You are wrong about why the Warriors value is going down. It is going down because they aren't great anymore, not because of the spending. The Warriors have been able to make close to 300 million more in revenue each year over other NBA teams because they were so good. Being a champion is very valuable, being a dynasty much more so. That's where the money is.

A few more things to note about the cap and tax. You keep talking about the Celtics, you neglect that most NBA teams are in a very similar situation. The T-Wolves that everyone talks about as the next great team are in almost the exact same cap situation as the Celtics. So I guess they are doomed right? Here are some more general notes about the NBA teams starting in 25/26 season related to the salary cap and luxury tax. Info comes from spotrac. This is the situation NBA teams will be in if they basically just keep the same roster and set contracts they have today. This doesn't even include the fact that some teams right now have incomplete rosters with only 8 or 9 guys since free agency is still going on. So these numbers will only go higher from here. If the 30 NBA teams try to keep their current roster/contracts in the 25/26 season then the following will be true: - 28 teams will be over the salary cap - 22 teams will be over the luxury tax - 15 teams will be at least 20 million over the luxury tax incurring a tax of either 45 million or 65 million for repeaters The only way NBA teams will be able to get below these numbers will be by renouncing high paid players. But then they will need to sign new players to replace them and this doesn't yet count the numbers for the players these teams still need to sign during the current free agency period. So basically all NBA teams are in the same boat. What will these teams do? Will they decimate their rosters and sign NBA minimum contracts? Will most of them stay over the luxury tax? If many don't stay over the tax then a lot of players may have a hard time getting contracts like they used to. Will the bottom part of rosters become very cheap? If they do stay over the tax then maybe that just tells us all the extra money is so great they can afford to. I can see fans all around the league saying the 1st or 2nd apron may be their teams hard cap. And what exactly will the NBA do with all this tax money if most all teams are paying into it? I guess we'll find out next year how teams will handle this, but this isn't just a Celtics issue by any stretch.

When Belichick and Brady were winning SBs, the Patriots weren't spending money either. Hasn't just been the last 5 years.

Facts the Kraft family have been very frugal since owning this team, its border line embarrassing considering how much hes worth

But it shouldn't be of any surprise considering he's good friends with Jerry Jones and his motto is the same

I wonder how many SB they could have won if they spent more money.

I don’t blame the Celtics ownership at all. I think it’s good business. I hate to see them go, but I would do the exact same thing if I was them. The team value will never be higher. I think they learned how sour things can get when Brady left the pats and mookie left the Sox. Sell now while Tatum and brown r going into their prime. The Celtics r gonna be contenders for at least the next 6 years. Maybe 8.

All the media types are saying the new owner needs 5-6 billion to buy the team. I'm willing to bet most of them weren't exactly mathematics geniuses. I certainly am not. Say the Groesbeck's own 20% of the Celtics (who knows the exact number?). Pagliuca (who recently bought out an investors 8%) must own a significant amount if he is the co-owner and maybe the other minority owners own an average of 4-8% each. The Celtics value goes to 6 Billion dollars. The newly titled investment group needs an additional 1.2 Billion to buy Irv & Wyc 20% of team. I'm only doing simple math here and I have no idea what the actual ownership percentage is

IT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS TO SAY THEY MAY BE OPERATING AT A LOSS - MY GOD, THESE GUYS KNOW NOTHING! Sad that most of the Boston media knows so little about money for the NBA teams. Yes there is a luxury tax, but the NBA revenues are going through the roof right now. The new tv contract is bringing in an extra 50 billion over the next 11 years. The Celtics will be getting a huge increase in their yearly tv money, prob around 75 million. The NBA is going to add 2 new teams and the expected payment to each team from the expansion teams will be 300 million. All NBA teams have been able to raise a lot of new money thru corporate sponsorships and other things in recent years. The Celtics had already raised it by 82 million from 21/22 to 22/23 season alone. They probably raised it again in 23/24 and will probably continue. The Warriors had raised theirs by several hundred million a year. The new revenues are greater than the luxury tax. And keep in mind, the salary cap will be going up by 10% every single year and the luxury tax is always 21.5% higher than the salary cap. So the cap will be getting closer to the Celts payroll every year that goes by. The Celts will probably be hit for a tax of around 65 million in some years and maybe as high as 120 million in a couple of others. That's assuming they keep the starting 5 together for the next 4 years along with some bench players. They will probably maintain a lot of small contracts on the bench with probably a couple of higher ones. So NBA minimum vets and young players. If Porzingas can't go 4 years then they can move money elsewhere. The toughest part will be handling the bench, but you can see them starting by drafting older players in the draft and all the small contracts they are signing for the bench. With Wyc controlling operations until 2028, it seems they are saying they want a championship run until 2028 at least. After that, the new owners can do what they want. They could still continue with Brown, Tatum and White at that point and surround with new players.

Operating at a loss? Are you two bozos high? They wouldn’t make a CBA that has teams operating at a loss.
