Iron Edison Solar Batteries (Installation and Maintenance)

We purchased a set of Nickel Iron batteries from a company called Iron Edison, which is based in Denver. We shipped the batteries with the rest of our belongings to Petersburg, had them delivered to the Island, then replaced the existing lead acid batteries with the new Nickel Iron batteries. The only maintenance is watering the batteries about once a month or so.

The best possible controller for them is the midnight solar classic 250. It has the right algorithm and handles all temp and moisture and arc variations, and puts out 63A

Have you ever tried a Victron BlueSolar mppt? I bought 8 of them for my solar array project (1 per panel) it can be manually programmed via a USB dongle. Just wanted to know your thoughts. I looked at the Midnight solar classic 250, the specs look great, but their prices are quite high

I am just astounded by all this technical knowledge. Is this what you did on your days off back in Colorado. Amazing how you know all this stuff! Most people have to study this thing at college...how did you manage to learn all this? wow.

Everything for us was learning on the fly. We grew intimately familiar with several user manuals laying around the house. We did get some tips from some of the locals, who have since become very good friends of ours.

Iron Edison finally started selling these dry today (Jan/2023)..so you aren't paying to move a ton of water anymore. Your entire setup is about $2k now and ships with a dry powder that you mix and distribute to the cells on-site.

We have a 48 volt system, with 40 batteries. Each battery is 1.2 volts and 300 amp hours. Thanks for watching!

Oh well, it's 2023 and Iron Edison is gone but not forgotten, now you'll just have to buy them straight from China - at half the price!

We are looking into buying another set from China. Exact same batteries, cost including shipping to Alaska is less than half the original price we paid I wish we would have done a little more research before we bought our batteries, we would have saved quite a bit of money. Thanks for watching!

Sorry for the late response. The entire system cost about $15,000. Unfortunately, I believe the company just went out of business.

Are you using distilled water ?

Yes, we have a water distillation system, which we purchased from the same company as the batteries (Iron Edison). I think we may have mentioned it in the video, but we really should have spent more time talking about it.
