of them), but the 13.0.1 fixed that entirely. Thanks again for the video and i hope for another with iOS 16 beta on a newer iPhone!
My second phone is a 8+ and i downloaded the beta and the battery drains fast, lag and heating more than normally on instagram and snapchat other than that it runs fine
It was a real shock they dropped the 7/7 Plus for iOS 16! I’ll still keep hold of my 8 Plus for another year as I can’t use OLED screens. I guess an SE 3 or 11 coming up!
@@JohanT09 PWM, pulse with modulation. It’s how OLED displays control brightness, they flicker the display super fast. 1 in 10 people are affected negatively by this & it causes their eyes to hurt, or they’ll get headaches or other bad side effects
I remember when the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 and iPhone X came out. I remember wanting the X so bad when i was in middle school. Now i’m out of high school and i have the 13 pro max.
Yeah just 2 1/2 years ago I bought the new iPhone 8 in gold but it’s more like a rose gold and I wish it wasn’t. I didn’t want a black one and the red was sold out and that was a few months before the SE two came out, I would’ve held out for the SE2 but all the reviewers were saying the iPhone 8 is going to be the last one with the home button until it got closer to the release date and then they knew there was going to be another one
I have an iPhone 8 Plus and with iOS 15.5 I notice no difference in performance compared to almost three years ago when I bought the phone. There are no significant delays and the phone does not get hot. The battery (the second one) is now at 95% capacity. The question is whether I should update to iOS 16 or not. I mean ... I do not need new fancy wallpapers or the equivalent as long the phone performs as it usually does which is reasonably impressive for such an old phone.
@@Brian-jv8iy yeah it's so weird because I also have α 6s and the 6s stays cool and the battery doesn't drain unless heavy use. Pretty weird if you ask me.
I am an iOS 16 ip8 user. I have never experienced any lags or problems. Im totally satisfied with the update. Even though iPhone 8 is released in 2017 and can still run smoothly in 2023 is great!
Since when do you have your phone? And how long does your battery lasts? I’m also an iPhone 8 user since November 2018 but it’s still running on iOS 12. And my Problem is that I’m scared to update to iOS 16, that it will get some problems overall or that the battery life wil dramatically change. Because my battery last long enough for my uni day without really charging it until I’m home. And i don’t have money for a new one phone😢.
So bad that they got rid of the 3D Touch, I still can't upgrade to newer models also for this reason, it was such a nice and futuristic feature (just like the so-hated Touch Bar)
@@Suave26 actually you talk about the haptic touch (touch and hold), I was talking about the pressure sensor underneath the display (introduced with the 6s and discontinued with the Xs) that made the same process much faster and intuitive... and also geek loveable ahahahah
@@ede.ma. aren’t they the exact same thing? The functions you use for haptic feedback did the exact same thing as 3D Touch. Only difference that I see that is difference from upgrading from a Xs Max is not being able to reply in messages during the Lock Screen while using this function.
@@Suave26 most of the time yes, sometimes you miss some functions, such as the "pick and pop" in safari, where you were able to see a preview by an initial pressure, and then open full screen the website through an higher pressure; or again the function to move the cursor by force pressing anywhere on the keyboard. These details were a lot "Apple Style" and stood out from the android crowd. On the homescreen the function "touch and hold" was only meant to edit the position of the app or to delete them ("Jiggle mode"), while the force touch was the only possible way to open the shortcuts menu. After iOS 13 (or 12, I can't remember) everything became mixed and a little bit more confusing, but I understand that all of these details are minimal and 90% of the users is not missing it.
I personally am glad that 3D Touch is gone. For me it always felt weird and actually uncomfortable to press harder against a solid piece of (thin) glass. And with Haptic Touch the experience when switching between iPhone and iPad is now the same which feels "better" too.
I updated it to the official version of ios 16 (16.1.2) and It's not lagging anymore and there is no delays. Phone is not heating up anymore and the battery (at least for me) is better on ios 16 than ios 15
I'm getting this as my dedicated audio device for streaming music. Bought one with new battery and 256 gb of storage. The only app I will install into it is Spotify. I love listening to music with no distractions and notifications just like the old days of the iPod classic.
@Иван Янков iOS uses as much as it has available dude. iOS is not using 1.7GB in general... on my 13 Pro with 6GB it constantly uses at least 60% of RAM, so over 3GB all the time. On devices with less RAM, the system will also use less RAM. The systems these days handle that intelligently.
would you prefer the white bezel returning? I still say that gold color was one of the most beautiful colors they made and would get me to switch from my 12 if it ever makes a return
I can’t guarantee anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it got iOS 17. It’s basically a 7s but with a considerably more powerful chip. And if history is anything to go by, the ‘s’ phones usually got an extra year longer support compared to their predecessors.
@@abhijeet1471 it probably wont get iOS 17. With iOS 16 Apple already didnt include most of the new features for the iphone 8 and X. That's a hint these phones wont get the next iOS version
The fact that it is the oldest iphone running ios 16 makes it a worse deal than it was, 2 months before i was thinking about buying this or the se 2020,now the se 2020 is a far better buy
Get the iPhone se 2020 i have it and it’s a great iPhone 📱 I had it for two years now got it on May 28th 2020 the battery health is at 86% still last all day 🙂
so much thanks to you nick Ackerman I'm one of your best fan I do watch your Videos of phone comparison I love each and every words of your explanation on phone specifications, now I want to get a full review and explanation of the iPhone 8 in 2023 wether it still word it,or which one is better between the iPhone 7and the iPhone 8 please I need I a video on this case, make you be well and peace.
crazy thing happened to me. i got a used iPhone 6 about 2 years after it launched. used it up to recently, and it did act a but funny but I just shrugged it off to being old. one day I took it to the repair shop cuz it was hissing when I tried to charge it and it wouldn't turn on, now I never left the house with this, this was a phone I used as a household secondary for alarms and stuff. the guy at the shop opened it up and showed me the amount of corrosion and water damage. the phone was working fine the day before. he said it looked like it been there for years! and the seller did say SLIGHTLY damaged.
I was scared about the battery thing that's why I haven't upgraded it yet , so looking for reviews for ios16 update battery thing. Should I really update it to 16? Asking this cz I wanna see what and how GarageBand is !
Well it’s quite unfortunate for iPhone 7 users which got discontinued with ios 16. I think iPhone 6s should be the only one to get rid of 16 but why they considered both 6s and 7. There should not be two, but only one should have got rid of iOS 16 and that’s only iPhone 6s. Feeling bad for iPhone 7 users. Im 100% sure that iPhone 7 could have easily managed to run ios 16. If we count iPhone 6s , which was released in 2015 got 6 years of update Whereas iPhone 7, which got released in 2016 got 5 years of update. So yeah 7 users might feel injustice.
@@gtj094 it wouldn’t be laggy, it has the A10 chip. They are giving iOS 16 out to other devices with the A10 that have worse benchmark scores. They also are giving out iOS 16 to devices with the older A9 chip.
The i8 have 2Gb of ram the 8+ and X 3gb of ram i think if apple update the 8+ and X they will have some problems with 8 users 😅 Like why the news update is only for the + version... So i think they will just stop updating the X The 8+ (even if their compatible) due to the Iphone 8 an other reason .. 50% of ios 15/16 features are not available to the A11 phones because A11 do not have enough ML core :/ i don't think they will want to update a phone like that
Hey nick, I downloaded iOS 16 beta profile on my iPhone 8 and it is working fine, performance is the same though I am not feeling my iPhone getting warm from back as I was playing cod and using insta and Snapchat
@@ajvlawgz coz ios 16 will come out in September right now u can download ios 16 beta profile which is not stable so wait for the stable one in September
I swear if i launch a business one day i would only hire people who daily use an pricely iphone without any case. That's solid confidence as i can keep one alive more than a month without a triple layer protection 😆
Now I think we can all see why the iPhone 7 can't run iOS 16. I hate to see such a great phone slowing down and I hope they optimize it for the official release, but it makes sense after so many years. Samsung phones from 2017 were left in the dust years ago.
The battery drop on the phone with iOS 16 looks HORRIBLE right now. :O It was going down 1% like every 20 or 30 seconds, it looked like, from the video. Maybe the video isn't depicting accurate battery drop, but wow.. I'm sure it will improve over time. I notice it a bit with my 12 Pro that recently had the battery replaced, but I'm looking forward to having the much more stable and optimized version that will be coming later, but in the meantime I'll enjoy the ride through the betas.
every new update slows down the phone so it is best not to upgrade or do any update because many people complain after the update that their camera stops working or something else is simply not desirable or necessary to do an update be sure to turn off automatic software update if you ask me my advice is not to update
I think the problem is the RAM, this thing just have 2GB of RAM. My 2nd generation iPad Pro with older chipset but 4GB feels quite alright and performance is not night and day compared to my m1 iPad. I wonder how 1st generation iPad Pro 9.7 with 2GB of RAM runs iPad OS 16, must be painfully slow.
That's just not how RAM works... The iPad Pro 2nd Gen has the A10X which was in general a super powerful chip that - especially in terms of GPU power - even beats the A13. Let alone the A11. And don't forget that this is the very first beta here. Even the iPhone 13 Pro models don't run that well with iOS16 currently.
I’m surprised how well iOS 16 runs on that little iPhone 8. I’m sure it drains the battery, so it’s probably better on the 8 Plus. I’m guessing this will be the last year for iPhone 8 and X.
i think that the 8 (and X) lineup will last at least another update (but probably will end with iOS 18 as the last one) because of the SoC: A11 Bionic was so advanced for the 2017 that has hands down well aged
